  1. Looks sharp. I was just eyeballing the HMM Shadow Fox over on AmiAmi. That is a badass looking Zoid.
  2. I'm thinking it'll be another Aeon Flux. Or just another generic cop movie where the protagonist just happens to be a cyborg, that being the token factor tying it to GITS. They'll divorce themselves of all manga, movies, and tv shows to preserve "creative vision", Westernize it entirely, change the think tanks into spindly Bayesque looking bipedal mechs, and pretty much make a movie that is Ghost in the Shell in name only. My prediction, but I hope I'm wrong.
  3. I'm thinking the same; it's a high grade Zoid with improved movement, light, and sound effects. It's cool, but I don't see the poseability, and if it is posable, one wonders why they wouldn't demonstrate that in the video, as that'd be THE feature to set it apart from previous versions. I don't see why it couldn't be done, though; design it so that 2-position retractable pins in the legs snap into the rotating cams for walking. If the leg and hip joints are ratcheted, or have good detents for walking position, then all you'd have to do is pull the pins and get to posing. That's how I'd do it, anyway. Honestly, the only refinement I see is with the coloring of all the details on the master grade. However, I'd imagine parts fit and detail in hand is noticeably better than the old kits. Did you have to paint the wolf, or did everything come pre-colored?
  4. ooh...back to Google. Just spent the last 30 min or so looking at all the different Zoids. I wish I'd seen the Deathpion in the store; the sleek clean industrial look and white armor just looks cool...plus it's a motorized scorpion. Mechanical insects have enthralled me ever since my days as a wee lad of about 4 watching G-Force. Looking through all the pics, though, really made me appreciate the amount of creativity that went into these things...little works of art that you put together. Japanese ingenuity makes this a better world. I thought I'd share this: Not a Zoid exactly, but inspired by them: http://makezine.com/magazine/going-big-with-legos/ I got to see this in person, and it is an impressive model. While breaking it down for shipment, Brian handed me one of the legs, which is as big as my arm. He also has some impressive Gundam models, a MechaGodzilla, and a fully transformable Dangard Ace that stands about 4' tall, all entirely from LEGO.
  5. Just bought a Blade Liger and the SD Iron Kong on HLJ. The older Zoids were motorized, but I was wondering if the new kits are. I was under the impression that they are just highly articulated figures now. I have a number of Zoids that I bought during the early to mid 2000s when the cartoon and kits were pretty popular. Fantastic toyline. Wish it'd make a comeback with all new designs.
  6. Same here; if Arcadia produces a new, more balanced YF-21 on par with their YF-19, then I'll plunk down my $300 without a second thought. As for the discussion above, I've never seen M7, but the premise of a teen rock band flying shiny gregarious valks with their instruments battling with music in space (how does that work?) doesn't really grab me. Macross Plus had a well written and time relevant story, as the competition between the YF-22 and YF-23 to be the USAF's superiority fighter had just been happening a few years prior. They chose the wrong jet, but that's OT. Anyway, with its military angle and unusual love triangle, Plus resonates, and Kawamori's YF-19 and YF-21 were both beautiful designs. I don't think his M7 upgrades to those original designs really added much, and I still prefer the YF over the VF versions. Given a choice between buying M7 or Plus versions, I'll always buy M+.
  7. Got my prep notice yesterday. As much as I still love my old Yamato Monster, the engineering and accuracy of Bandai's is so much better. Can't wait to have it in hand.
  8. Well, Arcadia has a monopoly on pretty much everything Macross prior to Frontier, and Bandai monopolizes Frontier toys. They can set the prices wherever they want, since they're the only producers of high grade collectible toys for their respective brands. I'm glad they're priced as low as they are, even though $300 per unit is still pretty steep for a toy. They just need to make the Variable Glaug, maybe a VF-14, and a VF-3000 at current asking prices and then charge whatever they want after that. I'll consider my Macross collecting days about over, unless Bandai cranks out something cool from the next Macross series.
  9. HLJ has a sale going, so I thought I'd pick up a few items. I've always liked the Zeta Gundam MSA-005 Methuss, so I got one of those, a Blade Liger, and the SD Iron Kong. Got 'em all in Warehouse waiting for the Methuss (backordered). That Blade Liger looks amazing...I was gonna pass, but I guess it's pretty limited, so I just said 'f' it. Life's too short, and I already have a long list of 'didn't get it when I should have' regrets.
  10. Pretty good stop motion. This was enjoyably watchable; Michael Bay's films, not so much.
  11. Mine's already paid for, and I haven't received any word from NY one way or the other, so I hope my order stays open and ships. I am excited for this release.
  12. Brad Bird, futuristic buildings and vehicles, mecha...worth a look.
  13. Well, the line-art didn't really give them alot to work with deco-wise. It's stark, admittedly, but on the Frontier valks, they make up for it in spades, esp the VF-171 Plus. I don't think it'd be as bare if Yamato had tampoed tail numbers, no steps, and various other general aircraft markings. Applying decals sucks. But, yeah, there's plenty of potential for various schemes if they ever decide to haul it out of mothballs.
  14. Fearing I'd miss out, I preordered one from two different places. I missed the cancellation window on one, and so now I have two in my collection: one to display, and one to keep pristine. It's one of my favorite valks, and was a long time coming, so I'm very thankful that Yamato made it, and that I was able to get it. It'd be great if Arcadia did a rerelease, if only another limited made to order release to give those who want one another chance to score, and to give Arcadia the faith in its fans/consumers that certain items are worth rereleasing. This is certainly a mold that could be milked through various paint schemes. I'm not sure if the battroid was an afterthought as someone mentioned, but I personally love it. My only complaint about Yamato's is the fixed shoulders, which is a fault with Kawamori's design rather than Yamato's figure. It's fighter mode is beautiful, and ties with the YF-19 as my favorite.
  15. This. Follow the Arcadia model, make 'em web exclusive, and produce toys based on preorders, with a few extras. With a popular valk like this, the'y're going to exceed predictions, esp when there are folks who buy multiples. Of all the valks, the VF-1 and the Y/VF-19 are pretty sure bets for high demand. With their current market strategy, Bandai's hurting their own bottom line by under producing; they're not the ones that will be making the crazy money off these in aftermarket, so why not produce more in the current market when their item is a hot commodity and reap the financial benefits rather than let online retailers make stupid profits from their product?
  16. I was hoping they'd find a way to collapse them to cover that gap at the rear of the tank, rather than just toss them on top, like a London double-decker tank. The barrel extension looks odd, too. I'm thinking the add-ons are great for bot mode, but need to mass shift back into their box when rolling for doom. Cute little Galvy there.
  17. Asaaj Ventress...once freed from being just another two dimensional bad guy, she became one of the most interesting characters in the entire series. Towards the end of the series, my interest was always piqued when she showed up in an episode...just the whole 'what is she going to do?' factor. She's too good a character to abandon, and I think she'll show up in Rebels at some point, perhaps as a Rebel herself.
  18. I'm thinking they used magnets and a series of gyroscopes, akin to how the Segway operates. I figured this was CG; I'm glad to be wrong, and I'm glad that craftmanship and technology like this are still used in the movies. I could see this being used in practical situations...searching for survivors in tight quarters, radiation detection, etc. Concerning Battlefront, I think there may have been a few gameplay scenes, but yeah, I got the sense it was mostly cutscenes. Looks like a movie instead of a game; hopefully they can replicate that in the gameplay.
  19. Those wing packs look great in jet mode, but look like kibble overload in battroid. To me anyway. If I ever manage to order one, I'll probably leave them off, since all my valks are displayed in battroid. Love the tampo/ I wish Arcadia would follow suit.
  20. Prob around $3000, give or take. Just a drop in the bucket compared to what I've spent on LEGO. Or Transformers.
  21. Beautiful. Now you just need to feed the data into a 3d printer. Seeing the early renderings reminded me of Zoids for some reason, which made me think, how awesome would it be if Tak-Tomy got a limited Macross license to produce a motorized Zoid-ish version of the Monster. If it wasn't astronomically priced, I'd be down for one.
  22. I still have one, but mine's molded in dark blue. Mine only had the VF-1 stickers. I got it at the Dollar Store when I was a kid. At the time, I had no idea what Macross, or Robotech for that matter, was. Jetfire was my only reference to the VF-1.
