1. You know, I just ordered a HK DVD of this the other day, assumed the R2 must be out, but that's probably of the TV rip too. Can't wait to see it though.
2. Which is also on the disc with the David Niven version, this was mentioned earlier.
3. Again, no dub will "ever" be able to top a subtitled version simply because subtitled versions aren't 100% dependant on the subtitles or their translation, hell, it's barely 50% dependand on it. The rest of the experience when watching subtitled is hearing the performance & emotion of the original actor who played the part, regardless of whether you understand what they're saying or not, you can feel what they're putting into it, the way the director intended them to put it in. Back to the Mari thing though, it's very cool that she's finally sat & watched the whole show (hopefully she'll watch the movie too), and this is bound to be interesting one way or another. I can't help but think ADV's true intnetion in bringing her in on the dub is the hope that rabid Japanese Macross fans will import the disc's just to hear Mari's new performance.
4. So what you're saying is that the many Bond's of Casino Royale were too "manly" for you!
5. Only James Bond movie I need is the original Casino Royal. -David Niven -Peter Sellers -Assorted cast of a sh!tload of other people.. Also has the side-effect of making the new bond every few years thing make sense. Booya!
6. You're the one being unreasonable. As I've said, the subtitle translation changes nothing of the original work, especially now that you can turn them off, which indeed makes it the same as watching it with no translation, i.e. nothing of the original is changed. With dubs, (while you can when lucky enough switch back to the original audio) the piece is indeed changes into something other than what it was created to be. A simple concept.
7. Bottom line, something that's good will outlast boatloads of crap. That's why it's important to maintain artistic integrity, not for the buck, not for the now, but for longevity far past the present. Dubs are ass, always have been, always will be. Subtitles change nothing, as I said, even if the translation is off, the original content of what's there still exists in the original language.
8. The company that produced it went under a year or so ago, so none of their original stock is currently available. Though they have popped up under a new name, and supposedly will re-release all of their popular titles, none have been announced as of yet. To add more strangeness, some of their titles that are currently around have popped up as DVD-R's with printed picture disc labels....
9. Considering Macross 7 has been in near constant HK rotation since the R2 DVD's were available for copying (I've counted at least 4 different variations from 3 different HK distributers), and only as of this year has started to dissapear from U.S. HK retailer inventory, I think it's safe to say it's been a pretty popular set. Zero in turn has had a much shorter HK shelf life.
10. God damnit, now I have to pick this up just to catch the extra's with Mari. Damn you ADV, damn you to hell!! With that said... Subtitles don't change anything at all. Whether they're a perfect translation, or completely off base, they don't change any of the original content whatsoever. Especially in our new day & age of removable subtitles on DVD's. Dubs no matter how accurate or off still completely replace the original audio track, leaving the piece forever changed. All things considered, I am curious to see how Minmay treats this new performance of Minmay, will she listen to her old performance & try to mimic it? Will she go for something entirely new? Hell, that's the only reason why I'm even remotely considering switching to the dub track to check it out.
11. If you have the movie version, then it's there, when Isamu makes the fold to Earth, after the Earth sat. system boots up. If you've got the OVA, then get the second disc, it has the last two episodes, it's on episode 4, same spot as the movie.
12. Wait, you don't want that hologram card? With a little tape (on the back) it makes an awesome lid for the box.
13. What I'm saying has nothing to do with elitism, just leave it the f^ck alone-ism. If everyone in the world loved Macross, then great. If they don't, then great. But if someone is going to watch it, it should be on its own merrit, subtitled, not dubbed.
14. NO! the only true way to bring peace is THIS
15. Actually yes, just picked up Panda-Z & Vol 1 + Box of Godannar, didn't notice anything 23 years old though.
16. Psst, it's ADV, not Bandai
17. Yeah, I was hoping for smething...more...with last order, but it's still cool for what it is.
18. Nope, there are official numbers on how many Valkyries the Macross carried.
19. The mainstream market isn't going to buy Macross with a dub, they aren't going to give a sh!t since it's a 23 year old show with archaic animation (ranging between awesome & terrible for its time). That very same mass market who loves dubs also hates old animation, check and mate!
20. Well, when I do that, I get 4. When you do it, you get 268.2 and then assert boldy that it's really the only reasonable conclusion. 338250 No, I just pay attention, instead of bitching whenver something happens that I don't like. Don't hate the playa', hate the game!
21. Because they realized too far into production "oh poo, we don't have any story" and panicked, and went with the most easily accessable route, which is cheap fanfiction!
22. Usually I use my Awesomeness as justification for making many bold statements, but I don't need to here as my education is in Marketing, I will tell you, NOTHING just finds its market. The brand name "Macross" has a value and a product attached to it in the US. None of it shows through in M7. 338220 And one of these days you'll have to use that marketting degree to research the fact that just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it wasn't (and can't continue to be) successful. 7 was hugely popular in Japan, was a mass marketting success etc. And if people will continue to buy robotech over here, they'll sure as hell buy 7.
23. In most of those cases, it was for music licensed to use in the show by big name bands, and no licensing being done at the time to ensure continual use for release in formats such as DVD. In the case of 7 we have music specifically made for it, there's no problem with the band involved, it's just Victor Ent being stingy.
24. That's where Shadow Force comes into play. If they really did sink so much money in that it's sink or swim, then HG will soon be a non-issue.
25. His evidence is that if the other guy had watched any substancial amount of Gundam, he'd realise how inane what he was saying was.
