  1. BTW, should we still be using spoiler tags?
  2. Despite how much I think this movie doesn't need a sequel, it could be interesting if done right. Like the comment above, there are lots of different and fascinating avenues to explore...
  3. This is MW; no topic is ever beaten to death! Part of the issue with the 1/2000 SDF-1 (IIRC) was manufacturing the large parts. That was a part (no pun intended) of the issue. I don't think that's the case here. Which means that hopefully there won't be a scale reduction, if they ever decide to make a toy version.
  4. It is my understanding that what happens in the "dream" is supposed to help the main character in the real world.
  5. Indeed, that was an interesting link. It may not be 100% analogous, but it does serve as a good reference point. Can Yamato get multiple parts from a single mold? Is this possible or common? Also, considering the valks feature diecast and rubber parts, how much might those cost, mold-wise? Would they be more or less expensive? I would also assume Yamato still makes a fairly sizable run of a given toy, but does anyone have any accurate production figures (no pun intended)? It's possible we're over-estimating the manufacturing costs. They may have went with the "cheap" manufacturing option. That could explain many of the QC error over the years... Either way, I'm still hoping Yamato repeats what they did with the SDF-1 (without changing the scale of course). My Matchbox Regult would stick out like a sore thumb next to my beautiful 1/60 v.2's.
  6. Well if you're still on the fence, the PS3 doesn't just play games; "It only does everything."
  7. And for those that aren't, region coding is optional with Blu-ray. And said restrictions are that common either I glad that we're getting a Macross game on the PS3. Finally a big screen and better controls. I hope this has full-fledged HD graphics and isn't one of those PlayStation Mini games.
  8. Looks like Robocop is canceled: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/17855/robocop-the-dude-in-forced-retirement
  9. Yeah, Biu Jee isn't exactly legal in most MMA fights. Seriously, how many truly capable _ing _un fighters do you know? Ones that train constantly and are in amazing shape. Ones that can apply their stuff under pressure and against a variety of opponents. Think of one off the top of your head (other than Bruce Lee). I'm not putting down _ing _un, or insisting these fighters don't exist; these WC/VT/WT/VC martial artists are just too few and far between to even say. Going down that road though, it would probably devolve into "my style is better than your style" anyway. Wait, now that I think about it, Bruce Lee did win a Boxing competition using Wing Chun. Does that count?
  10. Many times when they call in an appraiser, they tell them what it's worth right in front of the seller. If they sell it to the shop knowing that, I wouldn't call it being "swindled." Secondly, some items need to be restored or repaired before they sell it. That can add up how much the shop has to invest in it. Then they have to move it, store it, and find a buyer. This costs time--which to a store--means more money because of the employees. Some of the stuff they buy can't exactly be thrown in the back of a truck and put on display at the shop. Also, unless they sold the collection as a whole, the shop would've had to go through the entire Transformers collection sorting, pricing, and storing everything. Talk about a hassle--especially since they would've certainly had to do research on each item for a name and a value; as he had stated, they didn't know much about them. And last, but not least: their goal is to make a profit. People take stuff in there knowing that. It would be quite unreasonable for them to take $290 for an item valued at $300. Is all of the said hassle worth ten bucks? And that's if they can sell it. If they sellers don't like it, they don't have to sell to them. I think they low-balled the guy quite a bit for the Transformers too; however, I wouldn't call them swindlers because of it. If you factor in what I stated above, it's a bit more understandable, even if it isn't agreeable. Besides, most people (myself included) like to watch the show just to see what people bring in and how much it is worth. Who cares if someone gets swindled--it wasn't us trying to sell it.
  11. Looks like a sequel is already out. http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/17-361/Predators-Preserve-the-Game-Film-Sequel
  12. I can't believe they didn't have Cobb flying around on a magic bicycle. Doesn't he know that it's the solution to all dream-based threats... I'll join most of the people here in praising its awesomeness. Easily one of the best movies of the year.
  13. I read the Gibson script and it was so over the top, it just didn't feel like an Alien movie. I believe Alien 3 (the Special Edition version anyway) would've been the better choice. The biggest problem was that Alien 3 was a clusterf*ck in both pre-production and production. Hell, I think they may have still been writing the script as they shot it--and I don't mean some last minute touch-ups either. Then, it make matters worse, they tried to make a sequel to a bad movie. Like anime52k8 said, they had to have Sigourney back in some way and this unnecessarily complicated the story. Plus, Jean-Pierre Jeunet was not a good fit for directing an Alien movie. Luckily more of the controversial stuff about Alien 3 will be on the Anthology. They edited a lot out of the documentary on the Quad and it'll be uncut here. I didn't think the Special Edition version of A3 was that bad though. It did fix a number of the films minor flaws. If only it did the same for the major ones...
  14. Yeah, the last Aliens DVD--while not eye-candy--was fairly accurate to the source. It's a dull and grainy film. In fact, James Cameron even mentioned it in the commentary. Don't get your hopes up too high about Aliens by expecting the picture quality to knock your socks off. I just hope they don't DNR and EE the crap out of it. Alien, on the other hand, was not only a dramatic improvement over the first DVD; it was one of the best looking DVDs I've seen. It had a stunning transfer with exceptional detail. Having seen the Director's Cut last year on film, I can attest to the transfer's fidelity as well. I can't wait to see what it looks like on Blu-ray.
  15. Hmm...Looks like I wasn't too far off. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=25762&view=findpost&p=861217 It has the Burke Cocoon scene! I'm also astonished that it seems to have all of the extra features from the Quad, the Legacy set, the Saga doc, and the Laserdiscs--plus new stuff. They better not screw up the transfers. I thought I heard Lowry was working on it, so who knows...
  16. If they did make one, it would be $700 and in kit form...
  17. Oh, okay. Well, I guess there's not much to discuss then. Should we start a pool or something for when it comes out...?
  18. There's at least a good chance that the Alien Quadrilogy will come out this year though. We know they are working on it, as stated by the producer. Plus a trailer for the European set was released. Amazon doesn't lie too often. Once again, DYRL? and M+ (and possibly even the TV series) will come out on Blu-ray sometime. They only thing we really don't know is the release date. Macross is still a lucrative property and they'll want to make more money off of it. Remastering something takes a lot of time and money, and they did this for the movie, TV series, M+, and M7. I seriously doubt they went to all of that trouble just to release new DVDs.
  19. The official website only mentioned the youtube channel, so it's probably an online series.
  20. I'm also joining the group as a fan of the second one. It stayed true to the spirit of the first one, while still adding to the mythos. And Kendou is very popular in Japan. The Yakuza guy knowing how to use the sword isn't that much of a stretch. Besides, it looked cool. The last I had heard, the Robocop reboot was having difficulty getting off the ground. I hope it never makes it out of development hell.
  21. Looks like it's airing this week. Sadly, I can't watch the youtube page from here in the states. Does anybody know of a good, reliable way around this? Furthermore, have any of the fansub groups mentioned if they'll be picking this up? EDIT: Forgot the link. http://www.youtube.com/IDAentertainment#p/u/0/CO9YxPxdKO8
  22. I didn't think the movie was that bad. I enjoyed it. It was certainly better than the AVP movies anyway. Sadly, (like the AVP movies) it had so many "homages" to the first one, it started to become annoying. The movie generally succeeded when it did something different. I think it should be a rule to NOT hire fans to do sequels. Instead of thinking outside of the box, many of them turn in to multi-million dollar fan-wanks. This crazed worship of the source material seems to stifle the creativity; and in doing so, it far too often looses what made the original great. The only time something like that has been an asset was in T4, but that was due to everything else sucking. I'm also still kind of shocked with how small Laurence Fishburne's part was in the movie. It was just a glorified cameo. Topher Grace's character talked about that one plant as if it existed on earth. Maybe some plants of Terran origin made it over there too. Royce and co. were eating something. If it was a soylent surprise, then they weren't aware of it. Or maybe he just stole dead soldiers' rations and MREs over the years...
  23. Maybe the reason Macross Zero on Blu-ray didn't sell as well is because...it's Macross Zero. It wasn't exactly the most popular of the franchise. There's also the fact that Macross Frontier wasn't available before that on any format, whereas M0 was. So, when someone goes to get MF for the first time, they have a choice between DVD or BD; many of them probably chose the Blu-ray version. Let's also not forget the price difference between one disc a month versus an expensive box set. If the set wasn't so outrageously priced, I'd have bought one already myself.
