So far this season has completely undone half of last seasons story's and character development, while virtually 'resetting' the show at the same time! The Bad: HGR is back to his normal tricks. ((WTF!)) Claire is still an immature whiny little batty. Mohinder has still yet to grow up and stop playing at being a crusader. Hiro has been completely FUBAR'ed as a viable character. Peter is a god. Sylar is an insane demi-god. Not milking the Parkman's Father/Company arc for all it's worth! Every 'Leader' of The Company suddenly getting a sense of morals.((oh freaking plz!)) The Good: Nathan grew up and stopped being a mommy's boy. Killing of Nikki. The "WTF!" & The "THANK GOD!": Killing off DL, seriously the only other remotely great character besides Nathan and stupidiest move in the show. The continuous "Oh we forgot that he/she could do this or had this...." story loopholes. Peter's "Irish" story arc.

The torrents and dl's are full of rips and fansubbed rips, and sometimes groups intentionally re-sub with the dvd release. The company's lose profit because you are not watching their commercials/sponsors which fund the anime's production (a well known concept that crosses national lines and has been around for over 50 years). Also all of the copyright issues aside you are also receiving stolen goods knowingly by downloading any non-official download. And stealing data is just as the same as stealing rip's or dvd's themselves. Your just using that as an argument, even though it's the typical entitlement "it was on the Internet, so it's free" line of BS. Place yourself in their position where you see your product being copied freely in another country and you know that you only made it for the money to begin with and had huge amounts of sponsoring to bring it to market locally (lose potential of profits due to smaller audience size). Or how about only giving away that product in your country for a limited time before selling it, yet having that copied 'free' product show up in another country that you only sell the product in!!

They've dealt with that little loophole in the DMCA (nasty little piece of work that is). That would ONLY apply if you got it over the airwaves, cable channel, satellite TV, and officially licensed distributors on the Internet. If it's not then it's definitely stealing regardless of how you frame your reasons.

Ah just buy the durn thing! Seriously though I attempted to look up the artist involved and could only find vague references on Google about some of the artists anime. Has anyone found any of that artists other works??? I really don't want to try 4Chan for this...

What I 'feel' or you 'feel' about it doesn't matter. The laws are quite clear, and NOTHING can stop a Japanese creator/copyright holder from suing your pants off with your nations law system. Flat out, when your computer is connected to the Internet you are connected to a multi-layered distribution system and when you download or upload ANY material that is not yours by creation it's considered theft. Sure some things like uploading screenshots from games, movies, and shows are very questionable. But uploading/downloading shows, games, movies, and scanned in images from manga, magazines, or books that can all be bought (unless specifically stated) can be considered theft. Which is EXACTLY what got NAPSTER into trouble as well as GOOGLE via YouTube more recently. Go to the Library and look up the laws. @Dante74, They are covered mate. Since the Bar has paid a fee to the local cable company (who in turn has paid a fee to the TV network, who in turn has paid for the ability to telecast the game to the franchise owners) and as long as they don't charge you directly for watching the game it's all good.

Ok after fully reading the article. I agree with it's writer. But to be honest the Anime/Manga markets will crash and burn before any fundamental change can/will take place. Every localization company in the world should bring pressure against the company's responsible for the problem and force them to fix their internal FUBAR. When They Cry would've been the hugh hit that the industry needed, but it'll never seen the US shores now.

HAHAHA!!! Remember the days when it was on cassette tape? And computers could be expanded with clunky hardware plug-ins? But all that aside burnable CD's have ended the control schemes that the company's had in place. However now the new control schemes are even more over reaching with the computer to be required to have a 'Net connection in order to either run it's OS or allow play with a new game. The most easy solution to their entire problem is to not make the playable media computer accessible! But their greed will never let them do so. @Fort Max, They can do it easily by televising translated and dubbed anime the same day and time slot in BOTH nations. America via website distribution. Then in America each viewer gets a digital ticket (kinda of a permanent cookie) and if that ticket turns up in distribution then they are screwed! In Japan since TV is localized then they just encode a number into the anime show for each station and then backtrack it to the uploader. Now sure it would be easy to take both out, but you've already removed the interest because fan subs are immediately bypassed!

Illegal distribution laws have been in effect for decades and are fairly clean cut and are also quite often shown on the shows credits stating blatantly "NO distribution or re-distribution.". You also often get 2-3 of these warnings per bought movie or tv show and 1-2 times per showing on telecast. The fact that you say that there actually IS a 'fine line' means that you're going out of your way to explain away any responsibility for your actions. It's exactly that type of attitude that the current 'Ethicless' fan-subbers/translators have. "Business greed is baaaad! But personal greed is perfectly acceptable!!" Duke, I'm pretty much the same way. But I don't download an entire series and then decide that I don't like it! If it doesn't knock my socks off in the first episode then I don't bother with it anymore.

Like you quoted I wouldn't worry about it too much because if you did then you'd start to realize that Humanity is mostly subsumed into the Zentraedi by the time M:F comes around.

I stopped reading after this sentence because it's a flat out total lie, which frames the rest of the article in such a bias light that it must be disregarded on the whole. One of THE main reasons that anime is dying in America is the simple "grow, grow, grow" ideal that capitalism has embraced and the natural sales limit that anime has always had. And the OTHER main reason is that localization company's, Japanese distribution copyright holders, and creators have not actively pursued the emerged Internet Fan Subber/Translator as nearly as actively as they could've. It's quite "the pit of self pity". Soooo to all the people who are complaining about loses... "GOOGLE DO YOU USE IT, desu?"
