  1. Thanks for the thorough explanation. I never knew there were two sets of Fast Packs for the VF-4 Siren. From the games' text, it's good to see that quite a bit of thought was put into the Siren, even though we rarely got to see detailed pictures of it. In my dream world, Macross Chronicles would feature an entire section dedicated to PC-Engine lineart and text.
  2. I'm amazed to learn that Kawamori himself named it "Siren," I was always under the assumption that the ELS staff came up with that name. In TIA Flashback 2012, is the VF-4 referred to as the "Siren" or "Lightning?" I wouldn't be surprised if the ELS staff used those pieces of lineart as a reference. But they definitely did not use Kawamori's rough Fast Pack design when adding Fast Packs to their VF-4. The Fast Packs the VF-4 Siren used in ELS looked questionable. Can you explain how the VF-4A/S/SP/ST are different? For some odd reason, I'm incredible fascinated with the PC-Engine games.
  3. Normally I'd cry blasphemy, but as someone else pointed out, the 1/55 toys have been in near-constant production for the past 26 years whether by Takatoku, Bandai, Hasbro, official reissues, and a plethora of bootlegs with varying quality. There will never be a shortage of "classic" heads for the 1/55, therefore I can wholeheartedly welcome these new designs. On another note, I'm very pleased to see Toynami importing more and more proven Japanese toys. This is more efficient than designing (and sometime copying) their own products from the ground up. Their pride must've taken quite a hit when they decided to shelve their trumpeted MPC VF-1 in favor of its 26 year old predecessor, but this is a decision that's going to payoff for them and all Macross/Robotech fans.
  4. And maybe if we stop buying exclusive releases (ie: weathered Roy 1S), then they'll stop doing this sort of stuff.
  5. I also used to think that what we've got is as good as it's going to get. But on the Bonus disc, Bandai's got remastered intros/closings for SDF and the pilot. It looks incredible and blows away all other SDF intros/closings to date. I'm guessing that this is just a teaser for whatever Bandai's got coming down the pipeline. Compare the CF Valkyries in the background of these screenshots.
  6. There are other categories that are also hopelessly outdated, like the Video section. I believe the main site is manually coded in HTML, making it a pain in the arse to update. And even after it's been updated, it will still look like crap due to the limitations of HTML. Combine that with the fact that no one is being paid to work here and you've got your explanation.
  7. I can see where those Amazon reviews are coming from. If Bandai packed this boxset with more extras and better video quality, the price would not be an issue. Unfortunately, it's got a hefty pricetag and not too much to offer. One, last double-dip before they unleash the Blu-ray box.
  8. The book is alright. It's got interviews in kanji and the same recycled lineart that's been shown in every other Macross artbook. The only good thing about the booklet is that it has a comprehensive gallery of Macross merchandise offered throughout the years. As for the DVD extras, it's nothing to get too excited about. See my post above. I'd recommend putting your money towards the inevitable Blu-ray release. The remastered intros show that Bandai can clean up the visuals to near HD quality, but they neglected to with the actual episodes in this box set. Personally, I think they're going to save this process for the inevitable Blu-ray release.
  9. The special effects and costumes look great! But that's the easy part.
  10. Thanks, that's all I needed to hear.
  11. Where did you hear that rumor from? It sounds like a load of BS to me.
  12. That's just immature. The PS3 version will probably have better audio than the 360 version, and it's possible that the 360 version could span multiple discs whereas the PS3 version will fit on a single BD disc. I suppose graphic wh0res are worried that the graphics will be knee-capped by the 360, but if Konami was able to run the MGS4 demo on 360 hardware, I wouldn't be too concerned.
  13. Already being discussed here. http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=625840
  14. And here's Japan's reaction to FFXIII on the 360: ***YAWN***
  15. I guess we'll see when pictures are released. Whatever Yamato does, I don't think we have to worry about them going back to the old removable canopy/heatshield. Whew!
  16. No idea, I didn't have any off-brand xbox1 controllers to test out. When I first began playing 2D fighters on the xbox1, I also didn't think the d-pad was that good. But after a few weeks of playing I actually developed a lot of respect for it, in fact I now prefer it over the Playstation d-pad. I admit that it feels awkward, but it actually follow your commands accurately. edit: I forgot to mention, the wired 360 controller uses standard Phillips head screws, but the wireless ones use a special security torx screw. You can buy a dedicated screwdriver for it on ebay for about $3, or if you have the right size slotted driver you can bend/break off the security bit and proceed.
  17. That's actually pretty good, you should keep at it.
  18. If you compare the VF-1D battroid CAD drawing with the VF-1S' battroid CAD drawing you'll notice that the indent in the chest plate is a little deeper, indicating that the canopy will be a little bit longer too.
  19. For $12, you can make your own. Buy a used official S-type Xbox1 controller, take it apart with a screwdriver, remove the d-pad and replace the 360's d-pad with it. It fits perfectly. Before, I could hardly do a Flash Kick with guile in SF2, but now I can do complex combos with ease.
  20. Awesome, thanks for the speedy translation! Mr. March, in light of everything that's transpired, would you consider using superscripted footnotes in the future? I know that your site explicitly states that it is a fansite, but it would still be immensely helpful to future readers.
  21. Seto Kaiba, thanks for stepping up to the plate and putting this issue to rest. Also, I think you're right about Macross II occurring in 2092. The linear notes for vol.2 of the Macross II OST refers to that year, but I don't know what exactly it's saying since I can't read kanji. If you or Mr. March can provide a translation, I'd be more than willing to scan that page.
  22. The Macross Chronicles is not published by Yamato.
  23. Yes, Macross Digital Mission VF-X had a tunnel finale. Think of a rail-shooter in 3rd person, though it was impossible for your character to crash or take any damage. In fact, you didn't even have to shoot any of the enemies. It was pretty disappointing overall.
  24. Interesting that Yamato created an accurate TV 1A head for Max, I have to give them credit for finally taking the plunge. But this makes me wonder if Max's 1A will see an expanded release later on, I don't see why Yamato would spend money creating an entirely new head mold just for a limited release. Hopefully this exclusive will eventually see a regular release, just like the old 1/60 cannon fodder. According to Yamato: yes. But not according to the lineart.
  25. So much for the vaunted "skeletons," all you really get are a couple of bones. Fly4victory, kudos on your hip mod, it really makes the VF-11 shine!
