  1. Wow, that thing's design looks like it's straight out of a cheap 80's tranforming robot show (with the exception of the nifty head). Maybe it's just a bad view. Anyway, the problem with this style of transforming robot is that they seem forced into vehicle form (just look at Southern Cross) whereas robots from shows like Macross seem to be designed with both forms in mind.
  2. Space War 01 would be the perfect period for Isamu to be a pilot because of the fact that no matter how much he screwed around or endangered his fellow humans lives, the SDF-01's squadrons were so undermanned that they couldn't afford to discharge a pilot of his calibur.
  3. I always wondered why, during the training scenes from M0 episode 2, Focker kept on calling Shin 'Gomer Piles' and threatening to rip out his eyes and skullf@#& him. Shins helmet would also look ten times cooler with 'Born to Kill' written on it.
  4. Perhaps the artist should have considered giving the 0S a red and white stripe paint scheme and retitling the book 'Where's Wald-0S?'
  5. I would hate to be a pilot assigned to the Minmey guard. They would probably make fun of me and call me names like 'Pinky'...
  6. Even if they did, I doubt that the shows animators would have the time or budget to paint the marks in.
  7. its a cartoon not a tech drawing class. they probably did that so the pilot woudln't look all weird down in the crotch of the plane. anime MaGiC Yeah, crotch piloting in anime only just caught on with Z.O.E.
  8. Designing a bipedal mobile is not impossible if you do it right. A solid operating system would eliminate many of the potential problems since it would transfer simple pilot input into fluid movement and would be responsible for keeping the machine in balance and upright. Constructio is also feasible since we already are capable of fabricating the load bearing joints, hydralics and skeleton that would be needed in a patlabor style 1-story tall robot. Past that, its simply a matter of designing an effective control and sensor setup and slapping it on the skeleton, covering it all up with metal and Wallah! You have you're very own mobile suit! Patlabor is a great example of what our very first mobile suits will probably look like and it depicts them in many situations & environments. If you have not seen the movie, I would definately recommend that you do since it is a great depiction of what our lives should be like now.
  9. Is that supposed to be a cannon on the underside of the main missle launcher?
  10. With the material that Macross mecha are made from, and the speed at which the missle would clear the pad, I don't think that the heat would be the problem. The space shuttle can fairly easily handle comparable tempatures, except when there's a leak in the heat shield...
  11. I have yet to see a ICBM with a propeller, though it would be amusing. And on a similar note, why does a mech with a ICBM stapped to it's head have relatively short range weaponry for arms. If you're launching that nuke at what you're hitting with that artillary, you're going to have some problems, namely you getting incinerated. By the way, does this remind anyone of Metal Gear?
  12. These are all probably 100% correct. However, if a group not directly tied to the space force (such as the UNAF) does not have access to star vessels, do these forces have individual bureau's on different planets, or are they relegated to duty on earth? Also, come to think of it I remember some referance to the Space Marines using VA's (VA-14's to be exact), so I'm guessing that they perform a similar role to modern marines as well as older types, boarding ships and making landings from space and moving to a target on the ground, if that's any help.
  13. I was browsing through the MacComp glossary when I came across several entries concerning Various divisions of the UN military. They were the following: A. UNAF: the United Nations Air Force. B. UNN: the United Nations Navy C. UNS: the United Nations 'Space Navy' D. UNSAF: the United Nations Space Air Force E. UNSM: the United Nations Space Marines (F.): Curiously missing: UNA: United Nations Army I am a lowly newbie, not having even set my eyes upon M7 and other non-localized Macross series and OVA's (Though who could blame me, even HK bootlegs aren't cheap when they're of an entire series+OVA's) so some of these divisions might have very well had screen time and I would not have known of it. At any rate, does anyone know if these divisions (still) exist, and what they're ranks are composed of in terms of vehicles, mecha & vessels? Also what's with the UN Space Air Force?, are they in air, space or both, and why does the UN need both a UN 'Space Force' & A UN 'Space Air Force'?
  14. 'The Focker'... Is that like 'The Donald'? ...Sorry for that utterly useless & out of place comment. Couldn't resist. At any rate, the fact that the UN uses a fighter called the VF-2 in 2080 shows how off the official timeline MC2 is...
  15. I think that a big role of the SDF-01 is to defend both itself(as it contains the United Nations Command Center) and the rest of Macross city (the most important city in the UN worlds), since it is obviously still operational as evidenced in Macross plus and boasts upgraded weaponry & systems.
  16. My question is where can a new Macross series go? Macross has already covered several diverse plot ideas, and though it would be nice to have a new Macross series, I would not want it to be generic.
  17. Luckily, nostalgia allows past crazes(good or bad) to reemerge one or two decades later, sometimes in slightly different forms, so perhaps we're getting close to a point at which we will begin to see a new flow of Big Robot anime.
  18. I think a big that part of Gundams success is that it's concept is indeffinate enough to allow it to branch out into different universes, each with its own set of rules, history, and characters. Also, the nature of the protaginist & antagonist in Gundam allow them to return in later series and movies, especially the Zion in the Universal Centry timeline. I doubt in the future, we will see a series in which hyper customized, ethnically themed VF's have at it, though it would be cool (if not original)...
  19. No offense, but you could of looked at the MW homepage...
  20. Before I make a fool of myself using a bad example, does anyone know if the U.S. Air Force plans on replacing most or all of it's F-15 with the new F-22?
  21. It seems odd that the Zentradi want nukes since they already possess the more destructive mega particle beam cannons. Also, in one episode didn't earth forces try to hit Kamjins command ship with nukes which proved to be utterly ineffective? The only reason that the I see that the Zentradi would want nukes is to mount on smaller craft.
  22. First intro to Macross was Robotech=Bad! This will really screw you up for years. You need to see SDF Macross not I repeat not Robotech the Macross Saga. Yeah, seeing Robotech before Macross is pretty much all bad, but for most of us it's what happened anyway.
  23. I would have to agree that while it might not be the saddest death (or in this case, millions of deaths) in the series, the the incineration of earth's population in the TV series is definately the most shocking.
  24. Really? Wow, talk about an easter egg. However that only bolsters my point since that would mean that the saddest death in Macross would be that of it's creator. Very deep.
