  1. it's cuz hikaru was baking a really big cake for Minmay and he didn't want his valkyrie's hands to get burned so he put oven mits on.
  2. Well, the glittering caves is a pretty funny name... heh. But I would love to see Peter Jackson's take on the new steal and mithril gates of minith tirith.
  3. Yeah, Treebeard let Sauroman go, something about he didn't have the heart to cage him like that, Gandalf and the hobbits run into Sauroman Wyrmtongue on the road, Gandalf decides to let sauroman go, saying he is now harmless. Frodo and the hobbits then go to rivendale and stay with Bilbo until the weather starts to turn bad and then take off for the shire, they find that the shire has been over run by sauroman and turned into some sort of communist work camp. heh. Frodo kinda leads Sam, Merry and Pippen against Sauroman. They kick Sauroman out of the shire and offer amnesty to Grima, but Sauroman reveals that Grima had killed someone and Grima snaps and kills Sauroman. A few years later, Frodo, Bilbo Gandalf, Elrond Galadriel and company take off for Valinor. Sam goes years and years later as well as Legolas and Gimli after Aragorn finally died. The whole Shire bit is alluded to in the first movie when Frodo sees the Shire in flames in with Galadriel but Peter left it out of the pciture.
  4. Got my hikaru 1a when it first came out as well. Mine is happily stickered up with Takatoys custom stickers and gets transformed a few times a week. So far, no yellowing, no rubber leakage, backpack is intact, no stress marks, paint is still good, no cracked heatshield... I love my 1a! Thanks yamato!
  5. Actually, the Grey Havens are where they set off from, not the destination. The destination is called the Undying Lands or Valinor (it's easier to remember it as just the Undying Lands).
  6. 1. Sauron tied himself to the ring, that's how he survived after he was "killed" in the beginning of the frist movie. So when the ring was finally destroyed, the disembodied sauron also finally died. 2. Yeah, Frodo was too gravely hurt by his time with the ring and from the witch king's attack. In the book, Frodo lives in the shire for a while, but falls ill every year. Frodo, Bilbo and the elves don't go off to die, but go The Gray Havens... some sort of original land where the elves came from originally as well as gandalf, sauroman and sauron. Eventually Legolass and gimli and Sam go as well. 3. In the book, Sauron was using his power to fill his armies with a supernatural hatred and fortified them against fear. So when Sauron died, the orcs started to fear and it was Gandalf that caused the earthquake that swallowed the armies of Sauron.
  7. I got mine at Walmart in Southern California... it was with the replica cars though and not with the other transformers. I agree that the paint isn't as realistic as the Binaltech version, but for twenty bucks, it's worth every penny.

    My first 1/48

Hiriyu... I thought like you.. why buy a 1/48 when I can get a handfull of 1/60s for the same money... but I broke down and bought the hikaru 1/48 VF-1a when it first came out... and now I think, why should I get a 1/60 when that money can be saved for another 1/48..! I still like my 1/60... I only have now, the first one I got. I keep it for sentimental reasons only.
  9. Just pre-ordered mine from kevin at valkyrie-exchange.com for 108 after shipping... muahahahaha.
  10. Actually, while earthquakes are more common in California, there are active faults along the eastern states as well.. and something about the geography in that area, plus the brick buildings, makes those states much more at risk than california...
  11. Just got my VF-1s reissue from Kevin! Very happy, don't mind the non rubbery pilot but I don't like the easy to open front wheel covers all too much, I thought the original design was more flush with the underbelly. My only real complaint is that Fedex didn't get it to me yesterday!
  12. a VF-1j showed up dressed up in armour in the opening battle sequence in DYRL as well.
  13. Just a note on the wing zero, when it re-entered the atmosphere it was pretty banged up.. a valk can handle re-entry just fine.
  14. I always liked the VF-5000 valks... I wanna see some of those with their fast packs in a nice 1/48 scale.... That is, after I get my 1/48 VF-j... you listening to me santa?
  15. someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't the 1/48 line supposed to be a limited model/limited run sort of thing when it was first launched... so that there was only supposed to be the VF-1s and VF-1a hikaru and max type? and maybe maybe a VF-1j? And now we got the low viz, the TV type fast pack armour and the VF-1j? I think maybe we should give yamato the benefit of the doubt here. They seem to be coming out with new variants and if you all wait a few more months there is the new YF-19 coming out and who knows what else... just chill people. If you don't like it, don't get it, wait for what you want and if it doesn't come out, try writing a nice letter and not calling these people idiots or morons or whatever else. I for one am very happy with my Yamato toys... including those early Macross Plus toys.. so thanks Yamato.. without you guys I would be stuck with those ugly MPCs cuz there was noway I would spend a grand on a toy. On an ugly, anime inaccurate, twenty year old toy that had a habit of having nasty paint smears on the wings, having the little tabs holding the fast pack armour break, being pretty unposable, having no missiles, a gun you couldn't stow in fighter mode, no pilot what so ever and worst of all, people asking me, "hey, isn't that jetfire?"
  16. hey, spread the love man! I hate to see these babies languishing on the shelves. Seriously... where did you get one?
  17. I don't think it actually qualifies as a rip-off if it costs the same as all the other valks in the 1/48 line... even if it is "just a head swap" since you are getting the rest of the valk as well.... of course if it was being sold at a premium, then I could see how one would call it a rip off. As for me, I like it.. but I missed out on the languishing VF-1s roy version the first time around so I won't be getting hikaru's version for lack of money... but I'm not worrying because I'm sure it will languish around just like all the other 1/48s have.... yup. just like the sold out VF-1a, VF-1s and the low viz... yup, no worries.
  18. I just got a set last night and I haven't had any problems with them... they snap on nicely and I haven't had any problems taking them on or off...
  19. Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I agree, I think we should go back to the days of bandai valks, those things that vaguely resembled valkyries, had these niffty metal bars that stuck out, had paint on the wings that would smear if you opened and closed them a few times, a little hatch on the back that never fit quite right and would open if you did a barrel roll with the toy... had a back pack that would flop around, sloppy hinge joints for the tail fins that was prone to breaking, a gun you couldn't stow in fighter mode, a cockpit you couldn't open without a screw driver and even then you could only fit in one of those little gold men from ZOIDS, heads that didn't sit correctly in fighter mode, arms you couldn't deploy in gerwalk mode without swinging the legs out completely on the afore-mentioned metal bars... oh yeah and for the niffty price of a GRAND on ebay. yeah, those were the days, with the quality products from the big B. And why don't we talk about the great Macross 7 valks while we're at it...
