Forgive me if this was mentioned before, but did you guys hear? As of 7-7, the F-35 is apparently the Lightning II.

I almost wish the fan clip were real, now. Have you guys seen the leaked photo of Prime in truck mode?

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX

Um, IGLOO? Speaking of, on the one hand, I'm glad that someone like GG is taking the time to fansub IGLOO. On the other hand, their stubborn insistance on using newer codecs packaged in mkv containers plus their unbridled hatred of VLC have become rather irritating. After spending hours trying to pick their releases apart to make a nice DVD, I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather have hard-subbed AVIs any day.- 3815 replies

I went in expected more of what we got in Curse of the Black Pearl, and yeah, that's pretty much what I got, but with one of those "let's roll the credits just as the story really starts to get good" endings. Not so much like Empire, because while Empire left plenty of room for Return, it tied up things a little more neatly. I'd say more like Halo 2.

What Os/browser Do You Use To Vist Macross World?
mikeszekely replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I probably should have posted this a week ago, but I did finally get a MacBook. I'm really impressed. The design is pure Apple; simple, white, functional, elegant. I bought it stock, so I'll need to upgrade the RAM soon (actually, I'd like a bigger hard drive, too), but even with just 512mb, it's fairly snappy. 3-D rendering is a bit of a problem for it, with it's integrated GPU, but it handles multimedia very well. I put Star Trek Enterprise avi files on it, then connected the MacBook to my 52" television and home theater, then played them using the Front Row software. The interface is simply gorgeous, and the playback fills the entire screen at about TV quality. -
Robot Chicken is hilarious. And I don't know how it is now, but SeaLab 2021 was funny back in the day, at least. The episode where Murphy is stuck under the vending machine and gets addicted to scorpion venom amuses me.
-
Dude! Gwen Stacy! I'd say, overall, that there's some potential for a good story in Spider-Man 3 (one that might set Venom up as a villian for Spider-Man 4, but one that won't likely feature Venom for the time being). But for the big budget and CGI that's dumped into the movie, you'd think they could come up with a black costume that looks like THE black costume, not just the regular costume sans color.

Third. First season was shorter, so when they went to DVD box sets, season 1 and 2 are volume one, and season 3 was volume two.
-
No. Remember, I think soccer is boring, but I really can't stand to watch any sport for long. Hell, my local football team is Pittsburgh, and I couldn't even sit through this past Super Bowl. The only reason why I'll watch the end of a PGA tour event is because I'm usually impressed at how well they hit the ball.
-
I don't know. I've been watching the Futurama DVD sets... just finished season 3. The earlier stuff was hilarious, but as I work my way through, I'm starting to see why it got canned. The newer stuff wasn't nearly as funny. (As opposed to Family Guy, which was funniest in its third season... when it got canned).

Oh, I agree with you there. I just think that, in the interest of making a character believable, it's okay for them to do the wrong thing some of the time, even with the best intention, instead of always being a pillar of good, like Picard.
-
Frankly, I don't get this world obsession with soccer/football. It's gotta be one of the slowest sports available. At least in hockey you can hit people. Then again, I'm not really the best judge. I'm not really interested in any sport, save for the occasional lazy Sunday when I'll watch the end of the fourth day of whatever championship they're doing on the PGA tour that day.

While Roddenberry's idealism underpined the original series and TNG, I don't think it's fair to say that that idealism is defining for Star Trek... it's simply a reflection of the values of the audience at the time, and by extention, a certain atmosphere to particular series within Star Trek. TOS reflected the ideals of world peace and space exploration that were prevalent during the 60's, and the crew was the brave leader and his family, the rest of the crew. In the 80's, shuttle flights were regular, as often as twice a year, and we see some of that in TNG as the crew of the Enterprise did a lot less exploring and a lot more diplomatic missions and what not. There's also more of an emphasis on teamwork. I think, as the 90's wound down, audiences became a bit more cynical. The idealism that permeated TOS and TNG seems noble, but impractical. There's a certain fascination with flawed heroes... and let's face it, the DS9 crew was, in some ways, a collection of misfits. And the Dominion War brought out the worst in them, and made them all the more interesting for it. In fact, I think one my favorite DS9 episodes... I can't remember the title exactly, but in it Sisko works with Garrak to create some kind of false evidence to convince the Romulans that the Dominion was a threat to them so that they'd join the war on the Federation side. There's no doubt in my mind then that while the nobility of mankind worked before, that tarnishing that perfect image of the Federation makes it that much more believable. In any case, I think a story that has good people doing evil for a greater good can work without being preachy. Take The Boondock Saints, for example. The movie simply told the story, and then let the viewers draw their own conclusions about right and wrong at the end.

I'd watch a show about Section 31. How everything seems placid on the surface, but how Section 31, the Tal Shiar, and Klingon Imperial Intelligence try to outmaneuver each other from the shadows. A new look on familiar settings.

No wonder you think Gundam sucks. Of all the possible Gundam material out there, your friend had you start with the worst freaking one. The best of Gundam is in the UC... and that'd be Zeta, not the snorefest (albeit well-animated) 08th MS Team. But if you really want to see an awesome Gundam series without trying to digest the entire UC continuity, I HIGHLY reccomend Turn A Gundam.

Excuse me for saying so, but isn't that kind of the point? I didn't go to see Serenity because I felt I wasn't bored enough. I didn't go because I was hoping to find something educational, or something of intellectual value. I went because I wanted to be entertained. And I found it to be quite so. The problem is, most of Hollywood is so out of touch with the rest of America that they are more or less guessing what people might find entertaining. That's when we wind up with movies like Aeon Flux. Oh, yeah, and it's not so much that there's a lack of sci-fi movies... more like there's a lack of movies set in space...
-
Uhm... a lot of the rest of the world likes and appreciates the Star Trek image the way that it is. Are you certain you're not generalizing your specific region/country's opinion and applying it to the rest of the world? So yeah, more SCIENCE FICTION Star Trek would be great, and less SCI-FI Star Trek would be better. Star Trek is a niche-market product, and it's probably best for it to be limited to that niche market. 409488 C'mon, we can't even get people in the same country to get along, let alone with people in other countries. The idea that we're going to venture out into space and, for the most part, encounter peaceful humanoid aliens who share our dream of bettering the galaxy is a pipe-dream. It might have worked in the 60's, but not today.... especially not in a movie. You can get away with stuff like "Data's Day" in a TV series, but conflict moves a movie along. And the best Star Trek movies were the ones with the best villians. Think about it. II, III, VI, and First Contact kicked ass, because they fought Kahn, Klingons, more Klingons, and the Borg. I, V, and Insurrection sucked, because they fought a Voyager probe, a crazy Vulcan and a god who was so un-Almighty that he had to hijack a ship just to leave his planet, and some aliens who were having more plastic surgeries than Pamela Anderson.

Have You Ever Met A Celebrity Or Famous Person?
mikeszekely replied to Phalanx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ah, I almost forgot. Olympic medalist and Shop n' Save spokesmodel Mary Lou Retton used to shop at the Ames I worked at while I was in college. Also while I was in college, I met the Dalai Lama. -
What they really need to do is make a Guitar Hero for the 360 that can generate "levels" for the songs on your hard drive...

Have You Ever Met A Celebrity Or Famous Person?

How famous do they have to be to be considered famous? I used to hang out with some of the guys from the Juliana Theory, before they signed with Tooth and Nail. Feidler used to work at the mall where I presently work. There's a huge mansion being built on top of a hill less than a mile from my parents' house. Supposedly, it's Ben Rothleisberger's. Speaking of Steelers, I've met a few over the years. It happens to be that they're doing their training camp in Latrobe around the time that Madden is released, so they'd show up at my store for our midnight releases to nab a few copies for themselves. -
Yeah, that would rule. But first, I'd like to see an AC/DC Edition. After all, the Gibson SG was made most famous by Angus Young. I'd actually pay to see someone dress up like Angus and play "Thunderstruck." 408914 I'm surprised there wasn't any AC/DC included in the first edition. Seems like a no-brainer. Oh well add "Back in Black" or "Highway to Hell" to the list. 408934 If think of a band that you'd have figured for a no-brainer for the first one, they probably wanted it. Problem was, record companies were reluctant to license their music for it. Now that they know that Guitar Hero was a smash success, they're more eager to make their IP available for the sequel.

I didn't think it was that bad. Aside from the fact that god wanted to steal the Enterprise. And Eugimon, no, the Voyage Home didn't entertain me even a little. 5
-
Hey, no Star Trek movie is as bad as The Voyage Home. Corny dialogue, stupid time-travel plot, stupider "save the whales" plot...
-
Amen to that. If they're gonna use VH's cover of "You Really Got Me," they might as well include the "Eruption" intro. 408818 AFAIK, they are. As a matter of fact, GH2 DOES have a co-op mode. They didn't make it clear if the second player would have the option of rhythm guitar or bass, or if it was song-dependent (some songs play rhythm, some songs play bass). I'm mostly happy with the songs that have been picked so far for both games, but, as good as "Strutter" is, I'd really wish it'd been "Unholy." Actually, a Guitar Hero: Kiss Edition would be fairly kick ass.
