  1. Don't ever bring up Animatrix again - that was 2 horrible hours of my life. I felt cheated after watching that (I wanted my 2 hours back - I didn't pay to get in). That being said, I'm going to be quite upset if it's the same trailer that was on the Reloaded reel (I was working Reloaded here so I actually noticed it as we were getting finished up).
  2. Hmm, I'd have to say my favorite is the Hyaku-Shiki. Then the Zeta, the Gyan, Gelgoog, and Nu.
  3. It's a semi-legitimate market. Ebay here is a grey market for Yamatos and Bandais since they aren't supposed to be here. Also, re-importing stuff (such as medicines and computer software) and selling it constitutes a grey market.
  4. Hmm, I actually can believe that they look at MW and all sorts of forums. One of the reasons why Yamato has to charge so much is that, quite frankly, their Valkyries are horrible toys. Nice collectibles, horrible toys. Give a 6 or 7 year old a Yamato and a Bandai. Watch and see what happens. They won't really like the Yamato but they will love the 1/55. Yamato seems to have looked at what not to do when designing toys and then decided to do exactly that. To begin with, the market for these Valkyries is fairly limited since there's no Macross on TV (people that don't know a lot about what to get for gifts see something that seems popular on TV and then gets it for their kid) and, as previously stated, they aren't good toys. And QC isn't good. So we essentially get to pay for other people's mistakes. One thing that has always struck me as odd is that people don't want Macross if it isn't done by Kawamori. At least it's doing something with the show - if something wouldn't happen then it would eventually die out. Look at Macross 2 - most people don't like it but they love the VF-2SS. If someone came up with a new Macross TV series there would be toys and models from it and, probably, some of the older stuff would get reissued.
  5. I love the 1/55s, thats why I only have 2 Yamatos. 1 Takatoku VF-1A Misa 1 Takatoku VF-1S 1 Bandai Reissue CF VF-1A 1 Bandai Reissue VF-1S Super 2 Bandai Reissue VF-1S For some reason I have all these VF-1Ss even though they aren't my favorite. Actually, they are my least favorite.
  6. Well, I don't try with friends or extended family. With the parents it's usually "Here's the CC number, don't spend more than X amount on a gift" or I just get dragged into Best Buy. I got one of my friends a Bandai VF-1S, he really liked it (much more than his 1/55 MPC VF-1S). With relatives it's always just crap that I take back (usually from Marshall Fields), then I go to Target with the credit. Last year I got, from my aunt and uncle, a plastic dart set. For someone who was, at the time, 19. The reccomended age was only up to 6.
  7. Well, BW has done more on an international scale than HG has done domestically. And HG doesn't care about Macross stuff outside of the US (look at what has been released overseas, I'm pretty sure Tommy Yune even acknowledged the French release of Macross 7 Trash). Now, one thing that probably would have happened if it were Bandai as opposed to Yamato with the Mac+ valks is that they probably would have challenged HG over it. They could have just removed the friggin kite (UN Spacy would probably be considered fair use) and any mention of Macross and then just released the friggin thing and this thing (at least outside of the VF-1s and Flashback 2012) would have been resolved.
  8. Good for you re: the Reserves. (And here's hoping you stay safe.) If I may suggest something--the firstplace you should be putting your money is paying off your CC debts. Even before the piggy bank. Even before the 401K. It all comes down to interest rates. Unless you've got an incredible rate on your credit cards, you're paying much higher interest on that debt than you're likely to earn in savings or investments. Dare I say it--you should pay off your CC bills even before you put any more money into hobbies. Just look at how much interest you pay in a year and how much your savings and disposable income (for the latter, read: money for hobbies) will increase if you get rid of that debt. That's excellent advice there. There's also a variety of things to do with a mortgage. Like, instead of making a payment every month, make half a payment every two weeks. It doesn't seem like it makes much difference, but it takes years off your payments (I've been told by profs that it's 11, but I don't believe it). And make an extra payment every year instead of getting more valks. It's like 4 years of payment gone by the end. As for my debts, I don't even want to know. I'm still in college (a sophomore) and I'm not quite liking my major (it's not that I'm doing poorly - I'm one of the few Chem Es to get an academic scholarship) so that means something like graduate school, which is even more money. Although I am probably one of the few people without a job and $3000 in a checking account (I haven't started paying off those loans yet because of repayment provisions that I don't like).
  9. Now this is funny. I gotten 2 Bandai 1/55 shipped from that area to US for less than 1/2 that shipping cost. He is hoping that someone sees the buy it now and does not see the shipping cost. Umm, perhaps I should point out that it's obviously someone that had an extra or something of that nature, selling it to someone else. The listed bidder is the only one able to bid and there's the big shipping so he won't have to pay final value fees.
  10. Lack of interest in what's out there. That's one of the reasons why I like Gundam - there are so many MSs out there so it's hard to get tired of any one (except Bandai is really pushing me with their RX-78 MGs). Outside of that, money. That being said, it's not that much of a deterrent (I got myself a 1/72 Defender kit and I'm probably getting a 1/55 Hi-Metal super tomorrow, and there's some other stuff that's really tempting).
  11. Hmm, the most I've spent (and am still able to keep track of) is $90 on a Super (reissue) VF-1S with a strike cannon upgrade. It's somewhat ironic that I'll probably be getting a 1990 Super VF-1S missing only the gun, missiles, and gun clip for around that (and now there are 2 more and a Takatoku with acceptable prices on there).
  12. You aren't the only one. Although (odds are) I'll have gotten a 1990 Hi-Metal VF-1S (missing the missiles, gun and clip) for a little bit more than my reissue super. Watch and see, eventually they will have the Strike and the 1/48s on sale. It will just take a while, like it did with the 1/60 VF-1J.
  13. Although Tatsunoko & HG may have merchandising rights to designs that appeared in SDFM TV, I wonder if, conversely, they have no rights to "original" derivatives of their own. E.g., I wonder if Bandai/BW will be able to turn the tables on HG and argue that the YF-1R is an illegal infringement due to its being a new product based on the existing VF-1 design (especially if it has the UN Insignia). Same goes for any Sentinels-type sequels. And what about the fact that Matsushiro owns the patent on the original transformable valkyrie design, which was essentially copied by the Bandai HCM and Toynami MPC? I assume something has been worked out in Japan between the various toy/model makers. (And I'm guessing Matsushiro's patent is now owned by someone like Bandai or Big West...) But prior to the MPC, all non-import transforming Valks were actually made by Bandai & Matsushiro (i.e., the Joke Machines sold by Matchbox, and of course Jetfire). Is the patent expired? Do the current run of Robotech comic book adaptations use the UN insignia? Apologies if any of this has already been addressed in the past. Actually, the YF-1R appears, so that could be considered legitimate. However, the Sentinels raises a question. And Bandai could probably have a good reason to sue Toynami over their Valkyrie designs for copyright infringement. That's why there wasn't a transformable veritech during the 80s because of Jetfire, outside of the JMs, which were licensed from Bandai.
  14. Yes, I know. That's why he's such a COWARD. Hell, he could have posted this at Arcadia but I suppose there's no Steve Yun to protect his dumb ass there so he put at RT.com. EDIT TO YOU KNOW WHO LURKING: Don't bother going to Arcadia now after I've mentioned it! BoK actually has an active membership (BankofKev, established on August 26, I think the other bankofkev profile was proven to be a fake), but has no posts. There's also someone named Steve Yun here (again, with no posts).
  15. Hmm, I never noticed that on mine (probably because I never tried using the fast packs on it). Well, it would have wound up being the Matchbox Veritech's long lost cousin.
  16. Yeah, I'm upset too that the CF isn't on sale. I like Hikaru's paint scheme but I just can't justify getting more than 1 of them. And the CF is fast-pack ready.
  17. They got re-released. I got the last of the destroids from Marcias Locker like 2 weeks ago. As for the other kits, Bandai doesn't like to release a lot of the kits they have (outside of Nichimo's and Takatoku's Macross kits, Bandai has everything original in terms of models). They have never released any kits bigger than 1/72 scale and only those have been Valkyries. No monsters, and only that crappy 1/8000 Storm Attacker Mode model. Some of the 1/72 destroids are easy to come by though.
  18. Looks like engrish.com won't be going out of business any time soon. Yeah, anyone that knows another language gets a laugh when they see something translated with something like babelfish (I know Spanish). But it doesn't actually tell us anything (babelfish crap, although this is worse than usual).
  19. It's not that hard - just use your head. And I only use acrylics (don't need more poison around) so I don't know what to say if you're using oil based stuff. Just don't mix a ton at once.
  20. Is it just me or they are saying that BW doesn't want stuff to be distributed internationally yet it's been distributed in France? Doesn't that seem a bit hypocritical? And, for what everyone has to say, on RT.com when the release was announced, they only used the SDF Macross logo. Not the Macross 7 logo.
  21. Not the Yamato Moster. I'm currently chasing a broken Takatoku Monster though.
  22. I'd be scared if he wasn't. One of these is floating around on Yahoo JP (along with some Toynami RT stuff, some old RT VHS tapes and there was one of those horrid Matchbox "Veritechs"), fortunately nobody's stupid enough to spend 1000 yen on it
  23. ROTFLMAO Shouldn't HE be the one paying? Dude, is that an icepick or an oyster knife in the foreground on the right?? Yeah, If I were a chick, I'd bid on a date with the kid with an ICEPICK in his picture! lol. I didn't notice that before. Can anyone say "Patrick Bateman"? Although without the hiring prostitutes part.
  24. A Macres bootleg valk a few years ago. I know I didn't have a Jetfire, although I'm not sure if my brother did or not, I think he might have. After that I got a Takatoku Misa, then a Bandai CF. I only got my first Yamato in June and I only have 2 (not that much of a fan of the 1/60s, although I'm probably going to get the Hikaru VF-1S.) And now I've got a decent sized valk collection (by normal standards, not MW.)
  25. OMG that's so hilarious. that should definitely be pinned for as long as that auction's up.
