1. I haven't had a chance to play FM2 yet. Is the gameplay similar to FM1 or 3? Damn, the more I read about FM5's gameplay, the more I want to play it. I'm hoping Square is just getting ready to pounce with FM5 and FM Online...
2. Yep, the Filipino pilot is either an enemy ace or an ally depending on the story path. If you don't get him, you get the Bruce Lee wanna be as a pilot. I do remember painting Marcus' wanzer bright honkin orange and naming it Crush. His melee skills activated frequently, making mincemeat out of enemy missileers. I wonder if beam weapons will make comeback? That one beam rifle was fun to use in FM3, but it made battles way too easy.
3. I understand, it was cool how FM1 gave players the choice to use the entire roster or not. But using everyone just cluttered up the map and slowed down the game IMO. One feature I would like to see again is the option to eject and pilot any unattended vehicles. Not to mention blowing up an ailing wanzer with nothing more than a sidearm And I agree, FM4's story was weak compared to the other games. Still a blast to play though (love the linking system).
4. Yeah, it still has the menus (but now with characters models!) but I'd hate to miss out on the story, especially with some rumored cameos of other FM chars in the fray. I definitely would not have enjoyed FM1 as much if I didn't play the fan-translated version. Yup, I heard FM 4 didn't sell too well, in fact I think a MW'er even got a free copy from a retailer who was getting rid of extra stock. I've also heard talk of Square holding back the release due to Kindom Hearts 2 coming out around the same time. Who knows, but yeah hopefully E3 will shed some light on this. FM3 was actually the last FM game I played. I disliked how few units you could field at a time. YES! I hate SRPGs that give you a pile of units, then place a low cap how many you can field. I always subscribed to the mass chaos theory. Throw a million units out and overwhelm the enemy with numbers. FM3 was worse about it since all the mechs were THERE storywise, they just put their guns up or something. 377519 I feel the opposite; I liked managing a small squad of chars with their own specialty. However, this really hurt in the missions when ALL the chars have to be thrown in because only 5 out of ten of my members would be up to par with the enemy. With FM1, you're given around 18 members, but I still used only 4 or five of them. As soon as they gained a couple of key skills, they tore up every mission. To make matters worse for the enemy, the weight restriction was real loose, so I could have a Wanzer with two missile launchers, a shotgun, AND a claw arm. Oh, and I can't forget the handy supply truck that repairs all broken limbs. With all that, FM1 is the only FM game that allows one member to win battles by himself.
5. Y'know, my older sister still sings that song to this day...and it never fails to creep the phuck out of me.
6. Ok, after coming from a huge Front Mission fix, (I just finished FM 1-loved every minute of it) I checked out the status of the latest installment since it was supposed to be released stateside around this time. I was greeted by some awful news stating that the game might not even get a domestic release. ACK-Noooo! I think Square already made a blunder by not bringing over FM 1&2, but now FM 5 as well (especially after bringing back the coliseum feature)? Now all I got to quell my FM cravings are the simulations from FM3 & 4.
7. I remember going gaga over Mekanda as a wee tyke. That all changed after I saw Voltes V.
8. Great stuff, DB. Was this one made from an original JM or a Rohby recast?
9. I dig the green; I think it'd look snazzy on a Low Vis ver. 1.
10. I was kinda hoping to see a figure of Shogo from Part 2-I'd love to have an action figure with a mullett! But Part 1 Shogo is fine too, I'll just have to bloody him up a bit.
11. Any form of FFT toys I'll take, even gashapon! Heh, I could see the princess or even TG Cid as the "rare" figs. For the FFVI figs, I could see a fully rendered fig of their SNES sprites in all their SD glory included with their "realistic" counterpart figs similar to the FFVII Advent Children figures.
12. Nice Aardvark pics, Godzilla! Love the F-111. I'm still not sold on the camo valk. I agree with Neova in that it'll probably look a lot closer to the pics in the WonderFest thread than the pretty publicity shots, and those WF pics sure didn't make it look good. As for the stealth valk, it looks alright, but I think it'd look better w/out the skull logos on the tailfins. Oh well, at least I could save my $ for any VF-0 variants...
13. Yup, it'd be sweet if Patlabor got more attention in the form of toys. Bandai put out an Ingram figure a while back, but they didn't follow it up with a complete line. The arcade prize figs and gashapon are alright, but a full blown out toy of a Brocken or Griffon would be niiice. BGC figs were on the top my wish list for a loong time until they came out last year. Now I await for Motoslaves and Boomers (perhaps even a D.D. battlemover?...yeah right). Aside from that, I always thought that cool toys could be made out of: 1). Dangaioh (with Sidekick Wave action!) 2). FFVI chars 3). FF Tactics chars
14. Yep, that's what he said. It was long ago at one of the early AnimeExpos when they were still in the Santa Clara Valley. He was at a booth with his wife promoting all the Streamline releases and I asked about Zillion. He actually sounded quite excited about it, saying that all episodes will eventually be released and even some music videos. Maybe he was trying to get this dumb kid to buy his tapes. But hey, you don't have to believe me
15. The premise of the first Zillion game was similar to an old Atari game where you had to memorize codes and input them in trap infested rooms to advance through an enemy installation. Once the last room is reached, an self destruct code is entered and you had to get out of the whole maze quickly...after fighting a huge boss. Good times. That was my first exposure to Zillion, and it was a surprise to find out one of the main characters was female (The instruction book referred to Apple as a dude). As for the anime, I remember Mr. Macek saying the whole series would eventually be released. Pffft.
16. Man, I want nothing to do with a retaliation that relies on BO. I get enough of that from my housemates...
17. The news of another low-vis coming down the pipe is definitely reassuring. It could be that Yamato is gathering some feedback to see how popular the new paint schemes could be. Isn't that how the first low-vis made it to the production line?
18. Wow. I'm glad Yamato is branching off with different paint schemes, but those valks are just funky looking. The camo valk looks kinda cheap-I think its the dark brown spots that turn me off. Damn, I was really hoping another version of the low-vis would come out too.
19. Man, the VF-0 is one goony looking bird...I love it. Now, where to make an order...
20. Those small grey pieces in the valk's box look a deal breaker for me. I'm assuming it needs those pieces to be solid all three modes, and I know I'd lose them all. Battroid looks decent, but I want to see fighter pics. As for Hikaru, it's the first decent looking Macross 12 incher IMO, but I'm not gonna plunk down $80 for one. Damn, a Roy doll would be huge if it was made in the same scale.
21. let me see what i can do, i should be able to get a set or 2 in. anything else i should bring? 356817 Actually, scratch the FP set, but I think I'll pick up a CMs 3 set for a friend of mine.
22. It makes her impervious to most attacks, and enemies cannot carry her off anymore. If they do try to snag her, they end up dropping to the ground because of all the weight . I don't know if she would still fall to one hit kills though (i.e. chainsaw slashes, rpg blasts, dodge events). So what does this make her? Plaga bait! Just leave her in the middle of a mob and watch em try to kill her or carry her off while you pop them in the head.
23. The laser kinda blows. It has to be charged ala Megaman for a solid beam. The tommy gun and the infinite RPG launcher combo is a lot more fun IMO. BTW, Ashley's 3rd outfit makes PRO mode a LOT easier.
24. Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon! "Who's the MAYSTAH?"
