If you ask me, if you want to get just one Freedom kit, get this: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN900741 its basically the same kit as the 2nd one you posted but with extra chrome finish parts (for the golden frame) and an extra action base complete with the wing funnel booster effects. About your question about 1/60 VS 1/100....the 1/60 is just big, and that's just it. It lacks detail and the joints are not as good/poseable as the MG kit. Generally you grade the kits from the "grade". Grades are No Grade, High Grade, Master Grade, and Perfect Grade, from lowest to highest. Those 1/60s you shown i think are under the No Grade category. So they're pretty big but their engineering is pretty simple with little detail.

I think you got confused. The one he got was the one by Bandai. This was an exclusive at Wonderfest Summer 2006 ( i assume its now re-issued?) which is an unpainted resin kit. The frigging thing is HUGE! I'd say its at 1/3 or 1/4 scale..... (60 cm according to the site...almost a meter tall) And yes Bome did the sculpt. If you really want it, prepare to make alot of display room for it. I kid you not. Doubt this will be released under Kaiyodo in his pre-painted line since its a Gainax exclusive item.

Got my "complete" set yesteday. Pretty awesome. Makes you wish they were die cast. All of them come pretty much fixed in fastpacks or regular fighter mode. I'm not sure if the missiles can come off but it seems like they are fixed in place to the wing quite firmly, and I don't wanna remove them anyway. They all come with landing gears and a flight stand to be displayed in flight. Highly recommended for the Macross fan. Buy a few sets to be displayed with your SDF-1 and you'll have Space War 1.
