  1. For ants indeed. It says "mini", I know... I like seeing a new SDF-1 toy but not a 110mm height/length version that is priced at 7500 yen. More than the price, the reduction of detail is what I'm mainly concerned with. At the size that this is going to be produced at, you can't have the fine detail that a larger scale representation would possess. The SDF-1's design is filled with intricate detail that I would sorely miss in a roughly 4" representation.
  2. I am the happy new owner of the super parts and Ghost set for the Renewal RVF-25! To be honest, I am not a big fan of super parts on the RVF-25 but I think the Ghosts are essential for any owner of Luca's VF.
  3. Hell yeah! I really like the YF-29 in the Ozma custom colors but I'm not 100% sure if I'm willing to put down the money for the toy. The VF-25S, on the other hand, I would have no doubt in buying one if/when it is re-issued.
  4. Thanks for the clarification, folks! Now the pricing differences makes sense.
  5. I'm confused about the MSRP for the YF-29 Ozma custom. I recall seeing several pages back that the price was 18360 yen. Now some people in this thread say that the retail price is 17000 yen. However, AmiAmi and HobbySearch both say that the MSRP is 14000 yen. So...what's the true retail price? I did not play the pre-order game since it played out as I anticipated(ridiculously quick sell outs). I am thinking of perhaps buying this when it is released and it will hopefully become reasonably easy to acquire(ie. I don't have to watch online retail listings like a hawk). I do not want to pay an inflated amount for this, though, so I'd like to know what it actually should be retailing for.
  6. There is only one thing that is on my wishlist for Bandai's 2014 line up: A DX Chogokin compatible vajra toy. I know that hero designs are the most popular and so those are the go-to designs that make it to toy form but as great as it is to see all the Macross Frontier designs that make it to the DX Chogokin toyline, I would love to see some vajra in toy form. What good is having a bunch of hero VFs with nothing to oppose on our display shelves? I know the common counter to the notion of making toys of enemy characters, especially ones without speaking roles, is that they won't sell and that the toy manufacturer would lose money. However, making a vajra toy a made to order product would be a win-win scenario. Bandai would not have to risk as much money as they would with a regular release and toy collectors would have the opportunity to purchase something that could make their collection more complete. Now, a proper vajra toy that is in scale with the DX Chogokin VFs would be large and, thus, expensive, but if it was given the same level of design as the Renewal toys, I think it could be worth the price. As much as I look forward to someday having all of the Macross Frontier Skull Squadron in my collection, I would like to display them facing off against a vajra or two instead of flying in formation, which is boring to me. My VFs must fight enemies, not have tea parties in space!
  7. I'm just speculating here but if the product turns out to be the VF-0D, it could make sense. By introducing the 0D first, it whets the appetite for a return of 0A and 0S toys, especially in the form of new designs rather than re-issues of the v1 toys. Basically, Arcadia creates hype for their Wonderfest announcement and if it turns out to be the 0D, they create more hype for the inevitable 0A and 0S follow ups. As a big fan of the Macross Zero designs, I am definitely hoping that this turns out to be the 0D for this reason: Hero variants of VFs are guaranteed but variants like trainer units are not necessarily popular so whether or not they get produced can be iffy. So if Arcadia starts off with the 0D, we get a non hero unit for sure as well as the 0A and 0S VFs later on because it would be a foolish missed opportunity to not produce the hero units.
  8. As a fan of the VF-19, I would love to see this happen but I thought the shoulder parts attach to the shoulder armor rather than where the holes are shown in the photo of the YF-19 v2(basically where the trapezius muscles would be on a human).
  9. Just to make sure I'm on the same page as everyone else...are we measuring in 1/60 scale? ... Seriously, back on topic, whatever Arcadia announces at Wonderfest, I hope that we see a solid prototype sample, hopefully three to show off all three modes.
  10. If Arcadia makes a VF-0D, considering the pricing of their VF-1 re-uses of the Yamato v2 VF-1 mold as well as the MSRP of the v2 YF-19, a price around $250 would not be unexpected.
  11. Agreed. The 25A is my first Frontier Valk toy and definitely not my last.
  12. I hope I'm mistaken. I'd love to pay less for a VF-0 toy! I normally go to HLJ when I try to find the MSRP for products since they normally list the MSRP even for discontinued items. According to HLJ, the MSRP for the VF-0 standalone toys was 16,800 yen. It sounds like you bought your VF-0S at a very nice discount, aaajin.
  13. The $200 mark sounds fair for a v2 VF-0 toy. I believe the Yammie v1 VF-0 standalone toys had a MSRP of about $170. Edit: With respect to dimensions, the results of a quick search for stats show that the VF-0A length in fighter mode is 18.69 meters while the VF-1A length in fighter mode is 14.23 meters. So the VF-0 VFs are a fair bit larger than the VF-1 VFs.
  14. I originally didn't think I would have room in my collection for more than one YF-29(the Isamu custom) but this Ozma custom sure is tempting. I like the head sculpt and I really like the darker colours in fighter mode combined with the yellow highlights. I don't care for the blue as shown in the photo but it's not necessarily what the production model will have. I'd like to see a darker and more subdued blue or purple for the canopy. From the screenshots of the fighter mode I've seen, the canopy and crystals seem to have a purple tint that is revealed when light sources hit the surfaces. Edit: skullmilitia and Gakken85 make strong arguments. I must buy the YF-29 Ozma custom now!
  15. Could that be a reference to the original release date of the Renewal VF-25S? Didn't it come out in January 2012?
  16. As someone who is crossing their fingers for Arcadia to announce that they will be producing the VF-0D in toy form, I've been looking at Macross Zero line art lately with a closer eye. Here are some animated GIFs to show the structural differences between the 0D and 0A. There would be some significant retooling required but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that if Arcadia produces the 0D, the 0A and 0S would be close behind.
  17. If this turns out to be indeed the VF-0D, it would make sense to get the most out of the base mold, which would mean producing the 0A and 0S.
  18. Consider the horses held! If Arcadia revisits the Macross Zero designs, I will be putting aside money for the toys without a doubt.
  19. Excellent! It looks like I'm on the hunt for a VF-0.
  20. My perspective is that of a person who has just started collecting Macross toys a few months ago so take my view with a grain of salt. That being said, as an owner of a Yamato version 2 VF-1 toy(specifically the movie version CF VF-1A), I think that the Arcadia VF-1S Hikaru and Roy DYRL colours(and VF-1J in anniversary colours) are nothing short of fantastic works of engineering and art. I don't own a version 1 1/60 VF toy nor do I own a 1/48 VF toy but from all accounts, the version 2 1/60 scale VF toys are the best representation of the VF-1 design to date. Are the Arcadia re-issues of Yamato's version 2 VF-1 toys worth roughly $170? There is more than one answer to this question. A straight up answer is that, I don't think it's worth $170 but if you look around, especially via online retailers or auction sites, you can find discounted pricing. For a person who has been a collector of Yamato Macross toys and has seen these same toy designs at a MSRP of roughly $100, I don't think that the price tag of $170 is justifiable. The Arcadia VF-1 toys bring a display stand to the package but I don't think it's worth a price hike of nearly double the original MSRP. However, I'm sure there are other factors involved with the higher pricing so it's not just a matter of a $70 display stand. For a person who has never owned a version 2 Yamato VF-1 toy, I think that the price tag of $170 isn't so bad. Definitely look for a lower price but when I look at the current market of high end action figures, considering the complexity of engineering and design of the version 2 VF-1 toys, $170 for a transforming robot toy of the caliber of a version 2 VF-1 isn't unreasonable. I think it comes down to what you're willing to do for a toy like this. Yes, you could find cheaper pricing if you hunt around but even if you find a cheaper price online, how much will shipping cost you? Also, how much is your time worth to you? If you can buy an Arcadia VF-1S toy right now locally, that means you can spend your time doing something aside from doing legwork for finding a better deal on a toy purchase.
  21. I have a question for VF-0 toy owners: How does the feel of the toy in hand compare to that of the SV-51? I ask this because I've read about the floppiness of the SV-51 toy that arises after being handled after a while but I don't find my Nora type, which was purchased already owned, to be that bad at all. Aside from loose ball joints at the hips, which were easily remedied by tightening the screws of the housings around the hip joints, I don't find the toy floppy. It's by no means a rock solid figure but it can hold poses with no problems.
  22. I may be mistaken but I've read on Jenius' review of the Yammie VF-0 toys that there are three "safe" VF-0 production runs. 1) The CF, ie "Unknown Soldier" version of the VF-0A, which has a no-name pilot figure instead of Shin. The box looks like this: 2) The VF-0S Ghost Bundle, which was "the first release officially declared safe". 3) The VF-0S stand alone re-issue that comes in the same box as the first production run, making it difficult to find out if you've gotten a first or second production run toy. I am also debating whether or not to buy a VF-0 toy. I've wanted one for quite some time. After acquiring a SV-51 a little while ago, I feel like I need a VF-0 to pair up with it. I know that even with the "safe" production run units, the toys are reported to be generally sloppy at the joints but at the same time, I don't know if Arcadia will touch the Macross Zero toy designs, either for a re-issue of the Yammie toy designs or take a stab at coming up with new toy designs of their own. So I'm feeling the itch to burn some money and buy a "safe" VF-0 toy.
  23. According to the online data for the YF-29, the wings retract/collapse in fighter mode for high speed flight capability.
  24. Ouch! A collecting guideline I have is to go for cannon fodder/mass production variants primarily. When they're available, I'll buy them over "hero" units. However, with the issues that seem to be reported by CF VF-171 owners(mainly the NUNS triangles crumbling), this is a case where I will probably opt for the Alto EX version instead.
  25. Monday Funday for me! I received these two long lost siblings in the mail this morning:
