  1. That's great, ChaoticYeti. Thanks!
  2. If anyone here has the know how, I'd love to see the top down line art of the YF-19 transposed over the Yamato toy and the Arcadia toy, just to see exactly how much the toys differ from the animation model's dimensions. As already noted by Vi-RS, the YF-19's animation model doesn't translate exactly into real life, aka three dimensional space. There's "anime magic" at work that creates visual cheating in the animation. There is going to be a necessary compromise in the toy somewhere as far as likeness to the animation model goes.
  3. As a happy owner of a Yamato VF-19S, I am eager to see how the v2 YF-19 exceeds the VF-19 toy design. The latest photos of the YF-19 are looking great to me.
  4. As someone who has recently started seriously collecting Macross toys, I have a lot of catching up to do. However, the primary focus I have at this time for what I collect is cannon fodder/mass production units. I go into hero units for certain Valks such as Isamu's YF-19.
  5. The YF-19 is shaping up very nicely!
  6. Haha, yes, my shame has been revealed for all to see. What can I say? It may be over a decade old but my CRT monitor works like it did on day one of hooking it up so I am loathe to discard it. As far as what I did to the leg of the Gundam, I just left the armour off to display the inner frame details.
  7. My second ever Yamato Valk purchase and my first Yamato VF-1. My cannon fodder squadron is slowly but surely growing!
  8. I did not know about the potential contribution to plastic yellowing that plastic bags pose! Hmm, I'll have to make sure to avoid keeping the figures in their original bags if I return them to their boxes. Better to err on the side of caution.
  9. I've never found the Private Warehouse options to be more expensive. You actually do save money by combining items. The PW doesn't save you money just by having items put in there. What it does is that it allows you to order items over a period of time and you decide when they ship and how they ship. The PW option isn't meant for "make an order and then ship the order when ready". It's meant for people who intend to make multiple orders over time and then ship them at their leisure and to their specifications with respect to which items to ship in an order. I've just compared the shipping costs of an order I have in my PW and the exact same order processed without using the PW option and the shipping costs are exactly the same. PW saves you money if you take some time to arrange your orders to maximize the potential for putting smaller items in with larger items to essentially piggyback on the larger items and either minimize or nearly eliminate extra shipping costs that would be incurred if you put together orders that don't make effective use of the shipping box sizes that HLJ has. Weight is used to calculate shipping costs but that's not all. A major factor in shipping fee calculation is the size of the box the order is shipped in, the dimensions. For an example of just straight forward savings made by maximizing the use of shipping box space, I recently ordered 3 model kits that fit perfectly into one of HLJ's smaller sized shipping boxes. The extra space around the model kit boxes was roughly half an inch on each side. The shipping cost was roughly 1500 yen. To ship each model kit individually would cost 980 yen per kit.. If I shipped just two of the model kits, the shipping cost was 1300 yen. By adding the third model kit to the order, I only had to pay an extra 200 yen for a total of 1500 yen.
  10. Good to know I'm not the only one, haha. Now I have ZZ Top's "Legs" song stuck in my head! Onto more serious matters... I like the idea of the weapon bay for the YF-30, though I'm not a fan of its look in Battroid mode. However, I've learned in the past that the best way to judge a figure is to have it in hand.
  11. Is it strange that the legs are what appeal to me the most about the YF-30? I just love the more classic looking VF-1-ish lower leg look.
  12. I've noticed shipping has been slow to complete from NY. I've also noticed slowness in response to inquiries made to their CS department. I sent an inquiry for one of my orders over a week ago, still no response.
  13. I really want to like the Battroid mode more but the missile rack and how the wings are composed just don't look good to me. That being said, I do like the way that the lower legs look more "classic" VF in design with a more robust look to them.
  14. Very nice! Seeing as the DX VF-25A is my only DX Renewal Valk, this may be something I'll have to purchase.
  15. It's great to see more photos of the figure. I hope that it is not released in such limited quantity that pre-ordering it is as troublesome as it has been for me in the past when I tried to secure a DX Chogokin Renewal Valk.
  16. I prefer the TV versions of the designs over DYRL and I especially would love to have a TV Q-Rau to pose with TV VFs.
  17. Thank you for the warm welcome! I just recently found this forum and it's looking good here. I'm a long time Macross fan(big fan of mecha in general) and I've only gotten into model kits a couple of months ago so this thread of yours and some of the others I've found here are great education for a novice like me. It's good to read that the decals are pretty difficult to remove once they're set.
  18. This is a great thread! I just want to thank mickyg for taking us along on the journey of assembling and painting the VF-25G. Big thanks also goes to all the folks who have contributed to the thread. I can't wait for the next post on the progress of the model.
  19. I'm very interested in the 1/72 model kits by Bandai for Macross Frontier but I'd like to know more about them before committing $50 for a kit. I realize there is a lot of information about the kits as this is the third version of the thread(wow!) but I'm not able to really get a good bearing on the hard and fast pros and cons of the kits. Some people really seem to like them while others don't. Jarrod's list of pros and cons for the 1/72 VF-27 seem to imply some issues with the 1/72 VF-25s. Are there other known issues with the 1/72 MF model kits? I would appreciate any insight and info you guys can share. Just FYI, I'm relatively new to the model kit scene as I've just started working on these cool products a few months ago. I started off on Bandai's Gundam kits, mainly the 1/144 scale High Grade kits. I'm also branching out into other areas like Kotobukiya's various model kits.
