  1. That's kinda pushing it there. First of all I don't know where most of these reviews are and saying "in spite" of the niche interest area when their core product WAS Robotech and Macross in the first place. And let's face it, when push came to shove and when it was time to step up with the big boys to produce their "Masterpiece" line, Toynami failed miserably. The veritech line was outdated in both look and engineering and the Alphas fell apart in your hands. Their best product to come out of that line was designed and manufactured by an outside firm and it failed miserably after 2 releases. The Masterpiece Beta, again... was only made possible by another company and greatly overshadowed the toy it was supposed to support. And even then, at the same time, they had to recall the continuation of that line that they were doing on their own.

I like these vinyl regults, but it doesn't stand as a testament for them as toy makers. I think the sculptor is talented but he's backed by a company that doesn't care what happens to the product once its in your hands. I think vinyl is the only way for them to go EVEN if the economy was good enough for them to continue with more complex toys.

Excuse my bitterness but I was just reminded of how crappy these toys are because I was trying to take a part from my broken Masterpiece OF CRAP! Scott Bernard Alpha to send it to someone that needed it for repair. And it's so crappy that 5 pieces broke before I can get to the piece itself. And there's no easy way to get to any part either because everything is glued together instead of screws. What? Are they afraid that someone is going to steal their designs? Is anyone out there really insane enough to bootleg the Alpha? Maybe if they did, it would be more sturdy.

There's the relatively ubiquitous feeling I was talking about.

  2. It's cool they're offering this alternative though I'm not a fan of the DYRL color scheme personally. It's ironic the near universally reviled Toynami is delivering a relatively decent product and filling a niche the other Macross manufacturers aren't willing or able to.

  3. I just got mine today. I'm not fond of the fighter or gerwalk modes but Battroid is where it's at. It looks great posing next to my two Toynami Regults. I'm also very impressed with some of the transformation/joint ideas used on this valk. Despite being small and toy-like (it is a toy...) it feels very solid. None of my 1/60 Yammies feel as stable as this little guy. I think I'll be springing for the VF-19S now.

  4. hey man, did you just get it today? still no payment request for me. here's hoping i can still get the discount...

I finally got mine early this morning. They combined my VF-1S with the Hi-Metal VF-1J order and gave me the 15% shipping discount. Just needs to ship now. The waiting really is the hardest part...

  5. You might wanna tighten (or loosen) the screw found inside the left landing gear bay. Other posters here have indicated that this helps to fix a floppy wing.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that tonight when I get home from work.

  6. I got my gamlin yesterday too. Unfortunately, the nose cone coloring is a little different, especially under dim light. The other thing is that my right wing hinge was cracked out of the box. =/. I guess this is where I contact HLJ -_-

Wow, cracked? That sucks man. I guess I should check mine to see if I have one too. I noticed my left wing seems a little loose and will easily fall if it gets tapped. I didn't notice any discoloration on mine. I seem to be getting pretty lucky with all of my valks so far. No shoulder exploding on my Hikaru VF-1A DYRL or VF-1J with the armor (yet), and both of the VF-11C's have legs that stay connected to the body.

  7. Finally got my Gamlin yesterday. It's a lot darker than the photos made it look. I was very happy to find that out. Pretty cool looking. Now that Max 22 is calling to me... ugh, I don't have any more shelf space to keep these things on!

  8. I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered. Will let everyone know what I think once it arrives unless somebody else here beats me to the review.

That crouching position is pretty cool looking. And the shots of Hikaru and Max back to back makes the Max Valk look pretty cool.

Well never mind. Amiami decided, although I preordered, that they didn't have the quantity of items and apparently canceled it. Or, rather, the pre-order had an error and then disappeared from my cart.

  9. Woot! My VF-1D arrived today! Holy Cow! Shipped out on the 23rd, arrived today on the 25th! Well, HLJ.com has a new fan!

I filed a dispute with Paypal regarding Overdrive. Today, I go to check my account and noticed some new activity. Looks like they refunded all but $8 of my $206. Either they had phantom merchandise and didn't detect it until I placed an order or they figured I was more trouble than I'm worth.

Still, I'm wondering why they're trying to keep $8? <_<

Holy crap, where do you live? Mine went out the 23rd and it's still STUCK in customs.

  10. So, is anyone getting this at all? While I can understand the felling of not wanting to get another VF-1 toy, I can't help but feel that this toy isn't getting as much love as it should.

    More mag scan.
