1. Does Mari not fit, or do the rest of the voice actors not fit? That's the real question here.
2. I'd say that a fair and accurate statement.
3. Rick Hunter doll has a 'fro.
4. Pretty easily, actually... It sounds like it was recorded in my shower. The lyrics are horrid. The singing is karaoke bar bad. The BGM is weak, at best. Let's see, did I miss anything?
5. For a show in the mid-90's, it was inexcusable. 369486 What mid 90's are you talking about? It's no worse than any of its contemporary series -Gundam Wing -Tekkaman Blade -Escaflowne -Irresponsible Captain Tylor just to name a few. All character models stayed spot on during the entire run of the show, which is more than can be said for most series. 369773 Comparing it similarly poorly animated shows doesn't help your argument, Keith. Shows that would have looked bad in the 80's (Hell, Tekkaman Blade makes Anime Friend's work look good). Three words, Keith: Neon Genesis Evangelion Hell, I'd go as far to say SDC Southern Cross had more consistant animation than Macross 7. Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, hell, shows much older than Macross 7.
6. Yeah, that sounds about right to me. Its the worst "professional" subtitle job I've ever seen.
7. I second the motion.
8. For a show in the mid-90's, it was inexcusable.
9. Wait wait... wasn't there an officially commissioned Power Bike built over a decade ago?
10. Yeah, my upload rates got nailed too. I'm at like 4700 down, 250 up. Makes sharing a pain.
11. Actually, the entire series has happened like that. They had no idea in the mini or for most of season 1 where they were taking any of this. It wasn't until season 2 that they set down the long term plot. Its covered in the blog and in the podcasts. Look at it this way: The Cylons were clearly bent on the eraditcation of the human race in the mini and season 1. Now, as season 2 is coming to a close, its been made quite clear that's not the case at all... infact, they need the humans to be able to pro-create. The continuity has gone wonky because they simply had no definite long term plans. Its a little like what we saw happen with Lucas and the prequels.
12. Not that Macross Plus didn't have great music, but since when are dance clubs with their shitty techno, the standard of good music? If anything, I'd be offended to hear Plus's music degraded to that. 369250 Too good for clubs? Mom's basement has hotter women? 369254 And plenty of Fire Bomber tunes...
13. Another solid episode. I never liked Billy's haircut, anyway. Next week: Crimson Tide!
14. Clubs where, in the US!? 369106 In Europe to, from what I understand. Extensive may have been an overstatement, but it certainly got some attention. Clubs, raves, straight or remixed.
15. Macross Plus music got some extensive club play. Its clearly the highest quality music in the Macross franchise.
16. Robotech had a pretty good BGM. You could also argue that the songs in The New Generation are superior to much of what was in MOSPEADA. Actually, I think MOSPEADA has some of the most consistantly bad music of any anime I have ever watched. Macross with the original songs, but the Robotech BGM? It would be insteresting to see how it worked.
17. I heard "pudknocker" once on Beavis and Butthead over a decade ago. I've never actually heard it used in real life, or anywhere else for that matter. You have to wonder about the kind of peopel ADV employs...
18. LOL, I must have missed the episode of Macross 7 that had those things in them. Which one was it?
19. Macross never has been my favorite anime. I wasn't really a fan coming out of Robotech (I fell in love with MOSPEADA). It wasn't until I saw DYRL? in '91 that I really got into Macross. Its also the same time I saw Gunbuster and Nausicaa, my two favorites. Macross really kicked into high gear for me when Plus came out. Its been in a slow decline ever since.
20. I think that if it came out that we had seen the last of Macross, I wouldn't have any problem with it. It would take a truly dynamic new Macross production to change my feelings on this.
21. Harmony Gold makes the same mistakes the RIAA and the MPAA keep making. Somehow, they feel that abusing their consumer base is the way to do more business.
22. SDF Macross A great story heavily flawed by incosistant animation. The non-Anime Friend episodes look fantastic for their day. The mecha sequences in these episodes are more fluid and dynamic than much of what we see over 20 years later. I'd almost call them legendary. The strengths of the story and these brilliant flashes of animation overcome the damage done by a shoddy animation studio (Anime Friend). Its unfortunate that their work make watching an anime classic almost unbearable at times. Macross DYRL Brilliant work, but as stated already, it cannot stand on its own merits, its needs the original series to make it complete. It may be the best Macross work ever produced. And really, you haven't lived until you've seen the uncut Hong Kong dub in all its glory. Macross Flashback A nice little add-on to the series and the movie. Essentially a long music video, with some great new animation. Worth seeing just for the Megaroad-01 and the VF-4. Macross II Oh, how excited I was when this came out. It never comes close to what it should be. Some of the music is fun, and it has some decent to exciting mecha designs. Worth watching as a novelty, but it really has no place amongst the franchise proper. Macross Plus For me, the true heir to the original series. A tight story, great animation, amazing music, the love triangle, and some top notch mecha combat. No fat, no crap, just a good, hard Macross story. Clearly the direction the franchise should have gone, unfortunately... Macross 7 I'll never get these hours of my life back again. The story goes nowhere for 50 episodes, the animation is substandard, the music is bad jpop, and it adds several elements to the Macross mythos that have no business being there (effeminate male villians, space monsters, magic, and the like). The Jar Jar Binks of the Macross franchise. Macross Zero I've watched it twice and I still don't get it. Spinning off of the Macross 7 continuity, it just doesn't seem to fit in with the franchise. The mecha designs that pre-date the original series really seem so far more advanced, they just don't work. I'm left feeling indifferent, and I wonder if this wasn't the last gasp of a franchise that has seen its day.
23. Wizards, Warriors, Agent One & You
24. What kinda girly man whining thread is this? Buncha slack-jawed...
25. Fornicating with hovertanks should be an offense punishable by public castration. 366534 If loving a Hover Tank is wrong, I don't want to be right!
