1. Waddling into a cinema near you Another film on the penguin theme is Happy Feet (December), a computer-animated comedy by George Miller that tells the tale of an emperor penguin who tries making up for his lack of singing ability by tap dancing his way across the permafrost. (Miller is also in pre-production for Mad Max 4, which, let's face it, is the news we really want to hear.) He's also been quoted in non-online publications that the film is back in pre-production, with full production starting by the end of the year.
2. No wonder the Colonies were annihilated, the Viper Launchers only hold 2 Vipers.
3. Hey, the age thing is a problem, I believe I stated that months ago (along with a few posts up). My only point was that we were all a bit off using Obi Wan as an example, as the character's age (57) and the actor's age (62) were close enough to be reasonable. Beru, Owen, & Anakin remain problems. As I said months ago, the Seven Samurai template would have been an obvious choice for Lucas to base the prequels on, I really think he missed the boat there. Starting off with a 10 year old boy (or however old he was) threw off the entire age continuity. So, the Seven Samurai... you could easily turn the peasant/bandit conflict into the Clone Wars (which should have taken up the entire Trilogy). The forbidden relationship between the peasant girl and the young samurai could easily have been Padme and Anakin. Now, you take the Magnificent Seven path, and combine the Kikuchiyo and Katsushiro characters into one. He becomes Anakin. He idolizes the leader, now a more appropiately older Obi Wan, and is reckless in his attempts to prove himself. His lack of control and his penchant for following his emotions lead to his downfall. And, in this version, he truly does kill Padme.
4. Except he take orders from Tarkin in the original film. If owning the 6 films on DVD and growing up in the Star Wars generation makes me a "Star Wars Geek", well, I guess I'm guilty. You realized wrong. Being that you're part of the "his hands are too small" crowd, I know there is little chance to reason with you. And you might want to go back a bit in this thread, and read what I was actually saying instead of assuming. The fact still remains, Guinness was 62, no matter how old you thought he looked.
5. Oh, you mean like Vader taking orders from Tarkin? Governor Tarkin, I should have expected to find you holding Vader's leash.
6. Except he wasn't. He was only 62. Unless you have figured out some way that Lucas has tinkered with Guinness's birth date, thereby ruining his childhood as well.
7. Hikaru is a totally different cat in Macross than he is in Robotech. As is Minmay, for that matter. You could almost argue that their personalities are reversed between the two incarnations.
8. Some more age comparisons... Shelagh Fraser, who played Aunt Beru, was 54 at the time of filming. Phil Brown, who played Uncle Owen, was 60. As seen in Episode III, Bonnie Piesse (Beru) was 21, and Joel Edgerton (Owen) was 30. Being that they are 19 years between III and IV, you are looking at 40 years and 49 years, respectively. That's where the real age discrepancy is. Even with the reasonable aging effects of the environment, that's pushing it.
9. Man, I dumped those model mag wallpapers I did a few years back.
10. That would be my assumption as well.
11. GUNBUSTER GUNBUSTER GUNBUSTER!!!
12. Ok, something interesting that fits in around where this thread left off... According to the official chronology, Obi Wan was 57 at the time of his death. Alec Guinness was 62 at the time of the filming of the original Star Wars. Not as much of a stretch as we thought it was.
13. But sadly at R2 prices as well, it seems. I get the feeling they aren't going to last if they don't get a clue about the US market really quick. 365035 I'll pay the price for a top line Gunbuster DVD release. Its easily my favorite anime.
14. I have no idea what that means. 365010 Bandai Visual (not to be confused with the U.S. arm Bandai Entertainment) has recently started up a new U.S. division for high end special edition anime releases titled "Honeamise." Their first scheduled release is a box with the first 2 Patlabor movies given an R2 quality treatment. 365015 Daaaaaamn, son!
15. I have no idea what that means.
16. I had a bunch of feelings about this episode that got lost during the site downtime. At this time, I'm pretty much just feeling that I liked it cause it did something that was severely lacking, and that was seeing what was going on in the fleet itself. We need more of this.
17. Anything animated by Anime Friend.
18. Actually, my impression from the podcast that the Pegasus was certainly going to be staying around. He purposefully wants to go against what is expected.
19. Just catching up on the past two commentary podcasts... seems the Pegasus is a permanent member of the "rag tag fleet". Moore wanted to go against what was expected (the Pegasus being around for only a few episodes) and typical. Didn't sound like he has any plans for it other than it is now a mainstay of the new show.
20. I thought Amazon would have honour it. But even so, it's very likely they would give some rebate points as compensation. 362827 No, they don't have to. And no, they won't. Its Amazon.com policy, we had pretty much no chance of getting it at that price.
21. Its official, all orders are being cancelled.
22. No. See the post at the top of the page.
23. Just checked the site, its been pulled from sale.
24. Amazon hit by pricing error Customers who thought they'd secured a TV for a bargain price have been left disappointed, after Amazon pulled the mispriced offer From this past October. Funny thing is, if Amazon were a real, physical store, they'd have to honor it.
25. I don't think this is a blow out sale, its showing the list price as $9.98. Someone screwed up, or there is a glitch in the system.
