So after a few days of a pure Simple Green bath and scrubbing once each day, this was the result:

There was some stubborn paint on there. I was really hoping it would get all of the paint off, but I'm fine with the results.

It got most of the brush marks off, and whatever is left, I'll call it surface texture, lol!  Don't think the Klingons were too concerned with having a pretty ship and finish anyway :)

That sounds like a great idea! Who's up for it? - MT

So, I saw this on FB today.

I've been so focused on my Star Trek refurbishments recently, I totally forgot I have a pile of old Macross kits I did as a kid that I could refurbish one day.  And since most of them are broken and missing parts, they are perfect candidates for "battle damage" builds!

Might be a while before I get to them, but I don't want to forget about this idea so I'm just posting my thoughts here.

That's cool! I've seen that before or similar. It's too bad the Simple Green didn't work better on your kits. Maybe it's just on water-based paints it's good? - MT

fixed that for you :D

I'm pleased it worked so well for you... my experiences with simple green and non-acrylic and/or old paint have been... less than successful than your effort.

Ive used Mr Muscle oven cleaner but as Anasazi says you get a lot of nasty fumes and mixed milage from it.

Car dot 4 brake fluid works also, but I have not done that so much as you have to submerge the parts and once done there are disposal issues, as its toxic, which where I live is a PITA as the local tip wont take it, and garages dont want it as its contaminated and the reclaimers dont like that.

Both  those methods usually require a fair but of scrubbing and after care.

Your method sounds much more appealing, thanks for sharing.

just gone onto Amazon and its £8.99 plus £4.30 postage to the UK for a 32oz bottle. Ouch.... now I know how the Auzzies feel buying Future floor polish.  Write ups on Amazon seem for the most part to be from model and miniature builders..LOL

but the aussies dont NEED to import Future... its sold locally as Long Life Floor Shine at Bunnings
