Joe Don Baker is my fraternity brother. That makes HIM even cooler.

You were in a frat? I guess that explains the doorknob thing.

Though I guess I would have expected goats being violated instead of harmless entry hardware. :p

I have trouble swallowing Joe Don Baker as Jack Wade, CIA agent... I still see him as Brad Witticer, arms dealer from The Living Daylights... HEY! that was Dolph Lundgren's first movie!

Dolph's was actual in View to a Kill. I think it's different guy in the living daylights.

Woah, I was majorly confused... That other guy is the same guy from Die Hard that I always thought was Dolph...

That guy should give Dolph his DNA back.

Do you call a Country a cha-cha?

Then don't call a Fraternity a frat... Thats like the N word to Fraternity guys. Anywho, there were no bizare entry hardware games in the Fraternity, lots of fun though.

Yeah, I guess thats true, though for me Hunt for Red October will always be the definitive Jack Ryan flick. Hey it even has our favorite Bond actor at the helm of a nuclear sub  :p

IMHO, Hunt for Red October was Connery's film. Ford was a strong supporting cast member as Jack. Think about the film, it really was focused on Captain Marko Ramius's story. It is my favorite Tom Clancy book-to-film adaption, but the definitive "Jack Ryan" film for me is Patriot Games. It's all him! :)

Did Paramount go back and digitally replaced Alec Baldwin's Jack Ryan with Harrison Ford in Hunt for Red October? :p

Ooops! hahahaha...I guess Baldwin and Ford look alike to me! :p

Even I missed that.

But I gotta say, the best espionage storyline currently is...

ALIAS.

I'd miss Jack Ryan and James Bond to watch Alias. Maybe they should let J.J. Abrams write and direct the next Bond. :D

Bah Alias was good till this season. Then it turned soap opera-ish. Hence why I quit watching. Plus I keep guessing correctly on what would happened. Annoyed my friend that because he and I watched season1 and 2 on dvd. He went ahead and watched it and then watched it again. He was getting pissed when I guessed correctly the outcome/conspiracy/etc.

Not only in that movie but in the movie The Substitute did he play the same part and as an added bonus his sidekick was the guy that played ding in Clear And Present Danger.

Nuts. That was pretty much Clark and Ding. Trapped in a urban, seedy, public school.

I was dissapointed that he never actually whipped out a piece and laid it menacingly on his teacher's desk, like the video cover showed. Was waiting for that scene the whole movie.

It's a shame that Brosnan was contracted to Remington Steele back in 85/86 when Moore finally dropped out and they were looking to him for the role.

They could have gotten so many more good Bond years out of him and he was in his prime then. Since Goldeneye, he has aged considerably and now looks rather ridiculous as Bond.

Dolph Lundgren has a master's degree in chemical engineering!

He's actually a genius playing a lunkhead in movies lol.

I dunno... but I read a pretty cool article about it on Hollywood Elsewhere the other day.

Inspired

Anybody wanna take bets that 007 franchise producer Michael Wilson will turn Quentin Tarantino down on his offer to direct Pierce Brosnan in a slightly lower-budgeted ($40 million) remake of CASINO ROYALE?

Everything you may not like about the Bond movies -- the formulaic repetitions, shallow wordplay, same old stunts and explosions, the here-we-go-again attitude....all of this is thought to be due, in large part, to the "creative" input of franchise caretaker Michael Wilson and partner Barbara Broccoli.

The family-related duo inherited control of the Bond films when Barbara's father, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, one of the founding fathers of the Bond franchise, died in 1996.

I once wrote a story for ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY called "Fresh Ideas for a Sagging Bond," based on ideas from producers and screenwriters that they believed might help reinvigorate the franchise. One of the suggestions, which EW editors threw out, was to somehow get rid of Wilson and Broccoli.

Wilson has reportedly called Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale" novel "unfilmable." A report says he plans to eventually use the title for a remake, but with an entirely new story.

But Tarantino, according to TORONTO SUN reporter/critic Bruce Kirkland, "thinks he has a solution to Pierce Brosnan's reluctance to return as James Bond -- a remake of CASINO ROYALE.

"There's a thin chance that might work out," Tarantino said in a recent interview to plug KILL BILL VOL. 2. He added that he's "talked to Pierce Brosnan about doing it."

Kirkland writes that Brosnan "seems to be out of the next 007 project," which is slated for release in 2005. "Brosnan has said his negotiations with the Bond producers are at 'an impasse' and that they are 'paralyzed' in planning for the next Bond.

The TORONTO SUN has reported that Brosnan's neighbor and friend, actor Michael Madsen, has said that Brosnan told him "he is finished with the series and also heard that the producers 'bought him out' and have an Australian actor to replace him."

Tarantino told Kirkland last weekend that "everyone involved should let him experiment with a cheaper, scaled-down, Bond movie that would rely on story and character, not special effects. His gamble could bring Brosnan back for a final fling.

"'I don't know that [the Bond producers] have anything to lose, at all,' Tarantino said. 'They've got this gigantic franchise. They can't do anything wrong with it. Pierce Brosnan's only going to do one more movie for them, if that.

"'So if he stayed on to do one more for me ..... Just this one year, let's go my way and do it a little different and I won't do anything that will ruin the series. You know it's going to make its money back, and we all do good and we win the critics this time.'"

Tarantino told Kirkland that "his $40-million project plan would give the Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli 'some leverage' with Brosnan and break the impasse.

"'My film won't cost $100 million. That's the thing -- they would have to want to do one differently and, after I did mine, they could go and do theirs again all right.'"

CASINO ROYALE was made into a grotesque and unfunny farce in 1967. David Niven played Sir James Bond -- a retired super-agent who gets drawn back into action. Peter Sellers played a 007-ish character named Evelyn Tremble, and Woody Allen played a comic bad guy called "Little Jimmy Bond."

Orson Welles, William Holden, Ursula Andress, John Huston, Charles Boyer and Jean-Paul Belmondo co-starred. And it really stunk. But Fleming's book wasn't a parody, and I'll bet Tarantino could make this new version work.

But I'm also betting that Wilson and Broccoli will put the kibbosh on Tarantino because to do so would mean they would have nothing to do with the making of it. They would be strictly financial sideline players, and from what I've always heard about them their egos won't allow this.

I hope I'm wrong, of course, and that Tarantino gets to do this. But I've always heard that Wilson-Broccoli are control freaks, and that they always insist on being right in the mix of every Bond flick in order to ensure they'll turn out as formula-driven (which in their minds means as safely and profitably) as possible.

I don't think they have the character or the imagination to give Tarantino the reins, free and clear. But who knows? Maybe Wilson will wake up some day like Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas morning, gripping the bedpost and saying over and over again, "I'm not the man I was, I'm not the man I was...."

I thought it summed up all the problems with Bond pretty well.

Love him or hate him, I think Tarantino has the right idea for how to breathe life into the franchise.

As far as "The Austrailian guy" who knows... but it certainly sounds as if they're threatening to replace him with the oft-rumored Hugh Jackman.

Or possibly Paul Hogan, in a bizarre turn of events. :p

I'm asking because last week there was a lot of hooplah concerning Britney Spears demanding to be a Bond girl and that Brosnan said that it wouldn't work. He said he rather have Keira Knightley or Monica Bellucci as the next Bond girl. But if you do a search for those articles, it seemed that they have all been deleted from most of the entertainment sites. <_<

I was kinda ready for one last Brosnan Bond film. :(

I saw those articles last week. Tarantino wanting to film a Bond movie I've heard several years before. But truthfully, Casino Royale would NOT be a great movie, if adapted faithfully. Sure, there's some great characterisation, but there is ZERO action. Bond plays bacarat for the entire book, then crashes his car and has his balls tortured before being "rescued" by an agent of SMERSH.

Adding fuel to the fire, Dark Horizons is reporting that Heath Ledger is the new "maybe" to replace Brosnan. Ugh, this just gets better and better.

Ledger??? I like Heath Ledger but not as Bond. I'd rather see sissy boy, Everett like Ladic suggested.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

Here's the article:

James Bond rumours online are like people in Hollywood who've spoken with Bruckheimer, Del Toro, Tarantino, etc. for like 20 seconds at a party and think they've got a three-picture studio deal signed & sealed. In other words, they're all over the place, new ones emerge every other day and in practically every case it's total bullsh*t in sad tragic kind of way.

Still, just when you thought that the Orlando Bloom 007 rumours were horrible, they've just laid the groundwork for a whole bunch of speculation about a 'young new James Bond' to reinvigorate the franchise. As a result, a bunch of suggestions have come up that will make every fan of the series shudder in fear (thankfully it hasn't gotten to Freddie Prinze Jr. levels yet).

The rumour that's got the most cred right now though is that an Australian will step into the role after Michael Madsen's comments earlier this week to the Toronto Sun which seemed to indicate that the role has already been selected and he was told who but couldn't recall the name - "I don't know the new Bond guy. I've never seen anything he's done. I don't even know what he looks like. I can't remember the guy's name. I would have to feel like he's going to be a good Bond for me to want to do it".

Thus the most obvious talk is of course Hugh Jackman who is the fan favourite for the role right now as he's got the looks, charm, action/fighting cred and can play up the dark side (the only trouble I can see is the guy is too damn nice to be playing cinema's most famous misogynist). Another name suggested is "Hulk"/"Troy" star Eric Bana who, whilst not having Jackman's wide appeal, can arguably more convincingly pull off the character's darker elements.

The one candidate which suddenly emerged a few hours ago though has come as a shock - none other than 25-year old ex-blond youngster Heath Ledger. MI6 reports that according to one of their sources - "Heath Ledger. That's the name. Remember it. Even the big money men, who have their fingers on the pulse as well as their wallets, back this one. Eon want to go in a new direction with 007, a younger Bond for a younger audience, claim the suits".

As much as Ledger has shown good acting ability, if the rumour has any truth it's a bad choice - he's no credibility in the part of a retired naval commander turned super MI6 agent (aside from looking somewhat shaggable in a tux), whilst his track record of late ("The Order", "The Four Feathers", "Ned Kelly") has proven terrible even though the guy has got some interesting upcoming projects.

Thanks to 'Vipul'.

I think Casino Royale could be a good Bond film... not necessarily by adapting it faithfully, but by adapting it well. And Tarantino seems to think he can do it. I, for one, would be much more interested to see him try than let the producers continue to vacuum out the franchise of any soul whatsoever.

Even all this talk about what lucky girl gets to be the next Bond girl bugs me. I think it would work far, far better if the girls were nameless, exotic, gorgeous unknowns who couldn't act their way out of a 3rd grade play as a shrub.

Worked for Connery. Works for me.

I completely agree. None of the orig. Bond girls were known beforehand.

The problem has to do with the fact that chicks in movies just can't stand there, get nailed and look cute anymore... They need to by more dynamic, at least to capture a female audience. Women are liberated now, Bond movies need to reflect that.

I personally prefer the chicks to be stupid, but I also work in marketing so I see the need to not make them stupid.

Bah. Since when were Bond movies made for women?

Quit thinking like you're in marketing. Truly independent women should appreciate Bond for the masochistic bastard he is or stick to watching Ashley Judd catch uninteresting serial killers.

My personal fave is in Thunderball when Felix shows up as James is getting a massage poolside. Bond turns to the girl, slaps her on her bottom, and says, "Run along now. Man talk."

Awesome.

Truthfully, I think the name casting of Bond girls has far, far less to do with women's lib, but rather a desire on the part of the producers to add something with sell-a-bility to the marquee. Otherwise they'd just have to sell the movie on the story and visuals. Which have been uninventive for years. It's much much easier to throw a few million at a known "hot chick actress", market it in Maxim, and count on her appeal to help sell tickets.

I'm not saying I agree with it... I am just guessing what is going on in Miss. Bracholi's mind.

Brosnan definitely seems like he wants a change or just wants to get out. Of course his new movie's getting terrible reviews... if it tanks at the Box Office, I'll bet he'll seem alot more game to be the Broccoli's boy.

I think it's cool that he's willing to back QT's idea in the press, though. If I was him, I'd wish I were in better Bond movies too.

From imdb.com

007 Brosnan Gives Quentin's Bond Dreams a Boost

Pierce Brosnan is offering his support to Quentin Tarantino as the Pulp Fiction director bids to take over the James Bond franchise. Tarantino is an unlikely favorite to take charge of the next Bond film after making his love of 007 known to the series's producers. And, after meeting with the maverick director, Brosnan insists Tarantino would be a perfect choice to direct Casino Royale, which was filmed as an unofficial Bond spoof starring David Niven in 1967. He says, "Quentin and I met and he is a huge Bond fan. He wants to remake Casino Royale. I don't know if it's ever going to happen. What Tarantino would bring to the film is life, and just a great sense of excitement and danger, and the perspective of a film-maker who has really made people sit up and watch his movies. He's got a cutting edge, which we got with the last Bond film, Die Another Day - with Lee Tamahori's sense of flair. Someone like Quentin would be magnificent."

Brosnan is kidding himself if he thinks he has a career outside of Bond. Who does he think he is? Connery? Does anyone remember any of his non Bond/non Remington role?

IMDB news today reports "Pierce Brosnan will play suave superspy James Bond again - after patching up his feud with the Broccoli family."

"[brosnan], who had publicly slammed the Broccoli's for delaying the project - is still their number one choice for Bond."
