Wow! I didn't realize Hasegawa's smaller size was so great. They're not gonna mingle too well in diorama format without some forced perspective intended..

PLAMAX & Hasegawa

Interesting to see them side by side. I like the Plamax better as far as looks and pose, but I think the real win is when they put the Plamax armored Valkyrie next to the ugly hasegawa one.

a lot of the height looks due to the tiny hasegawa feet. The dual cannons are also quite a bit shorter giving it an even shorter appearance

I like the PLAMAX. I do. It's got that nostalgic anime feel.

But I also notice some things I don't like.

The jet intake/vent area looks really short and stubby. Doesn't look like how it would look in fighter mode. IMHO.

The arm armor pieces go really high up, pretty much to the top of the shoulders. I don't think other versions look like that. And I don't think the lineart looks like that. Hasegawa's are shorter and I think I prefer that.

The gigantic hands which just really don't look like they'd fit into the arms easily.

Just some small nitpicks.

I do like the bigger feet.

I mean even the head lasers are taller and basically everything else. The feet next to the Plamax do look diminutive but i never felt that the feet were an issue with Hasegawa before.

Also, the arm armor goes very far up to like the shoulder, which i'm not sure follows the line art either. Either way, it look like it really dominates the arm on the Plamax.

Everything from line art and anime can vary rather widely. Here’s a few line art pics and they’re pretty different from each otherIMG_3517.jpeg.c1cd5954565d4d3ce7af916d37768170.jpegIMG_3518.jpeg.ed54c9123880f505c75a891b64573515.jpegIMG_3519.jpeg.10dcf2290e8cd10aebf1a9184a62faee.jpegdefinitely bigger feet and usually shorter intakes, but I’ve seen contradictory line art showing longer intakes. The dual cannon is usually huge in battroid, but when shown straight up or in fighter, they end up shorter. Some images have shorter arm armor and others up to the shoulders. They probably would be longer for fighter mode transformation, but again the artwork is a bit all over the place.

these were just a few quick images, but trust me, they’re pretty wildly all over the place

Here’s another odd line art pic where it’s kinda between the two. The intake looks more like the hasegawa, but then the arm armor is much longer up to the shoulderIMG_3520.jpeg.9e37a60e52ecc6ebb6225cee9335d39e.jpeg

Armor up to the shoulder is one thing. Armor up to the TOP of the shoulder is a little different.

Anyways, I just know I like a battroid that looks like actual pieces of the fighter, and convincingly looks like it COULD turn back into a fighter if it wanted to.

Some battroids are so changed and anime-ish that if you chopped up the pieces and re-assembled into a fighter, you just know it would look hilarious. With a stubby nose, tiny wings, etc.

That would be a fun project case study. I have a few Hasegawa battroid kits in the stash. Maybe I turn one into a fighter? I like this idea. 👍

I did a lot of the old Arii 1/100 fighters/gerwalks/battroids back in the late 80s/early 90s. Even back then as a young fellow, I was troubled by the differences in proportions between the modes. Nose cones being different shapes, chonky battroid legs compared to sleek fighter legs, etc.
