HWR MKII
Well in lieu of my super ostrich turning into a much better project than i had imagined im going to work on the next one i had in line. A pre haasegawa VE-1 Elintseeker. Same company and the main fuselage is from the same molds. So i had to fill in the un needed color demarcation line that was present for the SO version. Next will be rescribing similar to what i did on the ostrich. Hopefully paint by tomorrow night.
Valkyrie addict
you're doing 3 models at the same time...no wonder you're going slower than you use to...
HWR MKII
Well that and the board seems to be flooded with VF-25s (including mine) so i thought id put up some VF-1 love. Show the new guys that just found macross from frontier what elses is out there. The VT-1 would have been done by now but is on hold for some much appreciated things which will really enhance its look. Valkyrie addict
you can add that this are by now very resin kits... and you're right, there's been a flood of VF-25's or the model section is just dead...nice to see it brought back to live
HWR MKII
Im trying to do what i can. These VF-1s are just the projects i need. Quick to do yet still very attractive models when done. Well back to the bunker to work on the elint.

Hey, can you either do some comparison shots, or a comparison to the Hase Elintseeker? I'm dying to know which is better.
HWR MKII
If you had asked me 2 years ago i could have alas my 2 hasegawa Elints suffered a slow death at the hands of military hired moving companies. But overall it depends on what your idea of better is. The hasegawa kits have a more realistic tone and feel to them while these kits are more on screen correct. they are both good models in their own way though and capture the look of the craft. big F
I feel your pain. My mom was in the military, and when we moved one time, half my Transformers got destroyed. Some times I think it would be easier if you just destroyed them before the move this saving the moving guys the bother. You know you pay extra for crushed and broken stuff. On the pluss side more HWR stuff to watch comming to life.
promethuem5
I'll follow this one as well, I lvoe to see resin kits built up. Have you thought about paint at all? Going for the classic Elint look, or something else?
HWR MKII
Right now im going classic but there are 2 schemes to consider. One overall aircraft grey for the fuselage and the other with an orange nose.
HWR MKII
Got the wing root seams cleaned up and the upper fuselage scribed with more details. Base coat of aircraft grey is on it too. The scribing turned out really well i think. Next up ill hit up the fast packs and boosters. start getting the dish and other parts ready to go . promethuem5
I can't decide which lines you scribed, so I'd say they worked well... what did you use?
HWR MKII
I can't decide which lines you scribed, so I'd say they worked well... what did you use? Hasegawa tritool scribing tools and templates. All the lines on the back of the fuselage were rescribed and the fowler flaps on top of the wings. ahead of the main flaps. HWR MKII
I started applying the greys to the boosters and fast packs last night. Ill post some shots tonight after work.
Lt. Z0mBe
Love the VE-1, Sean. It will look sweet all low-vizzed out in greys. Kenny
HWR MKII
I was thinking of actually making a mask from frisket film for the UN Spacy kites since i cant find my low vis decals for it. Also the markings for the boosters are high vis.
HWR MKII
Heres the days progress. Going with the orange nose on this. It adds a splash of color to an otherwise drab looking all grey model. The orange will be carried into the boosters with the open eye marking as well. Next will be a coat of future on the darker grey parts, decals and a wash. Theres a couple small touch ups before then but overall its ready. promethuem5
Looks great, but you already knew that I agree that the orange nosecone and details do break up the monotonous greys nicely.
Berttt
Your really speeding along on this one Sean Just a quick thought on the design: While I love the VE-1 (who doesn't love an airplane with heaps of crap hanging off it) what is the need for a variable AWACS?? It's really an Elint bird. But, the point's still valid. I figure it's due to it being cheaper to retrofit existing designs than design an all-new one from the ground up. But, I'm not exactly a Macross expert - I just like the pretty aerospace fighters. Kenny

I dunno either. Its seen for all of about 3 seconds of screen time in DYRL. Its just a cool looking bird though. But it does make some sense. While at saturn the Macross was hidden in the rings so its sensors would have been clouded. The Elint was probably at a higher orbit clear of the debris and had its jamming going to avoid detection. This way it could see for the macross and other fighter craft and give them direction. Quite the same as how we use the E-3 these days to do the same thing. Kenny Rather like the US Navy making an electronic warfare "growler" out of the F/A-18. Since it is the same airframe it can keep up with the strike package and carry ordinance in an emergency. Macross was being rather prophetic.
HWR MKII
Thanks for the interest so far guys. I hope to get some future and decals worked out tonight for it. Keep your eyes peeled.
Valkyrie addict
woa, and you said you were going to take your time building this kits just stunning looking man and best of all, it's brushed!! I could never brush so neatly like that, very impressive, can't wait to see this finish
splatcat
Those pictures look great! I look forward to seeing more as you progress. My own VE-1 is one of my favorite models. I can see some uses for a variable awacs. For one thing, can keep up with the rest of the planes or hang back depending on the mission. The thing that I always liked though was that in gerwalk or battroid it can become an instant radar base anywhere where it is needed. HWR MKII
Been a while but this one is not dead either. I hadnt posted anything on it since i did the clear coat and began decals. This is where the elint stands now. Not too much left to do really. Lets see if i can mane this one a weekender..
