i'm a big fan of macross 7 mecha, particularly the uraga escort-carriers and the battle-7. does anyone have ANY nice screenshots/lineart of them? it would be much appreciated. i'm sick of looking these up and just seeing small lineart, hoping someone has something real awesome to share.

I have a whole monkey butt of pictures here, just click on them, not huge sized pictures but decently sized.

I love your site. I'm a big fan of macross lineart, and that's one of the best collections I've ever seen.

2 questions, though: are there any larger pics of Battle13? It looks soooo much cooler than Battle7 - I think its the shoulders that give it a more impressive silhouette.

And also, was there ever a pic of Battle5 in attacker mode? Wouldn't be too hard to alter a Battle7 pic, but I think the Zentraedi styling would make for a pretty cool attacker.

Thanks, Kelsain.

Those are the largest ones in the book, although I think I still have the scanned images which were done at 600 dpi res, I can check and see if you want?

Nope, no pics of Battle 5 in attacker mode, although if I could ever find a decent artist I would see if they could do one.

Ooh, High Res! With those, I might take a stab at Battle5. Might be a nice little distraction, even though I have much more important things I should be doing...

PMing!

Or you could just post it here, whatever...

Battle 5 is essentially the same as Battle 7 with the exception of the Zentreadi-centric design elements.

I don't recall Battle 13, what is that from?

Anyway, Bris you mention multiple Battle 7 type carriers in any given fleet on your site, when actually there is only one. The rest are CVS or ARMD type carriers which are considerably smaller ships than the Macross Battle class cruisers.

Yes that series had to be Miyatake Kazutaka's best work so far!

Actually there were two Battle 7's the original which was destroyed at the end of the Varauta war and then the new one which we see being built during Dynamite.

As for the other colony fleets look at the pic here and you will see that there are several Battles and one picture of mine I can't find at the moment shows and earlier fleet with multiple battles as well.

I actually need to check my dates a little to adjust fleet sizes but some fleets do have multiple Battles.

I don't recall Battle 7 getting destroyed in Mac 7, but Battle 5 was and so was the Stargazer Stealth Frigate.

An emigration fleet consists of 1 City Class (New Macross Class) ship and various other ships with specific functions, Begin Hill Class, Riviera Class, Mark Twain Class, etc... each with a corresponding CVS, ARMD or Stealth Cruiser attached. Only the City Class (New Macross Class) ship gets a Battle Carrier attached to it and there is only one per fleet.

The bottom picture looks like a shipyard where the City Class (New Macross Class) ships are being built. Each will then be set up with a fleet of other ships to go on their journey into the galaxy.

Not all emmigration fleets consist of only one New Macross Class ship - the 5th fleet in Macross 7 proves this! The bottom picture is, if I remember correctly, when the 5th New Macross colonization fleet landed on planet Rax. All three pictures in the set are from the same episode.

I think the 1 colony ship per fleet is a fallicy propogated by those that haven't seen the series...

It was pretty much finished in the last episode. Both arms were blown off and also was centrally pretty badly damaged. Everyone evacuated.

I got the impression that it was severely damaged, but the structure was still salvageable. We see in Dynamite7 that Battle7 is under construction, but the scaffolding appeared to only be on the bow (arms), cannon, and bridge. These are the areas shown getting wasted on Varuta4. There never was a giant explosion that one might expect if it was totally destroyed. Come to think of it, the 'end' of Battle7 was quite reminiscent to the 'end' of the Macross itself...

I'm not sure about some fleets having more than 1 New Macross. If the M5 fleet had 3, why call it the Macross 5 fleet? It definately looks like they have a few City class ships, though. It's too distant to really tell, but I figured those were Uragas docked with them. They have a similar silhouette and that would be consistent with what we see in the M7 fleet. What throws it off, of course, is the towers on the docking port. Again, those are on the City block.

Then again, there's no way there might be an error in animation, is there?

Hey that could well be a possibility. Would have been a total biatch to get it back into space though.

As anally as it sounds I measured the lengths out, all of them appear to be Battle, as for the Battle 7 to me it appeared to be destroyed, plus there is the fact that we don't know actually how long it would take to build a Battle section especially since they are using Battroid mode Valks to do the work instead of having just a bunch of people swarming all over it.

GASP! Maybe the birdman did it!!!

Sorry, sorry, couldn't help it.

Seriously, though, maybe the antigrav and power systems still worked. Maybe they rigged some of of those handy power tubes from some other ships. Or, if I recall, didn't Gepelnitch fold City7 into the planet's atmosphere? Maybe they docked and then City7 did the work of returning to orbit.

 I have done that before... It'd be interesitng to see if that exact silhouette was used elwhere in the series though, I still suspect animation shortcuts. I'd also like to take another look at the wreckage on the lake - perhaps there are more answers there.

I'd have to rewatch the episode, it's been a few months since I saw it - maybe there was a big boom. And with lessons learned from the factory satellite, maybe they could throw one together pretty quickly. On that note, there's really no indication of how much time passes between M7 & D7.

Very true on the time passage thing, but if it took major damage as well it may have been quicker to just replace the whole ship and scrap what was left. It also never said if they recovered the Riviera 7 either.

It's been awhile since I watched M7 at all, that's the bad thing about 12-hour works shifts, ugh.

Maybe I'll get to watch it here soon hopefully, need to finish watching the new SDF Macross DVD's first though, big difference between the butchered version and it that's for sure.

Yeah I am getting that feeling too...

Well the crappier the dub of the original is, the less likely it will compete with Robowreck....

Nope! Just looked, definately a big boom in the background. Shows how good my memory is. So the New Macross in Dynamite is definately new construction. Would it get a new number? or 07-A like in Star Trek?

This book has line art of the ships your looking for. Desig ascpects etc. It also has the sdf-1 and the armed ships as well.

BOTH have images of the Battle 7.

The former contains smaller images, and the design process.

The latter contains larger images, and slightly more of them.

If you are looking for a sample of all of Kazutaka Miyatake's work, than the former is recommended (it contains stuff from SDF:M, DYRL, M+, M7, M7 Dynamite, SDF:M DYRL, VF-X, VF-X2, and Orguss.)

If you are only looking for material from the first 1/2 to 3/4 of M7, the latter is recommended.
