Majestic
I'm trying to track down some Mr. Surfacer 1000 (in bottle/liquid form, not the spray) for priming. Anybody know of a decent online site to order from? Will I only be able to find it overseas? EDIT: Oops, put this in the wrong forum, my apologies. Can be moved at moderator's discretion. TheFrenchOne
even overseas it is not that easy http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?GNZSF-
Majestic
Man, that's terrible. Nobody has a domestic supplier either? How about a good alternative?
Skull Leader
I taught myself early on not to use Mr. Surfacer... It's damn hard to come by, even if it isn't that expensive. It's just not worth the hassle to me, there are enough other alternatives out there to make Mr. Surfacer a write-off...
David Hingtgen
Bottles are big, last a while IMHO. Nobody ALWAYS has it in stock, I recommend checking these places: www.scalehobby.com www.greatmodels.com
Skull Leader
David makes a valid point... the bottles are certainly large for the cost. You'll get mileage out of it.

Majestic
Thanks. I'm hoping the ones that claim to carry it actually have it in stock. I'll try ordering by phone tomorrow.

Majestic
Thanks for the referrals, successfully ordered it by phone at Rollmodels.com. They said the stuff sells like hotcakes. (and you know how well hotcakes sell). Does anybody know the best way to thin this stuff for airbrushing? Can I just use Tamiya thinner? David Hingtgen
Maybe, but lacquer thinner or Mr.Color thinner is better AFAIK. Mr Surfacer is basically like heavily thinned Tamiya putty.
Less than Super Ostrich
I cannot stand by while you disparage the holy name of Mr. Surfacer. I have a shrine built to my 500 and 1000 Mr. Surfacer bottles in my workshop. All hail Mr. Surfacer. Seriously though. I have a couple bottles each of Mr. Surfacer and expect that these will last me forever. The stuff is great for those tiny seams... particularly when you are putting two fuselage halves together. Master wm cheng turned me on to this stuff... it is great. Its NOT like thinned Tamiya putty like the above post states... rather it is like a thick primer... in fact it IS a very thick primer. Don't use it like a putty to fill up large gaps... it is meant for little seams and cracks.
Highside
Best1hobby.com has a list of Gunze Sangyo Mr. line of products http://www.best1hobby.com/html/gunze/tool.html . I like to use Mr.Surfacer as well, but use the spray cans instead. I order them in batches from Rainbowten.
David Hingtgen
Keeping my tube of Tamiya putty next to my bottle of Mr Surfacer 500, I stand by my claim they are similar. (yes, I'm aware topic is for 1000, not 500)
