Further proof that you cannot please everyone. I think it looks fantastic.

I'm not seeing any serious proportion issues. Looks incredible to me, though somewhat floppy looking in both modes. I'd wager that's just an issue with the prototype, and the finished product will be solid.

I didn't know he was out. Is Mirage out?

Er, Sony announced the launch date. November 17th for N. America, this year.

Well, Metal Slug inspired here's a mech design for my web and print comics: -

I'm going to have to bring a floppy with me next time I go to work. They don't have Photoshop on the computers there, and won't let us bring in laptops, and I work the overniht shift where there's lots of free time...so I've been making lots of little MS Paint pictures to put as the desktop images there. Mostly Metal Slug inspired. -
Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells.

I think I could manage. http://steampowered.net/03-25-06.html -
I need to see that show again sometime. I used to watch it all the time when Sci-Fi started showing it.

The newer GBA or the DS?

Managed to nab it last night. Having a blast, but it hasn't managed to completely wrangle my attention away from Final Fantasy IV. Then again, I'm at a particularly good point in that game, and it is my favourite in the FF franchise. Still, yeah, digging it quite a bit. I wish they'd brought back the suits from SMB3, but that's about my only complaint.

Since when is anything we do in this forum really important?

Alright, given that E3 has come and gone, and we now know a lot more about the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii, should we start a new thread, or is it possible to restart the poll in this thread, or what?

Eh, again the guy makes some points, and makes some comments that seem to contradict even a basic understanding of reality. I do believe the basic premise is correct, you can improve the graphics all you like, but if you don't present new gameplay people will eventually get bored. Nintendo seems to be the only major company honestly considering this possibility, and that seems to have proven a gold mine to them if sales of the DS, and their showing at E3 say anything. As for me, do I find myself gaming less than I did in my younger days? Yes and no. I game very little at home nowadays, my Gamecube collects dust, except when I have a bunch of people over for gaming. The fact that it has so many multiplayer and party games is really what makes it the only current gen console worth getting for me. However, I've been gaming out of the house pretty regularly for years now. Never so much as after the Nintendo DS finally started getting a solid library about a year ago. These days, my DS goes with me wherever I go. On the bus, at work (it's good to be the supervisor), at Denny's, at the drive-in when the crappy romantic comedy comes on, waiting in line at the bank, at the store, and most certainly on those rare occaissions I make it out to conventions. Whether I'm in the mood for good oldschool gaming fun like Castlevania or Mario, or when I'm looking for something new like Trauma Centre or Animal Crossing, there is plenty on the DS to keep me more excited about games than I've been since the NES, Genesis, and SNES days. Out of the next gen consoles, pretty graphics just don't do it for me anymore. I'd almost certainly skip out on them all if that was all this coming generation offered, but Nintendo's machine looks fun. Also, not because I dislike Sony, but it would be nice to see them lose their top dog position for at least a generation, a more level playing field would generate more competition and more incentive to improve gaming between all the major console developers. My biggest hope right now is that the Wii does well enough to convince both Microsoft and Sony to adopt a similar approach to gaming with whatever machines follow this new generation, and that we'll see even more improvements in that direction. Maybe even see the ghost of the Virtual Boy put to rest and forgotten long enough for a decent VR console to see the light of day.

No. The $500 PS3 has no WiFi, the HDMI support, and one or two other things gimped. I posted a link a page or three back.

I'm so incredibly giddy right now.

Some of their arguments are ridiculous, some are spot on. At times they asked for more challenging games, with better AI to take advantage of the horsepower beneath the hood of the new systems. At other times they whinged about games not handing out unlimited ammo. It's too bad their rant against brand loyalty is marred by aiming most of their bile against one company's fan base. They are quite right that such loyalty is often misplaced, and harmful to the industry as a whole.
-
I wouldn't take that quote at face value, it seems to me that Nintendo is listening to their fans and the hardcore gaming base, but they are not basing their decisions soley on what those groups are saying. They are deciding when to listen, and when to go their own way. That's smart, if you ask me. Time and again I've been dissapointed to see a great machine, or a great game become totally gimped because of nonsensical "hardcore gamer" outrage. Video games are a technology dependant industry , and yet when it comes to anything except graphics power most "hardcore" gamers are complete and utter technophobes who fear any sort of change.

Starfox Armada did have ground missions, but they did not make up the majority of the game, nor were there any RPG or Adventure elements to them, at least as far as I saw.

While the software video is nice, the most impressive thing I've seen is the E3 video of people actually playing these games, which confirmed the most optimistic impressions I'd gotten from reading the descriptions of the closed door demos given to the press way back when, as well as the descriptions of all the until yesterday unknown abilities of the Wii controller.

Anyone else see the "Classic Controller" shown on Nintendo's Japanese site? http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2006/wii/...oto_classic.jpg

Shown briefly at Nintendo's E3 conference, Starfox DS. Also, live voice chat for the new Tony Hawk game for the DS. I'm not a Tony Hawk fan myself, but it's likely to pop up in other games eventually. So DS gamers can finally get the childish namecalling and racial slurs PC and Xbox Live gamers have been enjoying for years!

I'm thinking after this E3 (not now, wait until we've seen everything) there should be a new poll. I mean, I've gone from piqued curioisity over the Revolution, to "I'm buying a Wii the day it launches" already, and tomorrow there will be 27 games playable at the convention. I must also admit that I never expected the PS3 to launch at $600 (besides the hard drive, read back a page or two to see what else has been gimped on the $500 version, like the 360 Core system it does not seem worth getting). I expected $450, or for them to take the price hit and match the 360's price. But man, the second motion sensor in the analogue attachment, and the video footage of people playing Zelda and Red Steel. The speaker and rumble features in the controller. Even that Tennis game looked like fun. They're not slouching in the DS department, either. Starfox DS? Sign me up! I'm looking forward to seeing what Microsoft shows. This E3 is just full of surprises.
