You misunderstand me, Gaijin. I don't think that Sony is a terrible evil company, while Nintendo and Microsoft are all flowers and unicorns, I just think that Sony is top dog right now, and they've fallen very much into the "lazy and egotistical" mindset that most top companies fall into. Nintendo did it. Microsoft is known for it in the PC world. That's why compeition is good. The lazy and egotistical company falls from the good graces of the mass market to be replaced by someone actually trying to be competitive. Also, if you didn't fall for the pre-launch PS2 hype, good for you. Lots of fanboys did. So much so, that a year later when the Xbox and Gamecube were coming out, people were skeptical on the Xbox outperforming the PS2, and outright adamant that the Gamecube couldn't come close to either console. Of course, it soon became clear that the Xbox was powerful hardware, though people didn't realize that the Gamecube pushed better graphics than the PS2 until sometime after it had launched. I don't believe that. Not if Sony or Microsoft did as Nintendo has, shown that it works, and works well, and really pushed it as the system's primary controller. At least, they'd get the same critical praise, it remains to be seen how well Nintendo's strategy will work on the mass market. Odds look good for them, but if anything I imagine if Sony did it they'd be even more of a success with it just because they're so popular right now. As for 'Gamecube 1.5', while it's true that the Wii does not pack the graphical punch of the other consoles, there is still a very noticible jump in the graphics quality. Combined with screenshots of games for the 360 and PS3 not looking quite as good as the demos and trailers, I'm wondering just how wide the visual gap is going to actually be. Of course, you were wuite right in one of your previous posts, how the average joe can't tell the difference in graphics.

I think this sums up the Wolverine/Cyclops thing pretty well: http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20060605.html -
Sony insinuated that the PS2 would be able to produce graphics on the same level as the Final Fantasy movie. If that's not misleading, I don't know what is. Faked demos on beefed up hardware come to mind. FMV passed off as in-game footage. Sony has a reputation these days. But still, a $600 price tag will mean the PS3 will likely not enjoy the immeadiate market saturation of the PSX and PS2. And if people hold off long enough for Sony to drop the price, developers will see this and begin developing more for other consoles, and possibly less for the PS3. Right now the Sony is relying on two main factors. Their graphics, and brand loyalty. History has shown that neither are completely reliable for sales. I'm not saying that Sony corporate headquarters is going to sink into the ocean a few days after a dismal PS3 launch, but I do not share the optimism in the idea that Sony will remain the undisputed console king simply because of the success of their last two consoles. If the top dog always remained the top dog simply because they were the top dog, we'd all still be playing Atari consoles.

I don't really see how the X-Men movies are a 'saga' or a single story arch. Other than some basic continuity, they're really quite episodic. Heck, the third movie doesn't even retain any semblance of character continuity, as I've griped about all through this thread. -
...it had the largest library due to rabid marketing, and an easily mislead market. It survived on hype alone even after the release of the Gamecube and Xbox, but since it already had such an install base, developer support stuck with it, giving it an unrivaled gaming library even in the face of superior hardware on all sides. What's all that have to do with an unreleased system with no gaming library to speak of yet? I do agree that this article seems questionable, though. For what Sony is asking, pricewise, I have little doubt that the PS3 will be able to produce better graphics than the 360, even if the games wind up not looking quite so good as the demos. Especially since I'm not willing to pay what Sony wants for the PS3, I'm more than willing to wait and see how things turn out when the system and games actually arrive.

But he becomes comically, nonsensically evil. He might as well spent the movie carrying a basket of kittens, pulling them out one by one to crush whenever he needed to emphasize how evil he was. Not that bad? It was like he was PMSing throughout the entire movie. He'd go from being typical, serene and in control Professor X, to, "B***H! I do what I want!" Not only that, but major parts of the plot hinged entirely on Xavier's being completely out of character. This is the very model of bad writing. -
Just how reliable is this news source, though?

What Os/browser Do You Use To Vist Macross World?
Radd replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I use Firefox, but to be quite honest I like it about the same as Opera. There's a couple things I like about Opera more, a couple I like about Firefox more. Either way, I've found both browsers to be quite suitable for my needs. I also use Windows XP for my regular internet use. I also have a Mac, but it's connected to my television and acts as an entertainment centre for the most part. I sometimes web browse from that computer, but only when I have company over and I'm showing things to people. Things like, Dr. Tran! -

I have no military background, and I thought Magneto's "tactics" in the new movie were pretty terrible. "Yes, the pawns go first. HaHA! Look how evil I am, sending my own kind to the slaughter with nary a reason!" Of course, that still didn't top Professor X. Wolverine, "What!? You've been basically keeping her under mind control all this time? How can you do something that goes against everything the first two movies established that you stand for?" Prof. Xavier, "I'm Professor X, B**CH! I do what I want! WOOOOOOO!" Later, after Jean wakes up entirely on her own and attacks Wolverine, Professor X stumbles in drunk, "Wolverine! What have you done!" Wolverine, "Hey, aren't you supposed to be psychic, or at least somewhat intelligent? I did jack squat!" Prof. Xavier, "B**CH! Don't be dissing Professor X! I'll **** you up!" -
Er, expect the DS Lite to be much larger than the Micro. It'll still be larger than a GBA SP. It's somewhat smaller on all sides, and more streamlined looking, than the original DS. There are comparision shots between the DS and Lite on various websites. I think it was IGN that had a rollover comparison. Move your mouse over the image and it superimposed a Lite over the DS.

I hope it's an Alternators design, it looks so much better than Classics Megatron it would be a crime if they discarded it in favour of what we're getting. Megatron as a tank, in scale (robot mode) with MP Convoy would be fantastic.

There's a very good reason why the camera angle and her pose was so weird... she's barely recognizable as the hottie she once was. Proof here 404243 Maybe it's just me, but I actually think she looks a little better. 404248 Prepare the Cosmopolitan mindbeams! Seriously, she doesn't look anorexic anymore. She definitely looks better. -

Again, I never compare the movies to the comics. Two different beasts, I don't mind changes like Jauggernaut being a mutant, or the leather outfits instead of spandex (in fact, I prefere the movie costumes), and I don't even read many X-Men comics, so I don't care if the movies follow those stories. The flaws I percieve in X3 are mainly that the plot itself relies heavily on characters acting entirely out of character as they've been established in the first two movies. Xavier, especially. Of course, Magneto's "gotta do evil" moments were also pretty lame. The whole Phoenix thing also had terrible build up and a lacking resolution (not that I expect it's completely finished, but what's been done so far seems like it could have been done much better). -
What's that have to do with the price of eggs?

Appleseed is getting a sequel. This is why we can't have good things in this world. Is there anything that suggests the picture shown on that website is an example of the actual art quality from this sequel? Seems like promotional art, to me.

Once again, though, it has giant freakin' lasers on the sides. For all the "realistic" gimmicks it has, it looks like a real F-15 only a bit more than MP Convoy looks like a real truck. I figure Kawamori gave in to his inner jet fighter geek as much as he could while sticking to the limitations of makign a Starscream toy. Who knows? Maybe he wanted to make more accurate thrust nozzles, but Tak-Has made him keep the nozzles similar to Starscream's.

Well, F-15s also don't have giant freaking laser cannons attached to their sides. I'd say this is somewhat different than swapping parts on real world jets.

Oh, I was entertained, just not as the movie's creators probably intended. It certainly wasn't $10 worth of entertainment. See it at a matinee, or better yet the cheap theatres. -
Wow, it's like half the people in this thread lack a sense of humour. I saw this like a week or two ago, thought it was hilarious. Very well made satire on video games gone movie. I also love the "It's some kind of man....some kind of PAC man." line.

X-men 3 Pics: Beast And Angel Revealed
Radd replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Finally saw it last night. To me it was easily the worst of the three movies. My major gripe being that the plot relies heavily on major characters acting completely out of their established personalities (specifically, Xavier, though Magneto had moments where they thought, "You know, Magneto just isn't evil enough. Maybe we should have him kill some puppies? No, wait! I know!"). Almost none of the major characters are likeable, out of the major cast it seems like only Beast and Wolverine don't do anything in the movie just to piss someone else off. It seems like every (poorly set up) major event in this movie could easily be undone, and in fact is shown to already be coming undone before the credits even start rolling. After the credits all they do is show the movie's events being further undone. This was a particularly forgettable installment, and I'd be happy to see the next movie ignore it's occurance as much as possible. -
I really like the classics line so far, but comparing them to the Alternators is being generous. I really wish the Alternators line had gotten the variety this line seems to be getting.

The G2 tank magatron design was actually very nice (thought the toys were chunky and pretty bad). It also remained pretty true to his original G1 robot mode, just moving his big gun from his forearm to his shoulder. I imagine it could not be too difficult to do a modern version of Megatron as a tank which kept his G1-ish robot mode and made it so the gun could move to his shoulder without being removed and reattached, or that if you preferred you could move it to his forearm to give him even more of a G1 look. I'm not too keen on his new look, with the right colours it would be alright, but nothing to get really excited about. Still, it's better than every Megatron toy since the original. Actually, other than the silly gun mode, colorus, and shell like parts it's even better than the original toy design. Megatron was always coolest in animation.

A case of someone observing the tail wagging the dog. If Sony doesn't move more PS3s than 360s and Wiis in the market, a great deal more, developers will spread support more evenly. If, on the off chance, Microsoft or Nintendo manage to actually gather more market saturation than Sony, developers will favour whoever accomplishes that. With the cost of the PS3 console, cost of developing games that make use of the system's power, the likelihood that PS3 games will cost as much or more than 360 games (which seem to average $60), the much lower prices of both competing consoles, and other factors seem to be stacking against Sony retaining it's formidable lead of the PSX and PS2 generations. If this recent news that Sony might still be planning to curtail the used game market turns out to be true, that's another strike against the company in a growing list.

Like Yellowlightman said, wait and see what system as the games you like. Tech specs can only help one speculate on graphical power, and in that category Sony is putting so much high end into the PS3 there's almost no question it will have the best graphics (though those of us who remember the PS2 launch hype will remain skeptical on that until the games are playable). As far as games, we can only make educated guesses at this point, beyond the few titles that have been announced. However, if you put a high priority on FPS games and RTS games, keep an eye on the Wii. It's controller seems like a fusion of a gamepad with a PC gamer's keyboard and mouse, with some additional functionality on top of it all. The Wii will almost certainly handle FPS games better than any other console, and will probably be the only console to do RTS games in a decent manner. E3 impressions from the gaming media only seem to confirm this. However, if graphics are very important to you, the Wii will have the weakest visuals in this generation, as Nintendo is trying to get the system out at a lower price tag than the competition. It'll still be a leap over the Gamecube, just not nearly as much as the 360 or the PS3. If graphics are a big issue, but so is price, the 360 might be your best bet. It's likely to have plenty of FPS games, if you don't mind gamepad controls for console FPS games. However, Microsoft has had trouble getting Japanese 3rd party support in the past. Speaking of developer support, I'd wager it's not a given that Sony will retain the lopsided lion's share of the developer support that they've enjoyed for the past two consoles. With that price tag, a lot of people are likely to wait for a price drop, or possibly two. If developers see Microsoft and Nintendo gaining in market share, developers will have a lot more incentive to develope for all three consoles, rather than focusing on just one.
