Er, if a certain price becomes "too much" for someone to spend, than any price higher than that is absolutely no difference to that person. Too much is too much, no matter how you slice it. A little bit too much is no different than several thousand dollars too much to that person.

HAH! I want that game just because of how obscenely ridiculous it is!

True enough, more is always better in this case, but are the returns worth the cost? As for these titles that do go over 20GB, is that due to actual game content, or HiDef FMV? If, by some chance, it is game content (such as high-res texture maps taking up all this additional space), could the cost factor have been reduced another way rather than pushing BluRay? Sega pushed a proprietary disc format without upping the cost of the Dreamcast so high. Of course, we all know for Sony the big thing is to get BluRay, their format, into lots of homes, quickly. But will this move be successful in a market used to $200-300 price tags? Now, I'm not arguing that BluRay is, in itself, a bad thing, and I'm certainly not against more space, but it's a question of will the market support the move at that price?

Transformer Starscream Masterpiece has arrived!

I've got to be the only person that doesn't like that repaint, metallic or not. I mean, take the green/blue of MP Starscream and make it a grey tone, fine, that looks more realistic and more G1 Starscreamish, and still looks good. But personally, I'd take what Takara did over more "accurate" G1 colours as portrayed in that fan repaint. Just my take on the matter. More and more I'm leaning towards ordering one of these, rather than waiting. Just in case they get difficult to find and Hasbro takes the mold and does something I don't like with it. -
F360°, until recently the $600 PS3 was to be the only choice if you wanted HiDef, since the $500 PS3 would not have HDMI support. The $500 PS3 also lacked WiFi, memory card ports, and something else, can't quite recall what that was. These things could all be upgraded, but people figured, reasonably enough, that buying a $500 PS3 and all the upgrades would cost more than a $600 PS3, and you still wouldn't have HDMI support, since that was the one thing that would not have been upgradeable. Of course, this was a reasonable argument against the $500 PS3, but now thye $500 PS3 will have HDMI support, so it looks a lot more viable as an option. On the other hand, $500 is still a lot of money, and still includes features that may not affect gameplay at all, yet add to that price...such as BluRay support.

Transformers Super Thread 4: The Return

I wish they'd give him his trailer/armour. Underneath all that he is just an albino-Prime. -
Er...no, developement costs will only continue to increase as graphics improve. Better hardware only makes better graphics possible, it does not neccessarily make it easier. Games with the level of detail promised by MGS4 and FFXIII will almost certainly cost more than your average game, simply due to production costs. It's possible developers will try and take a hit on pricing to keep the costs to gamers down and meet the expected market prices, but that means they'll have to cut corners elsewhere eventually. It makes no sense for developers to produce higher quality graphics only to make less in profits. You are quite right on how Japanese pricing differs from American pricing for games. On the other hand, most of these early titles look only marginally better than their 360 counterparts. It's to be expected they will have similar prices.
-
So far the average seems to be between $40 and $70, but none of these are the big budget, graphics intensive titles, at least not like what MGS4 and FFXIII are promising. I imagine those will cost more simply due to developement costs.

You know, the green screen backgrounds didn't remind me nearly so much of made-for-tv crap as early 80's sci-fi movies and even older fantasy movies. Really, the trailer made me think 'Clash of the Titans' crossed with 'Dune', and I must admit that grabbed my attention. Count me in with those who hope the music in the movie isn't blatantly modern like the trailer.

But isn't that just an opinion? There are people that disagree with that opinion. Even so, I gotta agree with him on the fuel tanks. If they're going to be there, why aren't they realistic? To be honest, I wouldn't know unless someone pointed it out, but now I do know. It's a minor thing to me, but what bothers me is I see no reason for them to be unrealistic when it's just the shape of the plastic we're talking here, isn't it? It's not a deal breaker for me, but it is puzzling. That said, I'm torn between ordering one now, or waiting to see what Hasbro will do. It's pretty much a given it would be cheaper. I have to wonder what they'll do with the colours. I'm not certain I'd like a more G1 inspired scheme more (toy or cartoon). I like the colour scheme Takara has going, well, it seems to be different colours under different lights. Sometimes he looks more greenish, sometimes he looks more blue-ish (Neither makes him look much like Skywarp, in my opinion). I also wonder when we'll see repaints. I'm looking forward to both Thundercracker and Skywarp. My Alternators collection is rather lopsided at the moment. -
Er..yeah? The only precaution to prevent burn-in, that I know of is, in the short term, don't leave still images on the screen, and in the long term...keep it turned off and never use it.

I'm looking forward to the DS Opera browser, but I'm really just looking for an on-the-go web fix without shelling out for a laptop or a PDA. But off the topic of the browser, has anyone else been watching the DS game releases recently, and those coming up? As excited as I am for the Wii and PS3, the DS is still reigning as my favourite game console. Dragon Quest: Joker Crystal Chronicals Final Fantasy III Those three games are showing particularly impressive visuals for the DS, the kind no one really expected from the handheld. Phoenix Wright 2 and Hotel Dusk are both coming soon, so graphic adventure fans can get their fix. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were just released in Japan, selling over 2 million copies, and moving 500 thousand DS units off of store shelves. I was really happy to see the graphics overhaul the series is getting this time, and it looks like they're fleshing out the time of day aspects of the game. Mega Man XZ is out, and pretty nice. Basically a continuation of the MMZ series on the GBA, it really feels like those, but lacking the levelling up aspect and the cyber elves. I'm digging the evolution of the old "beat a boss, get their weapon" aspect. Oh, and taking a step back from the new, I picked up the Capcom Classics Mix released for the GBA. Strider, Mighty Final Fight, and most importantly, Bionic Commando. BC was my favourite NES game, it's nice to have it in portable form. Just wish they'd added a save feature.

Can anyone confirm that one inset in the pic chowyunskinny posted wasn't done by Kawamori? When the first posts about MP Starscream appeared here, it was photos of THAT design, saying that it was designed by Shoji Kawamori. Later I'd heard Takara had asked Shoji to redesign it a bit and then we got the current version. I hadn't heard anything to the contrary until this very thread. -

Er...I thought Kawamori did the first version of MP Starscream that everyone had been drooling over? It was announced that way in these forums. It wasn't until much later that we saw the revised version. -
Alright, so it wasn't always 3D then. But the first Sylpheed I can remember was 3D, ages ago. Then a remake came out of the same game for a newer console, but it was basically the same game just with texture maps. I remember that being a big deal. There's a suprising lack of information of the series on the web, it seems. Even Wikipedia lacks any mention of Sylpheed the game series.

I kinda doubt we'll see a price cut that soon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the PS2 go two years before a price cut? And if I remember correctly, it's only had one price cut since it launched, and is still going for about $200.

Yeah, but we naive Robotech fans of the time were starved for something, anything.

I like it, I'd buy it as-is. However, I'm waiting to see if there's an American release. If there is, I would not put it past Hasbro to recolour it. They gave the American release of MP Prime a battle worn look that was different from the Japanese release. -

I only just watched that trailer today, and skinning through the thread I didn't catch if anyone replied to you, but those clips are from 'The Amazing Screw-On Head' pilot. It's an animated series that, if it gets made at all, will be in Sci-Fi Channel. The pilot was absolute genius. If the show doesn't get made it will truly be a crime. You can watch the pilot on Sci-Fi.com I believe. That's where I saw it, but that was in August or July. If not, you can probably find it, or at least some choice clips, on Youtube. -
Transformers Super Thread 4: The Return

Die cast isn't as important to me, these days. It can be nice, and at times it can also be a bad thing, I've found. If the price is right, I'm still eager to pick up one of these Starscream toys. -
The blurry textures came from the fact that the cartridges did not have enough space to fit the games, and enough textyures to properly texture said games. So you got the N64 look, fewer textures, repeated everywhere. Sometimes pulling double duty. Eventually, towards the end of the system's life, they had gotten compression techniques down to the point where they could get PSX games like Resident Evil 2 onto the console, without losing anything and in-fact looking better than the PSX version, but by then most people didn't care. It really makes you wonder, what if Nintendo had gone with CDs back then?

Hasn't Sylpheed always been a 3D shooter?

I generally don't mind sequels, so long as they're new enough to be interesting. Unfortunately, most sequels are minor itterations, with not much putting them over their predecessors. What annoys me is when new franchises do appear, but die out quickly because people overlook them on their way to buy the latest ittertion of a franchise they already have several nearly identical itterations of.

I was also one of those kids who bought the system primarily for the Robotech game that wound up never seeing the light of day. Yeah, the N64 really set up Nintendo as the home multiplayer console, the Gamecube brought that to the forefront even more, and it looks like the Wii will expand that even further, and bring it online (though Nintendo will have a tough time making a system as nice as Microsoft's excellent Live system). I wrote up a huge rant about the system, but really...it did have some great games, undoubtedly the best 3D platform games of its generation. Also, it did push analogue sticks back into mainstream gaming. We'd probably still be using d-pads right now if not for the N64. Then again, Sega might have still gone with an analogue stick for the Dreamcast. Howver, we might still be without rumble pack controllers. The N64 also taught Nintendo that they couldn't sit on their laurels, trying to hold the industry still while milking its fanbase for ever increasing game costs simply because they wanted to set their prefered media format. I'm not certain the subsequent loss of market share made up for how Nintendo's bigwigs gimped Gunpei Yokoi's virtual reality console idea, leaving him with the lousy Virtual Boy, and then laying the blame for its failures squarely on his shoulders. Truly a low point for Nintendo.

And I must say, the Classics line is looking nice. Though I really wish that rather than orange and green and purple, perhaps read for the purple and orange spots, a bright enough colour that stands out from real guns, not to mention the already light grey body, and maybe made the translucent plastic a dark grey, or a darker red. It would stillobviously be a toy at just a glance, but also look so much nicer. Of course, they may be limited on the colours possibly by state laws. I'd rather they avoid the whole mess and make him a tank or artillary piece.
