  1. Ack, what is the music in that trailer? I've heard it before, in several places. None of which list what the name of the music is. I have had that music in my head for months now..I need to find it, so I can get it on CD or something!
  2. This video is fun, straight from Nintendo's Wii page. http://youtube.com/watch?v=p5cPVP_llfo
  3. People also have an inflated sense of value for the system. A lot of people expected they could get a $600 PS3 and then turn around and sell it on eBay for thousands. Now you're seeing eBay auctions where these people are having to repost their PS3s multiple times, practically begging people to pay their inflated prices. Still, at release so many people just thought a PS3 was like getting a golden ticket to Willy Wonka's Magical Money Land.
  4. We're echoing the sentiment, and putting it in the perspective of how difficult it is for popular games on a console as established console like the PS2, versus how much more difficult those numbers will be for games made for the PS3 which may never reach the PS2 levels of market saturation.
  5. And again, that's 400,000 on a console with an unprecedented lion's share of the market, over the course of many years.
  6. Er, it's 500,000 sold to reach profit. That means it'll take a lot more to hit the sort of profit game companies would like to see from their investments. By my understanding, 500,000 is a significant number in this ending generation, where the PS2 holds an unprecedented portion of the market. The chances of Sony replicating that dominance does not seem good. Sony had a lot of things in their favour with the PS2 launch that they do not have with the PS3. I'd say there is a good chance that market share will wind up being spread more evenly this time around. If so, that will only make it more difficult for developers to sell in the numbers they need to justify their initial investment in developement costs, at least if they want to create games that really take advantage of the PS3's hardware.
  7. They thought the 2004 Appleseed was "superb", with those words they instantly lost any and all credibility. That movie insulted me on a professional level.

    Takatoku VF1's

Yeah, as has been pointed out, if you collect for money you need to keep an eye on the market. The old Takatoku toys were so valuable because no one had made a decent VF-1 toy in ages. With the Bandai reissues, and the Yamato 1/60's hitting the market, the value of the old toys which had been shuffled around at insane prices between a few well off collectors, were suddenly worth a lot less money to the market. I remember in the late 90's seeing old Bandai and Takatoku VF-1s going for four digits, and even Hasbro Jetfire/Skyfire toys were fetching prices in the hundreds. The Elint and Super-O still get a higher price because those toys were not reissued. However, their values were still affected by the Yamato versions of those toys. Currently the market is saturated with VF-1 toys, and ias such the prices on those old toys have dropped significantly.
  9. Most people I know suggest a tiny bit of glue for loose joints. Not like model cement or anything, more like Elmer's, just enough to tighten the joint, not enough to glue the joint solid. That might be your best bet for the wrist. For the bicep, hmmm, haven't looked at the construction there too closely, maybe someone who has knows if there's maybe a screw that could be tightened or something? I don't really have much experience with this sort of thing, though, so you may want to wait for more replies.
  10. I've had the completely opposite experience. I wish I had some idea of why your Wii remote wasn't working well. I know like four or five other people with a Wii and none of them have had a problem like yours, not even my friend who had his hooked up to his projector. It's possible that either your sensor bar or remote might be faulty. Do you know anyone else with a Wii remote that might be able to come over and try?
  11. Have you tried moving closer than 7 feet? I mean, it should work at that distance, but might as well try moving a bit closer to see if it helps in your case.
  12. You know, he doesn't look bad at all, it's mainly that he doesn't look quite 'right' next to Prime. Same with Starscream, Starscream looks fantastic, but not quite right next to Prime. I kinda wish they'd redo Prime. Maybe use the Hybrid Convoy design, but clean it up to make better use of the scale, you know so the truck mode looks better. Back to Megs, I'll be happy so long as he can stand on his own two feet, and be posed without any help.
  13. And, yeah, it seems to me that there is so much PS3 scalping, that many who bought the console just to sell are going to be dissapointed.
  14. Here's the Ars Technica review of the PS3 if anyone is interested; http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/ps3.ars/1
  15. Yeah, about the overall hardware design, I shoulda mentioned earlier, but the Wiimote and nunchuck are both very comfortable to hold. Just the right size and shape. I've been playing Call of Duty a lot tonight, after tinkering with the sensitivity (turned it way down), I have to say I'm impressed. The first time I poked around a corner and a german knocked my gun from me and I had to wrestle his away to beat him with it..as wrong as it may sound, that just made my day. Still wish it had a centering button, or you had to hold a button down to look around, or something like that, but I'm definitely having fun with it so far. Still need to play further into Zelda, plan to go do that in just a few minutes. It controls wonderfully so far, but nothing that really takes advantage of the Wii controller, except talking with people. Looking forward to seeing how the sword fighting is handled. Wii Sports is so far the game that shows off the controller capabilities the most. With the group of people I was playing with, all gamers, everyone enjoyed it. They were still playing it tonight. Definitely a group game. It really won over some people that were not expecting to like the Wii at all.
  16. I want to see these sequences replace the scenes shown in the movies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ab5_NljWH0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGwBqqeJKMI...ted&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn9kaA2JpCE...ted&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0Wkc7J684U
  17. I should say something about the line experience. I wasn't there long, I had to work that night, no way I could get out of it. I did get out 40 minutes or so early so I could roll by Target at about 6:45 in the morning, say hi to some friends, and find a spot at the "no-chance in hell" section of the line. Even that far back the general feeling was friendly, the closer you got to the front the more festive the ambiance. It was cold, people had long ago put away their DSes by the time the wife and I had arrived for fear of losing fingers. Still, all the way to the end, most people were smiling and happy. It didn't seem that anyone was in line to get a system simply to sell. Most seemed very genuine about wanting the console for themselves. People were friendly, too. I recalled going to see Episode III back when it came out. We'd pre-bought tickets so we were guaranteed a seat at the 9 o'clock showing, but some friends were waiting in line. We walked by the line to talk to them, and immeadiately a group of people started swearing at us, assuming we were trying to cut in. No such nonsense at this line, despite people having been there much longer, under much less pleasant conditions. From what I heard, Target Employees had, at some point during the night, handed out coffee and food. That definitely seems nice. Still, it seemed as though everyone had come prepared. Pizza boxes, fast food bags, two liters, and I even saw a bottle of Everclear sitting next to some sleeping bags. When the tickets were handed out, there was less a sense of dissapointment than resignation towards the end of the line. It seemed everyone who had been there all night had gotten their system, it was the early morning latecomers that mostly went without (though even some of them beamed brightly with ticket in hand). Those who couldn't get one that morning all seemed to expect they'd be able to get one within a few weeks, definitely before Christmas. It was a fun, pleasant experience by all accounts.
  18. Sorry, wound up being up really late, and eventually, in the middle of playing Zelda, had to just put the controller off and stumble into bed where I passed out instantly. The Wii is fantastic. Wii sports is simply something to exerpience, perferably with a large group of friends. I've only tried Tennis and Golf so far, much fun was had. Tennis can easily be played sitting down, but swinging the controller like a racket definitely gets the best results. When Wii Golf came up, one of our friends tried to play sitting down, which earned him a barrage of mockery around his third turn when it had become very obvious that the only way to get anything near good results was to stand. Golf was a lot touchier than Tennis. It didn't respond well to subtle moves, like trying to tap the ball into the hole when you're right there. Also, you could do the exact same motion 5 times in a row, and get 5 different reactions onscreen. This became frustrating for me. Tennis, though, was a complete and total blast. I should tell you I'm a much bigger fan of real tennis than real golf, too. If anything, after a bit of practice both games accurately reflected how well I can play a real game of each. Heh. Before the wife and I left, I saw someone trip over the cord connecting the sensor bar to the Wii. Pulled the Wii right over and several feet across the carpeted floor. No damage, the game didn't even skip. Got home, set out our own Wii, and sat down to play a little more Wii Sports before popping in Zelda. Within the opening screens it became apparent where the critisism of its graphics comes from. It's a pretty game, to be sure, but while some areas are absolutely gorgeous, some scenes looked rather bland. Mainly bare faced cliffs, with the same texture repeating across the rock wall as far as the eye could see. Get into more detailed areas like the forest and it looks wonderful, for a Gamecube game. I didn't get very far into the game, I'm still in the village at the beginning, but from that early experience the game seemed incredibly fun. It controls like a dream. I'm looking forward to getting a better impression once I wake up a little more and maybe get some coffee in me. Of course later I'll probably be taking my copy of CoD3 over to a friend's place. Everyone I know wants to see how much the controls affect the experience.
  19. Went to Target around 6:30-6:45. Went home about 7:30. Sat around, poked at the internet, then met up with my minions at about 9 where they handed over my prize. Wii console, second controller+nunchuck, Call of Duty 3, Trauma Centre, and, of course, Twilight Princess.
  20. I'd decided not to camp a while ago. However, the wife might drop by Walmart tonight to see if there's any massive lines for the midnight release. In the morning we plan to head to the local Target we've heard is getting the largest shipment in town.
  21. How do you figure? The people spending this much on PS3s are a minority. The people who camp and are desperate to get their console day one are a minority. It's as yet unseen how the $500 minimum price tag the PS3 commands will go over with the mainstream market.
  22. One cannot price a system based on what a small number of fanatics are willing to pay.
  23. Actually, Nintendo has introduced new iconic characters since the SNES days. Not as many as some other companies, and certainly not as many as a combined set of developers, but to say they haven't introduced anything new since the SNES days is false. Additionally, the idea that many experienced gamers refuse the "same old" argument is not simply because they grew up playing the NES and SNES isn't quite true either. Many refuse the argument because as has been pointed out, despite using many of the same characters time and again, Nintendo is adept at genre innovation, rather than simple iteration when it comes to their franchises.
