  1. Wow, so a full quarter of the fanbase in this thread so far. I had a Powerjet and a Phantom Striker. And the power station thingy. I think I only had one figure though. Wow, brings back memories. Seemed like a really dark show for the time, that's mostly what I remember.
  2. Why all the neg votes for this episode? Thought it was great fun. Not as flash as the previous episode, sure, but all action and no whimsy is much less fun. I also think this episode further pushes Frontier into its own, with the further development of Ranka's professional growth. Looking forward to seeing where the Ranka/Sheryl conflict is going. Both characters are just so great.
  3. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but even in the west, CGI means Computer Generated Image and includes 2D artwork created on the computer. So it would be more correct to say it's the term in the animation industry, not just anime-specific. When the Japanese refer to computer drawn or coloured illustration sets as "CG sets" it's not really a misuse of the term. Excluding 2D CG artwork from CGI is a misuse of the term. Of course, CG/CGI has come to commonly mean "3D computer model artwork", but that's really slang, and incorrect on a technical level. I don't understand Chrono's last post. You can have pretty poor 3D CGI. In fact, it's pretty rampant. You can compare 2D and 3D artwork and animation on merits of detail, motion, etcetera. Of course, I've got to run and haven't been able to read far back enough to see the post you're quoting there. I may be missing something, mea culpa in that case.
  4. I still think a well done PC game would be even better. Graphics just as nice, assuming you've got a good enough PC, and I'd get to break out my underused flight stick and get more of an "in the cockpit" feel. Man, I miss flight sims.
  5. Also, 2001 is still a great book, with no need for a retcon.
  6. Er....you guys are joking about that right? C'mon, seriously, tell me you're joking. If not, do me a favour, put on a loose fitting shirt, place your hands against it, and push up to see what happens. Shocking revelations as you now have your own mysterious protrusion! Do you have a fold reactor inside you?! Watch the next exciting episode of Macross Frontier, or Fun With Fabric, to find out!
  7. Not really. Is it so difficult to think of it as a fictional setting in a world like, but not identical to our own? That's kinda like saying classic sci-fi works like Jules Vern's books ought to be rewritten. Clearly, aliens did not invade in the 1800's. Sure, Hollywood might think it's a great idea, but Hollywood is also kinda stupid like that.
  8. Wasn't it only the red one we saw using the anti-missle "organic flares" in the first episode?
  9. He seemed to be hiding, not entangled. He certainly did not seem to have any difficulty, whatsoever, in escaping this supposed "entanglement".
  10. That's not really helping, though. Especially when he did actively attempt to hinder their escape.
  11. Sheryl has two purple stones, one on loan to Alto.
  12. Couple questions... At what point does Brera appear to aid Alto and Luca? He kinda shoots the gunpod out of Luca's Valkyrie's hand, and then aims his gun directly at Alto and Luca up until the point that the Quarter appears. Also, at this point do we have any indication at all that Brera may be connected with Mr. Bilrer?
  13. Neither are important to watch in sequence. Though they both flesh out events that are brought up over the course of the series. Isn't On Golden Wings the "LotGH Gaiden" OVA? Or is that something else entirely? I certainly won't be displeased to learn that it is, in fact, something I've not yet seen.
  14. I've always kinda assumed Dynamite 7 had a different director than the tv series. It feels more like Frontier than Macross 7 did. A lower budget, inconsequential sidestory Frontier, but you know what I mean.
  15. My guess, and this is complete fan conjecture on my part, but it is somewhat possible, if maybe unlikely, that the fabric of her dress was pushed out that way when she grabbed the fabric of her dress and pushed up that way. I know, I know. We'll just have to wait until Egan Loo updates the Compendium before we know for sure.
  16. Ah, ja not surprised, but as usual I joined the party late, not wanting to hop into the thread until a subtitled version was out that I could see for myself. This is probably the first episode thread where I didn't go back and try to read the whole thing. Of course, I believe this is the first that was past 40 pages by the time I got ahold of a fansub.
  17. Say, did anyone else catch the emblem gracing our mysterious VF-27? If not, someone should get a screengrab of that and post it. Shocking revelations, possibly? Confirmation for some? Anyways, best place to catch it is in the fold sequence at the end, as we get that nice close up pan towards the red VF. It's towards the end of that pan.
  18. I was wrong! The post-refit Macross is actually slightly smaller. Well, shorter at any rate.
  19. I think the movie Macross was a bit larger than the tv series version. I'm sure the compendium has statistics for anyone really interested. Isn't the Quarter 1/4 the size of a New Macross class ship?
  20. I rather liked Dynamite 7, for the same reasons Gubaba mentioned. Nothing struck me as sexual about the bath scene, so it never really bothered me. The Mylene thing certainly seems to come out of nowhere, and other than a small lauch as Ray and Veffidas are running down the street, carrying Mylene, it didn't really seem to add much to the story. The overall story was simple, but nice. I didn't find it to be bland at all. Sure, it was overtly referencing Moby Dick, but I didn't have a problem with that, rather enjoyed that aspect, actually. It was no big epic occurrence in the Macross universe, but it was enjoyable, and gave a nice little glimpse at the way humanity has spread through the galaxy. I thought the Zolans were neat. I don't know about it being "another me-too anime". It really didn't feel that way to me. It felt like Macross to me. Albiet, a laid back sort of Macross side story, but Macross none-the-less. I suppose if you don't like it, you don't like it. Lots of people seem to like different aspects of Macross. Dynamite was certainly light on the mecha action, and it certainly was not epic, or even just larger than life, in any way. I can see where that would put people off.
  21. Oh, I wasn't directing that entirely at you, it seems like everyone has been saying that and, well, say something enough times and someone out there takes it literally. I also agree, there was certainly some aspects about the sequence that really stretched the whole suspension of disbelief thing. In my opinion it was less so the acceleration or maneuverability than the part where it pushes the Vajra ship's cannon further open, and then slides the carrier deck to the back. Oh, as much as I loved the episode, and even that sequence, there is really no comparison between that and the Daedalus maneuver. Not even close. Not even drunk, while squinting your eyes a lot.
  22. It ranks highly on the list of anime I'd recommend to people who don't normally like anime, as well. Certainly one of my all-time favourites. Man, I tell you though, I started this series sometime in the late 90's I believe, when only the first 40 or so episodes were available on really poor quality VHS. When those VHS copies were ripped to video files, I downloaded them all and rewatched them despite the poor quality. I started again when Central Anime first began subbing them in high quality video files, but with various things going on in my life I never did finish...until maybe two months ago. So, it was maybe 10 years for me, start to finish. There was certainly some degree of anguish as I hit the play button for that final episode. I'm currently, between Frontier episodes, downloading the LotGH Gaiden, which I'd seen once already way, way back, on poor quality VHS. I should look and see if Central Anime has done the movies, as well.
  23. To be fair, the Quarter hardly moves like a Valkyrie. Comments about that are rather exaggerated. Not arguing it was realistic, but even a VF-1 would have flown circles around it. The most Valk-like thing was moving the carrier arm to the back, which I thought was actually the most over-the-top part of the whole thing.
  24. Also, it's very clear that the VF-27s are not a part of the Vajra force. I can't wait to see where this is going. A three way battle? Another SMS type group? A special branch of the NUNS? Part of another human/zentraedi government? *edit* Oh, and another obvious possibility, given how much they liked to mention that the Galaxy was heavily financed by corporate interests, a corporate interest trying to get its hands on Vajra technology? *edit* Verra eenteresting. Also, the shot of what appears to be the Battle 25 command crew gives me hope yet that we'll also see the larger cap ships going into battle eventually. I suspect I'm in the minority, but I am a fan of the New Macross ships like Battle 5, 7, and 13.
  25. Finally saw it, now that the fansub is out. "Our ship will now enter close quarters melee combat with the Vajra mothership." That sums up the episode, right there. Also, Bobby is all kinds of awesome behind the wheel.
