  1. This bugs me, too. No offense to Seto, who's a good guy, but I find it a little annoying that both Pizza the Hutt and Doug Bendo have referred to him as the leader of Macross fandom, and the rest of us are just his flunkies.
  2. I quite liked the Adama-and-his-wife/Chief-and-Cally-in-the-airlock episode. I especially liked the contrast between Adama and Baltar/Caprica. Adama has imaginary conversations, too, but you can tell he's sane because he doesn't actually talk OUT LOUD when he has them.
  3. Like I said: Ritsuko's mother. They never show Ritsuko's mother actually tossing herself off the balcony. Which proves CONCLUSIVELY that she didn't kill herself. It was all a coverup, and now she's feeding Kaji information. After all, Kaji brought Ristuko a cat trinket after meeting with the old woman. WHO ELSE KNOWS THAT RITSUKO LIKES CATS??? And the old lady has cats near her as well. Like mother, like daughter. Otherwise, just as Toji's sister is a pointless character unless her soul's inside EVA-03, the old lady is a pointless character unless she's Ritsuko's mother.
  4. The kicker, Memo supports him, so it's possibly true to them at least. And to touch on something Zen72 talked about a while back on his show about the non-existence of a Robotech Gospel, a recent 12/2/09 topic on the Robotech 00 Podcast is, I kid you not: Hmmm...I tried to look at Doug's podcast this evening, but it said I had to be a Talkshoe member (and over 18) to access it. I don't really want to do that, so I guess this is where he and I part ways. He really believes his own hype about "the face of the fandom," based on the fact that he sometimes gets more than 900 people listening (excuse me, I mean "lessoning") to his podcast. I wonder how many of those people LIKE him, though. As for how to look at Robotech, that's easy. If you frame it right, criticism can melt away. It's like in the Battlestar Galactica discussion. I've been watching the new show, and rewatching the old, and finding the old show to be dumb and boring, but a lot of people say, "Well, considering that it was on TV in the '70s, it was pretty good!" And yeah, there's something to be said for that. So if you compare Robotech to other badly written, badly acted travesties incorporating three separate mecha shows, one of which is Macross...well then, Robotech is top of that particular heap. In fact, I'd say that, in the history of mankind, Robotech is the best American production to combine Macross with Southern Cross and Mospeada, period. And THAT'S how to look at Robotech! But no, it's clear Doug wants to control the fandom, and steer them in the direction he wants them to go. But... Look at the difference between JT, who, merely by being smart and humble and enthusiastic, has become something of leader of Robotech fandom, and he's declares he's NOT a leader. Then you have Doug, who makes a big deal about being THE #1 Robotech fan, the guy who knows everything and sees all, and he gets razzed at every turn. There's a lesson there, I think.
  5. Ritsuko's mother...?
  6. Ah. Volume Six is the one you want to see. Your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find out who shot Kaji.
  7. No, no...it proves conclusively that anyone who likes Macross Frontier is a pedophile, pure and simple. Resistance is futile. (Actually, the "discussion" got pretty funny after a while. Doug Bendo is a proponent of not believing official stats, but rather going ONLY by what is on-screen (which led to, yes, an argument about the length of the SDF-1), and about Ranka he said, "She looks twelve, so she is twelve," pure and simple. So Viper put up the screenshot showing her date of birth, which Doug discounted. When I asked him how he could justify believing everything on-screen, yet not believing THAT, he said, "Nobody cares about that anymore, it's history" or something like that. Then he went and made a two hour podcast about it. )
  8. Could've been worse...have you read the comic? FINALLY! We agree!
  9. No, none of that is there. It's all about recording the album, and Fire Bomber's influence over the last fifteen years (mentioning specially that Sheryl Nome is a fan, as is Ranka Lee's brother).
  10. Hmm... (And thanks for the tip about the skippable episodes. I'll watch all of 'em, of course. But it's nice to be forewarned about a rough patch.) And, uh, let's try this again: *deep breath* I said, "Oh, and look at who else is there...guess studying the Prophecies of Pythia doesn't save you from showing up in a crappy horror flick:"
  11. And I think Dualla, Sharon, and Kally are better-looking than either Starbuck or Six. I think Maya, though, was the most mesmerizingly beautiful woman in the whole series, though. Pity she had such a small part.
  12. Funnily enough, I snagged it off of Hasegawa's site.
  13. I haven't had much of a chance to look at it either yet...wanna divide the work?
  14. Nah, this is from one of her movies: Oh, and look at who else is there...guess studying the Prophecies of Pythia doesn't save you from showing up in a crappy horror flick: (Well, for some reason, it's not letting me upload the pic. Dunno why. It's certainly small enough...) Can't say I've been really "into" the last couple of episodes. Baltar's LSD trip was kind of interesting, but not great, and the Sagittaron-murdering doctor was kind of like "Black Market"...an interesting concept that might've been better handled in the background of two or three episodes rather than thrust into the foreground for one.
  15. I think Mari-ja is sad that no one is writing burning hot discourses about Macross in this thread. Or else it's that no one else is arguing for more Macross 7 for the 30th Anniversary.
  16. I was also hinting that it's nigh-on impossible to "blow the damned thing to pieces."
  17. You didn't watch the series, did you?
  18. Possibly. They always seem unsure about whether or not Rei cold pilot EVA-01. (She does in the comics, but not very well.) So...it's settled that they use his sister? And that the soul is placed in the Eva well after it is "born" or "created" or however they do it? I thought these were still unanswered (and probably unanswerable) questions. I'd agree with that. He's doing it out of duty, not because he wants to. I think Freiflug is assuming that Toji's sister is crippled because she's in the hospital for so long. As for Toji himself...in episode 19, when he tells the Class Rep to tell his sister that nothing's wrong with him, look at his legs.
  19. Hmmm...that's a lot more comics than I was expecting...next time I drop into the comics shop, I'll check 'em out. Which ones do YOU like the best?
  20. Guess I'll find out, huh? I have to say that one of the things I like about this season is the way everybody's shifting around. Everyone's on New Caprica, then they're in space again. Baltar's with the humans, then he's with the Cylons, now he's back with the humans (and I'm VERY interested to see what happens to him next). Sharon becomes Athena, goes back to the Base Star, and returns with Hera and Caprica. Hell, Boomer even came back to the Galactica, albeit briefly. All the old roles are getting shaken up and falling into new places. And just when I was beginning to like Lee, I'm beginning to hate him again, for what he's doing to D... (Yes, I'm not only into the space opera aspect of the show, but I also find the soap opera aspect interesting as well... )
  21. LISTEN TO SOME FIRE BOMBER! QUICK! IT'S THE ONLY CHANCE YOU'VE GOT!!! "FLY AWAY! FLY AWAY! nobo~tte yuko~u TRY AGAIN! TRY AGAIN! kinou ni te wo futte! FLY AWAY! FLY AWAY! shinji~ru kagiri~ TRY AGAIN! TRY AGAIN! ashita wo aiseru saaaaa!"
  22. Sounds fun...I'd imagine that having a chat with her would be pretty trippy, if her music is anything to go by. And instead of a concert, I'd rather she came out with a new album...but I guess it's not up to me, huh?
  23. So...uh...no more Lucy Lawless, huh? I can't believe that Starbuck is a Cylon...the Cylons seem to need her too much for her to be one of them. But clearly, there's SOMETHING special about her...
  24. Ah, that was Christmas 2011, so you've still got two years to prepare.
