  1. It's because in the novel backstory for Robotech, the entire reason for the wars is all three alien enemies want their lost Protoculture Matrix/Flowers of Life on the SDF-1,which Zor stole away from the Masters who stole it from the Invid or something to that order. I don't remember how much of that was explicitly stated in the show itself.
  2. Umm, what? Even that isn't even true. Are we forgetting berserker Super Pack Klan Klang and the lovably psychotic Ms. Polanski? Not to mention that the ultimate mecha superweapon pilots of both series are women?
  3. Ugh, am I the only one that hates the Macross Cannon design? It's like poster boy for the lazyass rehashed mecha design and recycled storytelling on that show.
  4. I think the Ex mission campaign and related mecha open up after you successfully completed all the main campaigns once. The opening of "Hush of 200 Million Years" seguing in at the end of the credits roll was a nice touch. Unlocked are Ishtar as a support character, The VF-2SS, the Gigamesh and red Gigamesh Feff from Macross II, VF-1S Mariafokina, Ravens VF-19A, Garland's VF-22 from VFX2 and Max and Milia's Dancing Skull VF-9 Cutlasses from M3.
  5. Don't take out the Meltrandi gunships immediately, keep switching lock to check if more Queadluun Raus show up, and go after them first, only take out the gunship when no more show up. Then take out all of Chlore's wingmen before dealing with her. Also, keep your partner alive. I don''t know how the Sound Boosters are awarded, but I think I was able to unlock and buy them (1 for each Sound Force Unit) at the Nyan-Nyan shop before that. I don't think I've done any 7 chronicle missions uet.
  6. Yes, I think you just need to copy the savedata directory PSP\SAVEDATA\NPJH50050000 from the Memory Stick.
  7. Speaking of which, does anyone play this online over XLink Kai? How playable is it? Haven't got a wireless adapter to try it out yet.
  8. Sure, nothing important for the Macross protagonists. Well, ideally such a story would be about the lives of other new characters, or even from the Zentran POV, about a more personal story rather than earth-shaking events. That was intended to be a sardonic statement about how the nebulous nature of Protoculture in Robotech could make such a thing happen in a hypothetical Robotech sequel, not some kind of endorsement.
  9. Well it's somewhat disappointing and a little unbelievable that UN Spacy advances in VF design in the alternate 2036 amounts to supergluing superpacks onto the backs of VF-1s (I feel the same way about some of the Macross II designs). I like The updated Zentran designs though. Did they ever mention why the Mardook know about the "legendary" Ark of Alus that is less than a century old? Is it just rumors from captured slave Zentradi? Or is there some weird time travel plot device involved?
  10. Well, they can also turn out to be the remains of an ancient civilization transfigured into a substance as well. At this point is there anything Protoculture isn't in Robotech? Wasn''t the plot of Robotech 3000 about the stuff awakening and turning out to be sentient, lol? I'd like to see a Macross set in the two lost years of the TV series, with a cast of UN Spacy troubleshooters vs. renegade cultured Zentradi dissidents. They can explores the themes of mutual racism and bridging differences in the aftermath of war, and finding one's own meaning in culture beyond Minmay's J-Pop and the novelty of nookie, which were briefly touched in the series. As a plus, they can have a thematically suitable soundtrack from another genre, perhaps metal, seeing how they've taken on genres other than pop before. (Zero=?New Age? Plus=Trance, Seven=Rock). edit: apparently, sarcasm doen't carry that well in text.
  11. I always put it down to the consumption of their presumably synthesised space grog or diet (or maybe those weird multicolor Zentran carrots Ranka was hawking?)
  12. Unfortunately, you will need a Japanese region PSP to even read the bonus video umd due to region locking, apparently. The Mikimoto slip case is nice, but hardly worth nearly twice the price of the regular version for an unplayable video umd.
  13. OK, so you can avoid shooting the Z-Soldiers (Objective 2), but how are you supposed to defeat the Nupetiet-Vergnitz in this mission non-lethally, without using era-unlocked Sound Force units? (Objective 3) Also, how does attaining Ex Status for missions after unlocking era work?
  14. In the Frontier mission "Northern Cross" where Alto and Luca fight Ozma trying to stop SMS from deserting the Frontier fleet, what is the trigger to get the Macross Quarter to join in the fight? That never happened the last time I completed the mission, so I was shocked when it suddenly appeared before me after I defeated Ozma in my last playthrough.
  15. Maybe they just can't relate to the musical aspect of Macross? It doesn't really show up in the other "generations" (and is also less prominent in SDFM than in later Macross sequels). Understandable given the godsawful (even for the 80s) "Stagefright" and "We will win". In Plus (and in Zero), the music is more incidental and not major plot devices.
  16. Sound Force units need to be able to gattai into their Sound Boosters mid-mission. (Booster and Body HP tracked seperately?) The rest of the Protodeviln weirdos instead of just Sivil, Glavil and Geperuniti. Adding the Neo-Glaug sub-boss from the PSX game into the final Macross Plus mission. More iconic launch sequences from the series instead of just the boring generic one we have now. (Prometheus carrier deck launch, Diamond Force linear catapult, Eden airbase runway takeoff, DYRL boom arm launch, SV-51 submarine launch. Also, damage maps on capital ships other than the Thurvel-Salan. Why did they bother with only that one ship, I wonder?
  17. In the mission "My Soul For You" where Gigil is searching for Sivil on City 7, where is she exactly? Once I approach the city block the warning "Target has begun to escape" appears, but I can never locate her before she runs away. Is that a bonus objective?
  18. I just soloed the Bird Human enemy mission using Vrlitwhai by locking on the AFOS, rushing up its body, then beating the living crap out of it with a length of pipe, LOL. The man can fly about without a suit, stop incoming missiles by twirling his pipe around like a baton, and fire missiles from his crotch. Is he the Macross version of Chuck Norris? P.S. How do I unlock the SDFM VF-1A Kakizaki?
  19. What's the secondary objective of the SDFM Zero-G Love mission? Do I avoid shooting the defeated Zentradi pilots who eject or something?
  20. Hmm, has the SDFM TV Super Pack always been unusable in atmosphere? I can't switch to Fighter mode in some levels with one on. Also, how do you manually purge the Armor/Super Packs?
  21. Is there any way of playing the limited edition bonus UMD Video without a Japanese PSP? Bloody stupid region lockout...
  22. Apale Genki itself being a sub-homage to Macross Zero, where Aries bribed the villagers using the juice as freebies. Grace using Ranka's holographic image projected over Battle Galaxy, like Sharon Apple did with the SDF-1 in Macross. Grace's Vajra interface form in the Queen's head is a cross between Sara Nome in the Birdman head and Ivane Gunther's torso embedded inside the head of Gepernitch's Spiritia Black Hole form. Possibly plot foreshadowing and not a homage at all because Grace said the Bird Human was based on the Vajra, the Vajra Queen head/command node can be removed without killing the Queen. Michael's death scene is a visual homage to the aftermath of Max and Millia's fight in the Meltran airlock in DYRL, with a wounded Max looking on the prone defeated giant Millia for the first time, like a mortally wounded Michael looking on the prone giant Klan in the micronization chamber for the last time. Sheryl's "Atashi to ishou ja, iya?" before her Star Date with Alto, is verbatim Minmay's words to Hikaru just before their date in DYRL. Miranda Merin shares the same family name as Jamis Merin, the actress who lost to Minmay in the original Miss Macross. In a twist, she doesn't get upstaged by the moeblob protagonist and claims the Miss Macross title avenging her ancestor. The parts of the "Bird Human" movie we saw is scene for scene exactly what happened in the "real" Macross Zero. How the heck did they manage that? In a non-Macross reference, Leon's public address is patterned after Mobile Suit Gundam's Giren Zabi's speech at Garma's funeral. When Leon slams the podium and rhetorically asks why the Vajra are attacking them, it cuts away to Grace (who provoked said attacks) elsewhere smirking and answering that it was because they were a nuisance, similar to when Giren asks rhetorically why Garma Zabi died, and it cuts away to Char (who caused said death) in a bar smirking and answering that it was because he was a dumbass kid. Alto almost goes out like SDF Kakikazi on Gallia IV, trying to outrun a fold fault. Nyan nyan's mascot Minmeh looks exactly like a Minmay doll. Hikaru bails on Misa to go on a date with Minmay. Misa waits for him in vain and feeds the picnic basket to a cute lost puppy. Alto decides to go to Gallia IV with Sheryl instead of meeting with Ranka. Ranka waits for him in vain and feeds his cookies to a cute lost alien larvae (Ai-kun). Ozma names all his battle formation orders after Fire Bomber songs.
  23. That should be Roy, Rick and T.R. Edwards. Ben is Kakizaki, and I doubt an A.I. that flies like him would be of much use.
  24. The fold network scene between Alto, Ranka and Sheryl where they convince Sheryl to sing again with Ranka curing her restoring colour to Sheryl's costume is similar to the allegorical scene at the end of Flashback 2012 where Hikaru hands Minmay back her microphone, Misa holds her by the shoulders like a friend, and a veil drops over Minmay turning restoring color to her life, turning her black mourning clothes into her bright concert costume.
  25. Because you can't be the world's foremost protoculture researcher without the wheelchair to show for it. Similar to how you can't rise to senior Zentran commander without bolting a metal skullplate to your face.
