  1. They've already done pop (Minmay, Sheryl, Ranka), rock (Basara, Sheryl), trance (Sharon Apple), new age (Sara Nome). And I hear 7th Chord is about classical piano, LOL. I want to see metal featured next (or failing that, some other different genre).
  2. I don't think SC even has any Itano Circuses. Simple missile barrages that veer straight to the target are not the same thing. Apologists would call the circus "unrealistic" anyway. Plus. the Vajra style neon tracer missiles (if that's what he's talking about) have been around since Macross Zero _at least_.
  3. Yes, but go through the extra work to turn the three distinct series into one storyline? Could they not have done a "Robotech Presents: Macross" "Robotech Presents: Megazone 23", etc. king of deal, saving themselves a lot of effort (and everyone a lot of future drama and legal issues). They would even have more freedom to source for mecha shows more dissimilar from Macross. It just seems more trouble than it was worth (and has actually turned out to be more trouble than it was worth IMO).
  4. To be fair, I think he means globally marketable as a daily syndicated cartoon solely targeted at children, in the 80s environment, after they decided to go that route. I think they could have gone the mecha series anthology series route, however. I just don't get this obsession with "creating" an original work by sourcing for and badly stitching together vaguely similar shows.
  5. I love how he deliberately uses the term "exploitations of the Macross franchise" there in lieu of "Macross sequels","series", or "properties" to refer to Macross II, Macross Plus and Macross 7. Might as well go and insert a "dubious" in front of that statement. Far be it for writers of each new Macross show to avoid repeating the same exact premise ad nauseum and use the theme of music in different ways, no, it surely must be the influence of Robotech. Oh, right, I forgot. The Japanese can't even score a soundtrack for their cartoon properly, can they? Why, Rick Hunter Hikaru Ichijyo doesn't even have a leifmotif of his own.
  6. Dr. Squarejaw is Sentinels era Lang, I think? Admiral Rick Hunter
  7. Is he? Shouldn't he be an gray haired old coot like T.R. Edwards on the left by this time? (The guy with the faceplate _is_ Edwards, right?) Isn't the new Rick Hunter appearance the one with the white Junichiro Koizumi-esque styled hair?
  8. Say, why is Docker's squadron called Emerald Force anyway? Their colour scheme is blue instead of green. OK, so Diamond Force doesn't really fit either, but still...
  9. I wonder if the NUNS logo is supposed to be symbolic of something. It looks to be an amalgam of the old UN spacy kite and the Zentradi emblem (and possibly the Zola diamond, though that's rather a stretch).
  10. One would have thought there were more obvious reasons why it won't (and shouldn't) happen, really.
  11. YMMV. Turn A has some of the best writing and direction in the Gundam series IMO. It just diverges far from the standard Gundam plot formula. Didn't we have a shot of Amuro's cockpit exploding when his Gundam overloaded, and Nanai breaking down when she feels Char fading away with her NT powers? Then we get the three glowing balls of light chasing each other around Earth orbit in the credits, which I assume is symbolic of the Lalah/Char/Amuro triangle continuing into the hereafter. So, yeah, they're dead.
  12. Isn't Rem a Zor clone himself? That's one screwed up family tree right there. That's Roy. One letter off and spelt backwards. Surely, a meaningful portent of great import.
  13. Oh yeah, I remember another time loop. It turns out that the ones responsible for SDF-1's disappearing protoculture (fold) drive way back when was the SDF-3. They swiped the thing from the past to get out of the weirdspace.
  14. Does it really? I know that was the intent from CM's original vision, but I'm not sure EoTC actually went that route. All I remember of the surreal ending is a knocked up Minmei singing to Haydon in weirdspace or something. How different is Sentinels and EoTC from the plot outline in Robotech Art 3 anyway?
  15. There were books after End of the Circle? Is it that Zentraedi Malcontent Uprising stuff?
  16. Except Hikaru does start a family, just not with Minmay. Just because the military shouldn't be the single purpose of a society doesn't mean the military is not needed, or that individuals shouldn't base a career around it. The point is knowing what is worth fighting for to defend, not just "conflict is life". As for Stick, it's because 1. He's kind of a stick in the mud jerk 2. He probably needs more time to come to terms with the fact that Aisha is an Inbit. It's because the Inbit were not concerned about annilihating mankind initially, only finding a suitable lifeform to evolve into to colonize the planet. On a side note, you just know that there're be a Fourth Expeditionary Force at some point in Mospeada's future once the Mars Forces recover from their complete loss, when the "pure" Martians realize the Earth population has been infiltrated by humanform Inbit.
  17. I'm just morbidly curious, how did things turn out differently from End of the Circle in Carl Macek's original vision in Robotech Art 3?
  18. That's because the VF-2SS is an equally lazy design, with bits fiddled with to give it a slightly different look. The YF-10 actually does a better job of it, IMO (The concept art, not this cheap toy) Is that for real?! What's the point of creating a fake UN Spacy logo in the show if you're just going to pirate the real one on your toy merchandise anyway.
  19. MACROSS DROP KICK! (From Ultimate Frontier, I think it's the Macross Quarter ...)
  20. That kind of makes sense for the Rosenritter in their roles as space marines, as boarding actions are almost always close quarters against opponents in full body armor, and using heavy weaponry on board a spaceship is likely to cause explosive decompression. Besides the magic invisible particles that they sometimes deploy as a tactic causes energy weaponry to explode. (Why no one switches to using projectile weapons is another question). The actual infantry have and do actually use ranged weaponry in battle.
  21. Roboplane, the Untold Story?
  22. Never? Although at some point I suppose they may use this to claim that Valkyrie designs and modes are generic and therefore non-infringing when the time comes for them to push out VF-1 clones for the LAM.
  23. Yep, the main character valk looks like it's based off the J-10. I guess the single tail fin in stashed in the nose/crotch in Battroid mode?
  24. I may be reading too much into it, but that last one strikes me less as a fairy tale and more as a thinly disguised rant personally cathartic parable. If so, I can probably guess how it ends, LOL.
  25. I don't see this one. What are you referring to?
