After careful consideration I had to go with episode 5 "Star Date" just over First Attack and Close Encounter (Deculture). The DVD version of Close Encounter (32 mins) might actually be the best episode from the first 10 though...

Yeah it opens up with her shuttle coming out of fold and she's dreaming about Strawberry Pie, she than wakes up see's Frontier and goes gaga over it. Considering her actions in episode 5 and what we find out in 6 it's easy to see why.

That was me, she was arguing on Random Curiosity's blog that the first girl shown is more important because it gives the viewer a connection with her. She than pointed out Misa in Macross... and than I'm like have you even watched the series? Minmei dominates the start period and Misa wasn't even a love interest until later on. That's when I found out about the instant expert recipe of 2 episodes + wiki. Oh and I also pointed out that Deculture showed off off 1-2 mins of Sheryl before it even went to Ranka and that during Ranka's intro sequence she as standing next to a Sheryl poster. That's why you haven't seen her "shown first" argument on AS

Gotta admit though that it would be terribly one sided on AS without her around though. Though I'm finding all these excuses for her stuffing up in True Tears funny considering she was just as adamant with that show as she is now with Frontier. Guilty as charged for True Tears and Frontier

I said after last months newtype polls that Frontier would do better this month but not surpass Code Geass (which is massive among otaku in japan), here's some of this months poll results. If you follow anime trends Ranka is a 90% chance to win... seriously the amount of women in Sheryl's mold who wins is low... Last one.. maybe Shuffle? Thankfully Kawamori bucks the trend with his women... let's hope he doesn't slip up here.

Code Geass and Haruhi were both rating 1-2% and went on to sell massively on dvd. (only shows to avg more than those 2 on dvd are Eva, MSG, SEED Destiny, SEED & Zeta Gundam). Also these are TBS ratings... MBS broadcasts it the day before.. and you know if if I were in the Tokyo region.. I'm downloading the show (or watching it on NicoNico) and watching in Friday afternoon.. not staying up to 2 am to watch it.. I guess it is space... would be a handful to say "Lion by Sheryl Nome starring May'n and Megumi Nakajima = Ranka Lee"

You misread me or I didn't phrase it well enough, Sheryl is the overwhelming favorite on Chinese forums not Ranka. She was more popular after Deculture (Day 1 sheryl fans ftw!) where as on English forums I think it took until Star Date for Sheryl to be more popular.

Actually I think she's more popular in Japan as well, she's ahead of Ranka in last month's newtype poll, she actually got on last months Animage poll which Ranka didn't, I've seen two online polls in Japan and she was leading in one and the other Ranka is. I think Ranka is more popular on 2ch but 2ch is the land of moe and loli so if she wasn't I would be shocked. I've been told she's overwhelmingly popular on chinese forums as well...

Macross World = Sheryl Country like pretty much every other major English anime forum.

I bet the second half of Innocent Green is played during a pivotal Sheryl and Alto scene, I'll like to say "the" scene where its decided but I'm not confident enough unlike True Tears where when I heard a song on the OST i posted the winner straight away (5 weeks prior to the last episode) and said this was the hook up song. I was right on both accounts there...

Personally I have to go with the movie, I liked a lot of the scenes they included and the events of OVA 4 in the movie was far superior, Guld got a much better death scene, extended Sharon Apple concert and Isamu and Myung got a scene at the end. I did miss a lot of the scenes from the OVAs but I felt the movie was better... just! Though I have to admit I loved how the OVAs ended each episode, Afer in The Dark is a great song and I always love it when anime shows start up the ED song before the credits.

There always is missing music in the first OST, you can't fit everything into one cd. OST 1 seems to cover the first half of Macross, OST II will probably do the second half.. or most of the second half. OST 3 will do the end episodes as well as themes that have been missed out. If there's an OST 4 I suspect it will be like a best of with all the OP/EDS as well as a few different versions of songs already covered. Acapella of Diamond Crevasse by Sheryl and Ranka for one, the Infinity version sung by Sheryl and Ranka etc. The second OST will feature the following 3 vocal songs for sure, Ranka's Interstellar Flight, Sheryl and Ranka's Lion (New OP) and Sheryl's Northern Cross (New ED). Several bgm themes not used so far are... - The one that plays when Sheryl tells Alto about how she grew up on Galaxy in episode 6, was also used before the OP in eps 3-5. - The one used when Alto hangs Sheryl's earring in his cockpit and Sheryl ascends the main stage to sing DC. Also used when the crowd gave Ranka a standing ovation at the end of 10 - The break beat track used during the Miss Macross contest as well as Sheryl's panty theft chase scene. - The BGM used before Grace tells Michael she's sorry about his sister - The one that plays when Sheryl kisses Alto in episode 10

Are you talking about the one liners for 11-13 we had a few weeks ago? The newtype spoilers are more detailed... either way got a link? Also I don't suppose any translator can give us the title for episode 14?

They were filming a commercial and he's off chatting on his phone while she's hanging in mid air, Sheryl while naturally playful takes work seriously, the writing lyrics on the Zentradi panties scene from episode 5 perfectly shows this.

Meh I don't mind, I fully expect it to be on the 2nd or 3rd OST. If it wasn't for the massive amount of insert songs it probably would've been on this first OST anyway.. or maybe because of its similarities to Take Off they wanted it to be on a different OST.
