  1. nero can burn flac to CD. there are other freeware that can do it as well but i'm no longer updated on those. http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/09/26/how-t...n-windows/#nero
  2. mostly true. i use EAC and LAME -V0 for mp3 encodes. through headphones, hard to distinguish. but running it through hi-fi speakers, the odds improve depending on the song.
  3. that is one BFG didn't realize it was that big from watching the episodes. but here it's shown to equal or even exceed the length of the VF (reminds me of the Bebop SwordfishII). presumably that explains its anti-capship capabilities
  4. aye, that seals it then. i'm still surprised they didn't list it in the credits as "Mystery Man" or "Man in Restaurant". they probably weren't expecting fans to be scrutinizing even the credits. if any of the production team ever browsed the MW Toys forum, they would/should have known better
  5. that depends. did the credits say grace o'connor or just the name of voice actor? if just the latter then it might still not be grace. if the first or both, that seems pretty conclusive. i'll be surprised though if they slipped up with the credits concerning a possibly major plot point.
  6. indeed, that could very well happen. i wonder if it will be of happy times yet have a melancholic tune. now, when this single comes out in the real world, i wonder what freebies they'll throw in?
  7. please god, nooooo! i'm having enough problems as it is getting through M7. what with mecha carrying speaker boxes and disco lights from the shoulders...
  8. man, i got goosebumps. they couldn't have thought of a better spot to use the aimo extended version. love what they did with the credits. truly gave it a movie feel. you know, when the movie ends in a theater and depending on how many people immediately leave you just hang in there waiting for bloopers or sneak peeks like in Iron Man. i feel for Sheryl though. pretending she was just faking it though you could see it wasn't. i really hope she gets her man.
  9. thanks mr. march. now i do seem to recall i had a U2 B-sides album. hope it's there.
  10. Mr. March you weren't by any chance pertaining to DMB and All Along the Watchtower? i'm curious to know where it was inspired from or what was inspired by it. i enjoyed the 3 comparison vids, and while i did find a couple of the songs (particularly mushroom) were too close for my own personal comfort, that didn't stop me from being more amazed at the vastness of the musical ground kanno has covered (pardon the pun), and how she built from them. in many cases i've ended up preferring her work to the inspiration sources, as oft times she made them so much richer. the drums in Cyberbird being a good example. now i'm off hunting down the "source" songs in the vids. if there is one thing that's undeniable, it's that kanno has good tastes
  11. that is correct. although to qualify that, it doesn't have to be the whole song/piece. taking or sampling a segment and using/integrating it unmodified is a no no. advertising agencies typically shift keys and "break" a few notes here and there when adapting a popular tune for use in a jingle or BGM. i've commissioned some ads before and often cite music i'm familiar with when i brief the agency. a couple of times they came back with heavily modified tunes that i could still recognize so to be on the safeside i asked the agency to secure artist permission despite their assurances that it wasn't necessary. true enough, it wasn't. in both cases, the artists concurred that it was already a different tune. what i learned is that: th hmn brn s vry gd n rcgnzng pttrns. if you understood that last phrase even though i took out all the vowels then you know what i'm talking about. same thing applies to music. edit: Battersea and Cyberbird are two of my all-time faves and usually follow eachother in my playlists. though i immediately thought of Battersea when i first heard Cyberbird, i dismissed plagiarism after just a few listens. about the only thing they share is the tonal quality of the vocals. btw, at the risk of being further OT, appreciate if anyone can point me to a video of Cyberbird performed live. i've always wondered how they managed to pull off those sweet drum sequences. thanks
  12. innocent green sounds like the opening of a Fra Lippo Lippi song (and no i'm not a fan, just liked their first single). i'm half expecting someone to come in and sing "Oooover thereee.."
  13. can't agree with you more. i don't want to do a Sheryl vs Ranka, as both singers are excellent and have their place and purpose in delivering the audio feel of the series, but in tems of depth and range of expression May'n simply outclasses the Ranka voice. this hasn't stopped me though from enjoying Ranka's What 'bout my star and actually preferring it the Sheryl version. the arrangement in the Folmo version suited Ranka's voice more. perfect example of using the right talent for the right feel, same goes for Sheryl in the songs she does. on a different tone, er, note, Private Army is rapidly climbing up my faves list. again, reminds me of something from GITS, but nonetheless unique on its own.
  14. just watched Robo---- Shadow Chronicles, and can i just say that i'm so thankful that the CG on MF turned out the way it did? i don't mean to go Robo-bashing but it's a prime example of what could go wrong based on the points mentioned earlier: movement - i've seen some clay animation with more fluidity than the alpha battroids detail - not bad really, but on the big ships i've seen it done better on PC games. EVE Online is probably the benchmark here choreography - the animators probably have an aversion to rollercoasters. most of the flight paths are just straight lines from A to B a shame really, as the movie setup some interesting premises and showed some potential of the series finally coming into its own. my point here is, that whether animation is done full-CG, full-hand drawn, or a hybrid, it is still a piece of movie making, and if it is to distuinguish itself, it ultimately must excel in the movie basics: composition, camera work, choreography, context. and i'm just glad MF delivered on these even on the 2D segments, and yes even in episode 8 (barring a few segments ). when nitpicking, it's all too easy to lose the big picture
  15. great OST. loving the "Twinkle" BGM (reminds of Fish~Silent Cruise from GITS SAC) but can't seem to place where it was used in the series. anyone remember? edit: yay, i'm now a waxer
  16. based on this screenshot, the ship is definitely floating above the asteriod--it's casting a shadown on it
  17. VF-1S hands down and don't let my callsign make you think i'm biased. here's why: - it's the classic, original poster boy - more stuff to play with (assuming you get the new 1/60) ie. you can expose the missile detail, or the fast pack, or you can swap the canon with a missile pack etc - it's not too big such that display space is not an issue plus, it's 30-40% cheaper!
  18. i wonder if she was named Klan-Klan because she has two of them? does anyone know what klan translates to in zentraedi? dang, these transit stopovers are definitely making my mind wander
  19. if sheryl does end up playing sara, ranka plays mao, and alto plays shin; wouldn't that be a nice homage and a frame as well to highlight the triangle.
  20. argh! now you've done it! i was blissfully unaware of this, but now i'm seeing it too!
  21. oooh.. me want! are there any pre-orders yet?
  22. panties+shower scene = ratings i'd like to think that word of mouth from ep7 is what got people watching ep8. but then again, maybe it was word of mouth that sheryl lost her panties (seems to have been highlighted in a lot of forums when the episode synopsis was leaked out)... i don't know if i'm going to be happy or wary about this
  23. you might want to reconsider that surprisingly, ep8 is the highest rated thus far http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...mp;#entry603283
