  1. I totally agree, and he's also somewhat of an ill-tempered troll. I totally appreciate that and no I'm not being sarcastic for once. I'll try to refrain from being mockingly dramatic for comedic relief in my posts from now on. I didn't intend for it to be taken seriously, sorry. Not being sarcastic may be harder though Sooo on topic.. does this thing have a cockpit? Did someone already mention this?
  2. Reading comprehension VF5SS, I never said/claimed the destroids were cheaper to produce because they don't transform. What I was attempting to portray was that it looks bad to an undereducated consumer that the price for a destroid is around the same as a VF-1. You would think they would want to make a decent but cheaper product for less risk. Not everyone cares about actual real value but more "perceived value". I also never implied I wanted them to make things specifically for ME. I'm simply questioning their business practices. I honestly probably wouldn't even buy a pod sooooo.... I do like that because I slightly disagree with your opinion that I'm an idiot though. Well at least we both love M7 and the VF-22s
  3. You have to keep in mind that retailers can really put the Squeeze on the companies. Retailers like Walmart are so big that you have to essentially give them whatever they want because if they don't buy your product you will go out of business. This can drive up costs substantially as well which is probably why we see these web exclusives even domestically. Examples of assorted demands by retailers -their own price point -own case assortments -store exclusives -amount of RTVs -they will buy an amount of x if you sell them the amount of y that they want (works both ways really) As an example Bandai America's domestic MSiA line was killed by the battle scarred line but that was what the retailers demanded. When stock of these items did not move as anticipated they ignored further solicitations. Stock was liquidated/RTVed somewhat at Bandai's expense. Companies used to go to retailers/chains for the safety net that having large preorders used to provide them. Thanks to the predominance and growing faith in ecommerce web exclusives are at least showing enough promise that the waters are being tested since technically it would be even lower risk. I just find this annoying because someday I'm going to have to buy the web exclusive extra hands and weapons sets for my RD RX-78 that I already paid ~$35 for.
  4. @Vostok 7 It's like collecting porcelain dolls, on some level it's still "weird/creepy" but it's not an "immature" hobby like collecting "toys". I wouldn't really say they're an investment though, I mean would you buy antique furniture and what not as an investment? It's really too bad you can't still walk into stores and find decent quality 1/6 merchandise anymore. 21st century had some really great stuff towards the end of their life. Sure the head sculpts were never any good but the clothing and accessories were almost on par with HT. Even Joe had a few select items that were pretty damn good. HT could really use some main stream competition.
  5. I knew this would be the general reaction and it's understandable as the Destroids are pretty good toys.Let's put this whole song and dance in perspective. After selling us repeated repaints of Version 1 VF-1s they finally break down and give us Q-Raus BUT they are terrible figures and MSRP around the same as the much better VF-1s. Yamato: "See they don't sell more VF-1s for you" Vocal collectors continue to clamor for enemy mecha. Yamato: "Okay we'll just rerelease the same Q-raus but this time the Milia pilot will be removed to save on costs" So we get The same terrible toys from like 10 years ago with no improvements, they've removed an accessory and it still MSRP around the same as the even better Version 2 VF-1s. Yamato: "See enemy mecha doesn't sell!" So we buy tons more repaint VF-1s version 2s and clamor for more non variable mecha. Yamato: "Okay, okay but it won't sell we can't do it. Look at the Q-Raus" Collector's: "They were terribly designed and expensive" Yamato: "Okay we'll make them good this time" What we got was actually pretty good not excellent and still just as expensive as their better designed version 2 VF-1s with none of the paint apps or tampo printing. I bought them, you bought them and die hards probably bought them but joe schmoe Macross fans probably didn't because you can get a much better buy in a version 2 VF-1. Basically they sabotaged the destroids by their price point. Now you guessed it.. Yamato: "See we made mass market good non variable mecha/destroids and NO ONE bought them! We're never doing that again" They never addressed the price point problem because they didn't want to. They should have just made destroids that were scaled up and slightly better than the ones released by matchbox/playmates (mostly in the joints department) and sold them at a MSRP around 4000-6000yen. I understand that Yamato is dedicated to producing quality items (QC issues not withstanding) so maybe this was not an option for them from a branding perspective. and for Gundam we had Glorious grade man.. It's not that great now but neither is PG. New HG is the new old MG and New MG is the old PG. Look at the toys overall generic good guys are all that really get the axe there's always the main heroics and the baddies in abundance.
  6. I agree with you for the most part but Gundam is kind of a bad example because the Zaku II is arguably as popular if not more so than the notorious Gundam itself.I think you could make a pretty strong argument that Yamato designed the Q-rau and Destroids to fail. So in a way it's really their fault for making it a self fulfilling prophecy. No, I don't think a pod would really be more "popular" than either the Destroids or the Q-Raus but wouldn't the smart thing to do then in a "bad economy" be offering something really cheap as a Yamato shop exclusive? not something really expensive? Maybe they'll do both? I mean this is kind of contradictory to what Graham had mentioned about their conservative ambitions for this year. I suppose maybe Bandai has forced their hand by moving into the Macross and M7 licenses.
  7. I don't really care about the Yamato web exclusives yet but Mattel is doing this too and it sets a bad precedent. I mean sure they can claim they are only selling them online because it's a small market but imagine how much more profit they make per unit since they are the producer, the distributor and the the retailer. Not to mention virtually no shrinkage to eat! Bandai is the worst offender since they essentially sell you incomplete figures at already fairly high prices and then if you want to complete said figures you have to purchase the web exclusive accessory sets. These aren't even limited to older possibly less profitable franchises but to current hot commodities like Code Geass Gundam OO and Macross F. It hasn't effected me personally yet but it might someday and that's fairly annoying. Magazine/event exclusives aren't really an issue because rarely are they really "new" just more repaints generally. Lucky draw/prizes/etc Oh well I'm just a きちくべいへい so oh well.
  8. Although it was obviously less detailed and smaller matchbox/playmates already did that cheaper I cannot say I agree with the "Well, you're just lucky/be thankful they even made one" crowd but I'm seriously curious about what they were thinking about when marketing these. Yamato's release assortments(?) remind me a lot of McHalos and their web exclusive love affair Mattel respectively. Web exclusives aren't much of a bother because of proxy services (or HLJ) but if they seriously can't afford to release anything but a generous amount of repaints of the same VF-1 design to make desired profits I fear for them. At some point you'd think they'd have to tap into something new like McFarlane has been doing with their newer waves that are almost all new sculpts. maybe all these expensive DIY kits are their new primary direction? Even Blue Box Toys(BBi) doesn't participate in the 1/6th or 1/18th market anymore, they've moved on. Yes, exactly. Thank you!
  9. I half expect there to be motorcycle action in this new movie in the vein of Torque or Biker Boyz. Of course maybe I'm way off base here.
  10. Last episode was pretty boring but definitely gave off that space madness feel.
  11. I was like "oooh, there's a highlander reboot?" but then I saw the Director and Producer... I think I'll just live with my memories of the tv series. Maybe I'll be surprised though. Thanks for posting areaseven, I hadn't run across this info yet so I might have missed it completely.
  12. The sponsors demand(ed) it I actually prefer the units that have normal looking antennas or no visible ones as opposed to the v-fin style myself.
  13. @VF5SS I think you're being unnecessarily critical. Bottom line the Queadluun Raus are shitty toys and that's why "they didn't sell well". Of course I find that argument debatable considering the Max version sold out before I could buy one the first time around. Personally I own both Q raus, the Milia figure set and the two destroids (I'd buy the Phalanx too if they released it since it's the one I actually wanted) so I think I've spoken pretty loudly about what I would buy with my actual money. Now if they made an improved Q Rau with ratchets and all that jazz in the generic colours it would probably sell better because you know maybe it would be a better toy actually but now we'll never see that because they half *ssed the first version and weren't impressed by it. I hope Yamato makes a lot of money on this Regult kit but it's obviously not marketed to me since I buy almost exclusively complete toys and not kits.
  14. I put together a slide show of some pics I yoinked from 1/6th Warrior. Some of them the lighting is a bit off but there's more than the kotaku article and a few of them are pretty titillating.
  15. I think it's a case where since they already did the ScarJo Silken Floss they wanted to do something different with the Black Widow. I'd rather her lips were not parted as well but when I get the production version maybe my opinion will change? It does make her look kind of too much like a real doll or something..
  16. Tamashii onry wings for Strike Freedom http://p-bandai.jp/tamashiiwebshouten/item-1000005679/ Looks beautiful but I don't care much for SEED personally.
  17. ScarJo as Black Widow http://kotaku.com/5534891/a-black-widow-of-your-very-own Now I get the opportunity to add the superior red headed ScarJo to my collection. This begs the question of will we see a HT Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool though?
  18. It doesn't look like they could do a 100% accurate CCA MSV version with the parts they have already. The head and feet for instance are basically completely different than either RD version. If they combined parts from the normal RD Jegan and the Stark they would come close though.
  19. Sorry for double post @Vostok 7 As luck would have it I actually found a comparison picture between the normal jegan and the stark someone else made up. http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/995/jegans.jpg
  20. You guys really got to cut that crap out. I dunno why you can't respect each others opinions when they're based on actual experience.. I want a view like this personally
  21. @Jasonc Monster is probably the last "good" anime I've seen. Rarely is a series ever so serious and devoid of humor and to me it was a great change of pace. I picked up Slayers Revolution finally not too shabby actually. Just wish these came out years ago.
  22. @Vostok 7 I'm sorely tempted on the MG FAGundam too and I've sworn off the models basically. Too bad they probably won't do an RD FAG to upgrade from the MSIA one.
  23. I preordered my Sniper IIs already and you can bet even if it's exclusive I'll be getting a few of the White Dingo types somehow.
