Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread
Dax415 replied to Dax415's topic in The Workshop!
i went to harbor freight and saw it there but ended up not getting it cause my job picked up and there wasn't anytime to work on any scratchbuilds or kits.......sort of like the mini samurai armor custom i was going to make out of aluminum (about the size of a 1/12 action figure)....i've still got the aluminum solder and the mini hand torch still in the package!! -
JBO How hard would it be to try and do up a game from scratch on this concept? The graphics are not elaborate and i'd only tweak a few of the game mechanics and combat characteristics of the mechs, but keep it essentially the same. What would I have to learn?
-
Cool!! Glad I wasn't the only one to enjoy this game, one of my favorites.

Was curious if this game could be used to make a macross game even though it was a turbo duo game (for those that don't remember it was supposed to be the next step up from the turbo grafx even though it was just a compact turbo grafx with built in cd player/reader for games). What I liked about it was it had elements of Military Madness and when the mechs fought you manuever the robots individually in a one on one battle.

Scratch Building/Model Modification Archive Thread
Dax415 replied to Dax415's topic in The Workshop!
hey guys, saw a $10 generic dremel like tool and small kit @ walmart. figured us modeler and customs guys may have need of one out there. also saw an inexpesive airbrush @ biglots for $8, my cousin got one and said it was good to do base coat with, but he doesn't like it for detail stuff. -
No real place for this topic, but I need opinions

every successful small business i know of has some sort of niche they fill.....he'll probably have to focus on that. For example a buddy of mine owns a gym,...talk about being in a tough business! to get people not to go elsewhere he got creative....offered 2 free training sessions, got staff to not simply stand their but text clients reminders on their cell phones (he's got it set up on a computer somehow) to actually come in to work out if they miss one of their scheduled workout days, has social events, leads offsite exercise challenges, etc.....the whole point was more attention, social atmosphere and fun variable workouts......so far its paying off. for your friend for example....if he goes adult video, offer some way customers can get their video without feeling like the rest of the town knows it. as for the rest of the product and business he'll need to do what is suggested before....reach out to get more customers, probably the net would be best considering he's in a small town. video games....offer discounted pre purchases and reduce the number of games purchased for the store itself so he doesn't have to eat it. even the big boys don't give big discounts on video games till further along down the road. no offense, but it sounds like video games are not going to be a big part of his business....probably more of a way to get some foot traffic in the door. hope this helps -
wow, those look really cool.....but are you sure those are from a MG 1:100 Zaku? i only ask cause i would like to be sure when i put a parts order in for hlj, thanks!

The Xbox 360 Thread Elite Edition
Dax415 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
got a quick question since i'm finally about to get a 360.... are the newer style controllers for the regular xbox compatible with the xbox360? i read in another forum that they are, but the connection point needs to be changed to a usb connector. i have a xbox controller that came with a headset that plugs into the controller, i was told it was one of the final runs for controllers for the regular xbox. was just curious if there was any truth to that, thanks. -
thanks guys!.....figured i would have to do what toboro sugested. i know this may sound blasphemous, but i don't like the heatshield being clear with paint underneath it at all. looks like some girls nails with nail polish. i'll probably end up casting up a new heatshield using some milliput and trying it out that way since the valk is only going to be various shades of dark grey.
-
customizing a brownie 1/48...... taking a look at it, things look fairly straight forward......but when i looked at the heatshield i wasn't sure how to paint it up without it looking like crap (the heatshield that is...) also, what paints do you recommend....i've seen some krylon paint specifically for plastic, you don't even need primer. i've used it on some old outdoor plastic chairs and it holds up well, but has anyone used it on a 1/48? i have other options like my own airbrush....just want to make sure to use the right paint. paint theme will be low vis 1 but my own minor spin on it. any pointers would be much appreciated as i look further into this.

I'm still in for 2 if that's possible!

Battlestar Galactica Discussion
Dax415 replied to HoveringCheesecake's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
hey guys, I'm saving up to buy the galactica series on dvd (i do not have cable or satellite) since I have not seen the new series before.....well actually i have seen an episode or two but that was it. I was curious if there were other combat ships besides Battlestars in the series? Not that I would want to see the focus away from a cool Battlestar and colonial vipers....but from a military stand point wouldn't it make sense to have some escort ships since a Battlestar is basically a combination aircraft carrier and battleship? thanx -

had a regular xbox question but wasn't sure where to post it. mods, if i need to post this separately or in another thread feel free to move it. the dvd drive is down and i wanted to upgrade it...it currently has the philips drive in it and my dad got a better one from a friend. problem is its the wrong connections, is there a way to make this work? where would i go to find out? or is it just best to scoop one up off of ebay to get this fixed? thanks -
man, while hunting around for Treasure Hunt Hot Wheels cars i've come across several of the 25th joes and the bigger joe figures....i was going to pick some of them up so i can trade it but wasn't sure which ones to get. i think zartan's crew look like ticked off village people rejects so i passed on those. shoot me a pm and i'll try and help out. i'll post my want list in my signature shortly. ....did anyone get the 3 pk with deep six...man was it tempting to get.

thanks for the answer guys, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss the boat on these. wonder what one would look like completed alongside john moscato's destroids!

was just curious if the second run of 1/72 kits were ever going to come out....i would really like a kit, just want to make sure i don't miss out. thanks

The Xbox 360 Thread Elite Edition
Dax415 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
oh man, guys...i've got a dilemna on purchasing the xbox360...Earlier i mentioned i got a 10% off coupon at target, but i forgot i also earned a $50.00 gift check on amazon.com . Additionally amazon.com gives free shipping and there is no sales tax since they are out of state. If i go with target then i got to pay 7.325% tax as well. The problem is amazon.com does not offer an additional warranty plan, but target does at 29.99 for 3 additional years. So the plan is to either buy the console at amazon.com or buy the console at target with the extended warranty and get my additonal controllers and play and charge kit at amazon.com opinions aprreciated....and yes, i find it hard to keep my Halo addiction in check everyday now that everyone else has Halo 3 but me -

Is the 3 years warranty now a standard warranty or do i need to buy the 3 year extended warranty offered through target? Looks like i'll be swooping in on a 360 premium, play and charge kit, and extra controller at target. I only considered costco because of their return policy since the 360 is not counted as a tv, camera, or computer yet. Thanks again for the help. dax -
The Xbox 360 Thread Elite Edition
Dax415 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hey guys, sorry to switch subjects but i was going to grab a 360 in anticipation of Halo 3. What I was wondering was what's your opinion on where I should buy a 360, costco (bundle) , target (premium edition plus I have a 10% off coupon good for one day) or a refurbished one at gamestop. Was also wondering what were must haves besides an additional controller and games of course......are the intercooler fans for the 360 really worth it? play and charge kit.....? The guy at gamestop said microsoft had a design flaw in the fan system on the older 360 since they didn't anticipate long playing times. If he were to chance not buying an extended warranty he said to wait till the premium editions came out with the hdmi connection because of the new heat sink and motherboard. Was just wondering what everyones thoughts were since i heard the wireless headset was utter crap. If I buy it at target I was hoping there would be a sale on the system around the time the game comes in so I could swoop in on everything at once. Thanks --Dax415 -
some people are finding them at Walmart?.....every so often i check both Walmart and Target and neither one has ever got any G.I. Joe stuff with the exception of Sigma 6 disporpotioned crap. (i would actually like it if it were properly scaled at 3 3/4 action figure size) So far Toys R Us and Kmart are the only stores carrying 25th Anniversary Figures, but Kmart is charging 6.99 or 7.99 for each figure. Looks like these are starting to get thrown up on Ebay.... does anyone know if the commando snake eyes and ninja storm shadow will be packaged individually?

Vinyl Model Kits....Acrylic Paint Ok to use on them?
Dax415 replied to Dax415's topic in The Workshop!
Sweet!!! Thanks guys, that answered a lot of what i need to cover....i have an airbrush so that will be a big help in itself. Just wondering what would you use to remove paint on a vinyl kit should i screw up somehow,....i'd hate to accidentally melt the kit while trying to get the paint off. thanks -
Hi guys, was just wondering if model kits made out of vinyl use our regular hobby acrylic paints or if there were other paints that needed to be used. i only ask cause i saw some spray paint at home depot which said it was for vinyl so it got me thinking. thanks
