Hot Damn, this will be my first purchase of a GBP set since the old 1/55s way back in the day. **Mouth Watering**

The story was quite easy to understand, even without watching Robotech or Macross. I'm going off of a group of friends that watched it about a year ago for the first time. The backstory is spelled out enough to get the idea of what is going on. As far as being fragmented, I can understand that. That subjective opinion has been voiced before. I guess it really depends on each individual. I've always been under the belief too, that the movie was always a "thank you" to the fans, and just a supplement, not the be all, end all for that time segment of the Macross franchise. If you thought this movie was fragmented and whatnot, I hope you watched the classic Akira...now that's a mindf!@k, if I ever saw one.

I've been reading through the Rt.com forums, as well as here, and I started seeing this debate about "HG can use any design they want" crap. What occurred to me is this...why the hell would they? Knowing that Japan is a huge market for Live action Movies in general, it makes sense that WB wouldn't use any of the original designs, even if they had free reign to do so. If they did, they probably wouldn't be able to show it in Japan, thus killing part of their profits. I was also thinking, how is Japan going to welcome the LAM should it be made? Are they going to even recognize it as a Macross copy, or maybe not even care? Or, will they truly love it? The idea of fanboyism convoluting the facts to promote their beliefs is going to persevere no matter how many times you present the plain facts. They can't take in the facts that seem to contradict their world. It's been something I've had the pleasure of laughing at for many years on various forums, as I'm sure we all have. What does make this thread interesting is the fact that we know the lines that were drawn in the courts years ago, yet so much of it is still debated by people who simply don't have all the facts. I don't pretend to have them all either, as do many of the Robotech fans. It is good to read some of the posts here that spell it out from a most objective and factual point.

I ordered 2 copies at Kinokuniya Los Angeles on 7/22/09. Supposedly, I was told 2 weeks for shipment, so I'm hoping by this friday. It came out to just over $40 for each. Don't know what day you tried to order from them, but they were happy to put the order through for me. Will let you know if I get mine. -

that sounds like a lot of fun. Just hope I can get the day off. -
I just watched Macr Zero again (dubbed) and is it me, or does Edgar have an odd voice to go with the character? Doesn't seem like that voice fits the character, however, the mixing and work you put in Hikuro is decent. It's good to see what you got so far.

Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes and condolences. I appreciate it. As for the temperature here in SoCal, it's a bit warmer, but hasn't peaked above 90. My apartment is burning hot though, and it makes for a good weight loss program.

OK, so it took me awhile to get back on here, but yeah, I've been having problems for several days, mainly in the morning, early afternoons. Whatever is going on, hope it fixes itself.

No, not good at all. There was a passing in the family, so everything was put on hold, and still is, but while I'm not working for the time being. I'm trying to get back to some of the things I've put on hold.

Hikuro, sent you a pm regarding my turn of events. As I'm back at home now, let me know if you still need that voice. So far, it sounds alright. Good stuff.

If there's a need next year for some help, I'd like to help. I think I've been around long enough to know the deal. Just let me know, and I'll do what I can. 10th year should be something special -
OK, so you have someone to play the old guy?

I hope you know I was just joking. I do respect anyone who puts the work out, and for some things, financial compensation may be necessary. Like Pete, I like Gubaba's style of research for translation, and the sheer love of the franchise carries a long way. The photoshop work I've done can be tedious at times, but I do that just so that my fellow MWers at some point may be able to enjoy what they support already, on another level (other than just looking at the beautiful pics). I bought 2 copies of the 1st issue, and am awaiting my 2 copies of the 2nd. So, hopefully Gubaba will be satisfied with the amount of time that's gone by with the 1st issue, and may decide to have it as a download or something.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
What was really great about the con this year is that the door opened up for many more people to come that probably wouldn't have. More people probably felt like this was a "for everyone" event, and not so board exclusive. I think with the tremendous success of this con, it should be a precursor to an even bigger one next year, especially since it'll be the decade celebration of the MWcons.. I'm getting many half done customs together and will be wrapping them up over the year so that I can actually submit something for next year. This was so much fun, and I'm still on a high from all the fun. Great meeting those I haven't met before, and great to see the regulars of the cons. Hope all you who made other plans, or couldn't make it this year realize that you HAVE GOT TO GET OUT HERE for MWcon. -
I found Tommy's presentation on Photoshop very interesting, and he was a very nice guest. I found it a bit odd that Macross fans who already don't have the same gullibility as the rabid rt fans got the same answers regarding the movie. That's not a knock on Tommy, but I think they are so used to dealing with fans who'll eat up whatever they say, that they may have the idea that everybody eats it all up. My wife was there, and the questions came after the presentation. Somehow, the Kasdan name was put into a conversation where it was suggested that Kasdan was still working on the RT LAM. We all know that's not the case, but she remembered that of all things. I asked him a couple questions, but they were more along the lines of a certain product, and his own personal opinions. I'll leave it at that, but the questions came from Macrosstech fans (my definition of fans for both series) while Tommy was wrapping up his computer and equipment. I think some of you guys are over reacting a bit about Tommy being there. He didn't invade the con, but was there to give a presentation about something not directly related to Robotech. He was there as a Macross fan, as I know he is. Nothing more. I think I would've been ticked if the whole HG staff showed up, along with a bunch of RT.com crashers. The people who came were just fine, and actual fans of Macross. Why turn away fans, even if they have strong disagreements in our status quo?

These posts are getting longer and longer. I guess we'll find out what Toynami's big announcement is in a couple days. My guess is that it could be the Maia Beta with "synchro cannon". Or the Yamato stealth, I mean, Toynami Stealth 1/100. Or some other stuff that I heard, that may not be all that great. I'd like to hear the news of that stuff.

Ahhh, that's what I figured. Gubaba, how about we ask for donations for our work? LOL What a cash cow

Wow, had no clue that someone else was doing these in english. What kinda help were you requesting?
-
I'll get something together tomorrow for you and send it out.

I have yet to see a Shadow Chronicles cosplayer. It doesn't necessarily mean the movie was unsuccessful, but take Macross Frontier for example. It isn't advertised here at all, has no english dub, and yet, every convention I've been to, there are cosplayers, tons of model kits for sale, people who sing the songs, and loyal followings that can't wait for more. This, all in the country where they aren't allowed.

OK, some pics Sorry I can't shrink these. Never been able to shrinnk them properly. -
This is probably the reason why BW hasn't even bothered talking to HG. Wether or not everyone trusts the internet for purchasing, the fact is, there are more and more people that do everyday, and the commerce and internet buying traffic is growing exponentially. BW knows that wether or not there's someone working here in the U.S. selling there stuff for a cut of it, it wouldn't matter. They sell it over here anyways. In just going to the AX 09 con, there were so many cosplayers of Macross Frontier, and some of Mac7, you'd think it was a huge mainstream release here in the U.S. Now let me ask you, how many cosplayers of Shadow Chronicles do you see? These aren't the tell all proof, but a damn good case why you'll never see BW working with the same people that they feel (wether right or wrong) cut them out by taking the name Macross. Macross has a world market, and it's exclusively for Japan. It doesn't need to "sleep with the enemy" to survive. HG does their business in there way, and they are successful, and BW, Yamato, and all those associated only in Japan do business their way, and they have their own success.

Awesome pics, and good times seeing the old and new people. It was different not seeing some of the regulars around, but for all that showed up, you all helped make it a very special 2 days. Special thanks to the UCLA crew for letting Macrossworld set up and for making it a very organized and fun event. Also, thanks Tommy for the great presentation on Photoshop. Lots of great stuff in there to learn and use. Thanks Bee for the organization and for getting it all together with sponsors, and for cool raffles, thanks NMB4M for the awesome SDF-1 cake, and for all the great karaoke, games, and everything that I didn't get to put a face or name to. Awesome work. We will have some pics up soon.
