Let's hope no one receives theirs with broken head lasers.

Some people prefer their mecha to all look like big, bulky linebackers. Kawamori should have added molded pecs on the VF-31's chestplate.

Attached the fast packs on my YF-19 last night and you pretty much covered everything I was going to mention. That's Bandai's "amazing" engineering for you. Will add that the tabs fit very poorly into the leg armor slots and pop out if you breathe on them too hard. If you thought the YF-19 was "gappy" before, it gets worse once everything is attached. Plain fighter I could minimize the gaps, but forget about it with fast packs. Trying to minimize the gaps just causes the wing tab to pop out, or something else to misalign. Wings feel pretty flimsy at this point too, because now the there's only one tab holding it to the legs. That's right, if you loved the floating tab eyesores of the VF-19 Advance, you'll love them on the YF-19! So while I like this toy well enough, and the YF-19 is one of my favorite valks, it's nowhere near a flawless release or some kind of piece of brilliant engineering. I'm still keeping my Arcadias.

LMAO!

Received my 3rd copy from Amazon JP. Head laser is intact, but the protective plastic had a pretty sizable dent in it where the laser clearly stabbed into it during whatever jostling it encountered on its trip here. Great job on the packaging, Bandai.

Great collection! -
If we're still talking about the quality of the engineering, then the 29 shares the same weaknesses as the 25, with the added bonus of shoulder pauldrons that pop off if you look at them the wrong way.

Your beef is with Kawamori's design. My remarks were about Bandai's engineering. Which you agreed with. The 25 is one of my favorite designs, but the engineering of the toy is lacking, with its floppy joints, questionable use of diecast, inadequate locking mechanisms, and cheap glossy finish. Bandai's VF-31 and Bandai/Arcadia's YF-19s are much better engineered. By the way, as much as I love the VF-1, the way the wings are stowed in battroid is actually much less practical. They simply get in the way of leg movement. They get in the way on the toys and would be in the way if a battroid was real. Try running around with a sandwich board strapped to your back if you don't think it's problematic. No one likes saggy uni-boobs.

If we're counting all the 19 variants, I have 14. 16 if you count the old Hi-Metal versions... but no one does. -
Agreed. The 31 series is Bandai's best engineered line of valks. Agreed there too, but they win that title by default. Everything Bandai did prior to that was vastly inferior, even the Frontier renewals, as much of an improvement over the incredibly awful first wave Frontier toys they were. When you hit rock bottom, the only place to go is up. I'd love to see Bandai revisit the 25 series and give us something on par with the 31. Or Arcadia. I really don't care who does it, I want a new and improved VF-25!

Transformed first unit. Nothing broken though the rear stabilizers can pop out pretty easily. She just needs a panel wash!

Ugh the gigantic UN SPACY text on the starboard wing is so obnoxious...

Just received my 2x YF-19s. Opened both up to check for busted head lasers. Was pretty apprehensive as the first one I opened had the inner cardboard top rubbed shiny right where the head laser was located under. Luckily both lasers were intact. Still have a third coming from Amazon, so that's just another chance to get Bandai'd. Not to mention the other issues mentioned once I take them out to play with them...

About a week before the release date.

Finally got shipping notice from Amazon. That was a hella long "we're preparing your shipment." Should be happy they didn't just cancel on me. My other two from HS and Amiami are still in transit. This is probably the slowest EMS service I've ever seen. I'd be irritated if I wasn't busy with work and won't have time to mess with them till Friday anyway.

Saburo I'm afraid I'm going to have to break into your home and steal that.

Looks great! Almost makes me wish I still had my old 1/48s. Thanks and I'll take them off your hands. -
Yeah I see a bunch of folks getting Bandai'd. Mine should arrive tomorrow or Friday so here's hoping nothing broken or missing on it.
-
Getting Bandai'd is a long and proud tradition for collectors.

Already said it before: broken head lasers are most likely the result of some rough handling and poor packaging by Bandai. I doubt the head lasers are coming out of the mold broken or knowingly placed into the box broken. Had similar issues with the head laser on the VF-27. One I received slightly bent and another had the paint rubbed off the tip. Because the laser was right up against the cardboard top with no clearance. Bandai should know better about packaging. God forbid a package might endure some rough handling during shipping.

It should take the VF-4 spot. That one doesn't belong in that era!

That 1J in the middle looks fabulous!
