  1. I got a junk Strike VF-1A in yahoo japan and received it. I bought it for the Strike parts (which the condition is fairly good) but the main valkyrie has yellowed. I plan to paint it later on so the first step is remove the paint. Anyone know if leaving it swimming in alcohol will help remove it or do I need a stronger chemical?

And in the talk of aesthetic, I have an unpainted VF-1A (the reason I got those strike parts) but the Canopy has a small tint of yellowing. I tried to polish it (along with the seamline removal) but I never get to see it to return to its normal clear color. I currently have clear red and blue paint, what do you supposed is the better color to go along a mostly GRAY valkyrie? (I can also combine both to have a purple tint)

Hey chyll2. Looking forward to your VF-1 project. ;)

I have some ideas on your questions based on what I saw from some old videos from Japanese GunPla masters at YouTube. Don't ask about what channel/user since I forgot. Hehehe. :D

About leaving the valk with alcohol, I don't think that's a good idea since some parts have metal/diecast in it. Not sure if it will affect on the metal. But if it's white valk, then you just want to remove the painted stripes and tampo, correct? You can just use some cotton swabs and alcohol, I guess. (Again, correct me if I'm wrong here my dear fellow MWers. ^_^ )

As for the canopy did you use Tamiya Compound? From what I remember on the videos is that he just used the compound and made the canopy glossy again. Remember that this is after he sanded the seam line on the canopy. So I guess that will help restoring the canopy. For gray valk, can I suggest a light/washed yellow gold tint instead? ;)

    QUESTION

Ok, I have some few noob questions as well related to our valk. I started/tried using Tamiya Accent Panel Wash directly on Alto's Tornado Parts and somehow I like what I'm seeing. I didn't gloss topcoat the valk before applying the wash. I just cleaned the parts with light mild soap and damp cloth. Question would be is:

    1. Is it ok if I didn't apply topcoat afterwards since I'm planning on transforming the valks from time to time. Would the panel wash will still remain intact w/out topcoat?

    2. If I also applied some waterslide decals on the valks, would it still be ok to not to apply topcoats? But I'm planning on using MicroSet/Sol on the said decals. Reason is the same as I would love to transform the valk from time to time.

I'm not so sure if the topcoats will get scratched when the valks are transformed since some of the transforming parts are too close with each other.

    Anyways, thanks in advance. ;)

  2. Just finished the game last weekend. And I'm puzzled on what ending I received. I heard they were three endings. But in what way I could see which ending I got? Is it thru the movie gallery? If so, how will I know if I got the Mina one or the Aisha one? Thanks in advance. ;)

By the way, if I'd only known that majority of the valks will be available after I started the New Game Plus feature I would've saved all the parts for creating Rank 2/3 valks. Oh well. Atleast most of the valks I like it's already in Rank 2. Anyone started the New Game Plus with Ultimate? How 'ultimate' it is compared to 'normal'?

  3. Back again. Got busy from my son's first 2 weeks at Kindergarten. All those meet the teachers, parents, etc. :p Anyways, would love to share some pics I took of VF-4G since I was planning on replacing the hands with the Hobby Base Mechanical Square Hands since the hands that came with it is too small for the Battroid mode. From the looks of it, it looks nice and well-proportioned IMHO. ^_^ The only gripe I have on this Mechnical Hands is the moment it creates a stress on the finger joints, the one that connects to the knuckle area, it's done. Btw, the shade of the grey I'm using is the same shade as the neck area.

I'm sure everyone posted cool photos for the last 2 weeks. I'll start back-browsing tonight. Hehehe.

Forgot to mentioned that this VF-4G already suffered his first injury. The tailfin kinda stuck in the cabinet. Good thing it still semi-attached to it so I put a small dab of superglue.

  4. Not just the parts but also the Valks cost a fortune! at this rate I might have to sell a kidney to afford one!

P.s. Don't get me started on the customs & excise duty either (UK at 20%) I think that every shippment should come with a free tub of Vasseline!! (Lol)

True. The lesson I learned from collecting expensive toys such as Yamato/Arcadia/BandaiDX is that you really need to sell a liver or a kidney. Hahaha! Just kidding. On a serious note, always set a limit. Don't force or pressure yourself on buying what you really can't afford. I know there's credit cards and all that stuff but always put a limit. Don't max out just because you want this one specific valk which you know it will take awhile before you finish paying for it. And while doing that, another new one will be announced. I know it sucks that this hobby is not for everyone. I still envy members who has multiple copies since they can display all the modes along with their individual add-on parts. But I'm trying hard not to level with them (in terms of buying multiple copies) coz I know in the end I'm the one who's going to suffer by paying credit card debts.

  5. Haha... I am glad you got it. :) Looking forward to your pics. I guess I'll just stare at the pics I took of Valkyrie Magnus' VF-4G. Maybe I should print out a poster of it. :)

Can I get one poster too? But send me the highres first and let's photoshop it and make a Flashback2012 version. ;)

Congrats on your VF-4G purchase!! :)

Thanks spanner! I can retire now from Macross stuff. Well, until they'll release again another Red and Stripe Valk. And a reissue of VF-4G Hikaru version. But now, need to heal my bleeding wallet.

Woah nice! Congrats on the VF-4G(rail)! I'd love to have one in the future, but yeah priorities.

Thanks abbadon. You will have one for sure. And true, priorities first. ;)

And....Boom! :-) Congratulations Noel! That's a really cool valk you got there!

Thanks brouken! It is really a cool valk. I totally forgot my YF-30 after holding this one. It looks awesome in fighter mode. I guess that's the best mode. Gerwalk mode not so much. I find the long legs kinda awkward and can't do a proper A-stance. And battroid mode looks nice. Limited on the arm movement but it will do. And it comes with small hands. Hehehe. But overall, happy with the purchase. ;)

Hope Arcadia gets the mold soon.

I hope so too. Will PO as soon as they will announce a Hikaru scheme. ^_^

I've got both of the VF-0'S with Ghosts Very Nice, I also Have the M&M VF-1J'S But the box art is different Blue Box for Max and Red for Miriya or Millia if you prefer, think they must be older versions?

I've got some pretty big gaps in my Macross collection though money was tight back then and still is!

    Missing Large Yamato YF-21 & VF-11B Thunderbolt,Not to mention The SDF-1 Sob,sob.

Welcome macster1971! Enjoy your stay here. Post some photos next time so we can see those gorgeous Valks. ;)

  6. Yes, both of my 30's have loose knee joints in Gerwalk. Both in the left leg. It makes posing difficult sometimes as it doesn't hold well.

Thanks Mommar. Did you fix this problem? Or is it repairable? Thanks. ^_^

    Aerial view comparison.

Nice shot. Just photoshop/blur the 'carpet' background and add some faded white stream on the wings and they look like flying over desert.

  7. Oh, good then. Respite for my wallet if that is so. Thanks! :p

Good for you. Your wallet got a breather there. ;)

No. That was a change, but Bandai released many new official pictures showing all the changes--they wanted people to know.

I see. Didn't know that. Thanks. All the images I saw via Google has that green tint. So I was wondering what happened there since the green kinda looks nice with the yellow stripes. ;) And then later on, all I see was the purple tint canopies.

  8. P1090138_zps295807ec.jpg

Nice shot, TCracker! Love the pose. ^_^

Are people still looking for YF-30? I guess every one already have it by now. I'm considering bringing in Macross product, want to see the market for it, so i'm checking in with the community.

This is interesting. ^_^ Is it going to be still at SRP? And if so, what other Macross products you're thinking?

YF-30 Question: Did anyone got a copy that has a slightly 'loose' knee joint when in Gerwalk mode on one of the legs? Thanks.

  9. Oh man! January for the VF-1J w/ GBP then VF-0D for February? I have lots on pre-order for October and November. I don't know what else will be announced for December. God save my wallet!

I thought VF-1J w/ GBP will be released on May 2015? January I believe is the opening for the preorders. Could someone verify if this is correct? I remember seeing the photos here that says 2015/05: http://tinyurl.com/owrmyez

    *snip

Heck, Bandai's no different. The Ozma YF-29 and Grace VF-27 "official pic' paint patterns do NOT match the actual production item. (the pre-production ones are more accurate).

Is this the same why the YF-29 30th have 'purple' canopy when released instead of the 'green' canopy from the promo pics?

maybe they where hoping people would be all, "oh man, that blue looks so good, it's so vibrant and awesome and reminiscent of a cool characters ride instead of the shitty, dull grey-blue from the OVA and that butt-nugget shin."

Hahaha! Somehow I don't feel bad about Shin anymore. He's lucky since his VF-0D got green-lit for release.

I like the blue, I acknowledged it wasn't the same blue as in the Anime, but I still think it's attractive.

I like the blue too. ^_^ Sometimes I wonder if the color IS really the issue.

if I have an AB, I would try this salt weathering to add color fade ^_^

    http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/57027-salt-weathering-techniques/

That mod looks cool. But I don't want to ruin an expensive toy. Hehehe.

After we purchase the brighter blue VF-0D , they will probably release a limited Weathered version, (which will have the correct blue)

Imagine the reactions from members who buy multiples to display all modes. :D
