  1. Put me down for one additional. So two tota for me. Thanks
  2. I am going to get one of each so I am down for 1.
  3. As mentioned run a few light coats of future through the airbrush then panel line away with oil. Try it without turpenoid first. In my experience the oil did not need to be thinned. I use Payne's grey with a little white mixed in. Great job on the kit so far!
  4. It's crazy this is the third Max 1A to go up this week! Great job!
  5. I think that photoshop has already ruined it for me as there is no way it will look that cool out of the box. Great job!
  6. That looks incredible. I like that the 4 trapezoids on the chest have been panel lined. Great work. When can we order it?

Very cool. Are you gonna recast it?
  8. Looks fantastic. Are you sanding down parts for clearance during xformation and if so which ones?

Not that long maybe 6 nights scattered over two weeks. Much faster than my low viz custom. This was just going to be a guinea pig for the plastikote and fusion paints, but I got really into it. Basically received the hikaru that had a botched panel line job done to it so black ink had run/smeared all over it. Dunked everything except the legs in Pine sol and sanded what was left of the paint. I didn't primer it just airbrushed light grey Tamiya over the white bare plastic for all the panel lines and then drybrushed the streaks on with oil paints. Blue Plastikote saved alot of time as only needed about 4 light coats. Followed up with Darker blue Tamiya airbrushing for panel lines and careulian blue oil paint for the streaks. The pilot fitting was the only real difficult part as you need to shave down the seat on the early 1/60s that didn't come with a pilot.

I know took some liberties with the scheme. But the stripes on the arms and the arrows on the head are already panel lined so I couldn't resist. Also I think it breaks up the blue and unifies it with the white more. That is a cool 1/55 custom. I don't know if I have the patience to decal up mine.

Are you using the plastikote/fusion paints? The plastikote blue is less vibrant than the Fusion that is why I picked it.

Thanks for all the kind words. Plastikote is really great and I highly reccomend it for use on plastic. Just use it lightly. I also used White Fusion on the diecast legs per EXO's advice. The blue plastikote stuck onto the white fusion paint on the diecast legs with no problems. This is probably the #1 reason this sucker only took like a few nights to do. Also thanks to Exo for the recast pilot figure he gave me like two years ago when we first met. Also used Pinesol to strip off the original Hikaru scheme on the plastic parts. Before I did this custom I never really cared for the Max 1A but I really like the scheme now and will try it on a 1/48.

This wasjust a quickie to play around with plastikote and fusion. This 1/60 was a botched Hikaru that was donated to me I was originally just gonna do a Kakizaki but wanted to give the max scheme a whirl. The soft shading is done with an airbrush, and oil paints for the streaks.

  16. How noisy are the industrial compressors that you get at home depot? Any details on the $100 compressor on ebay?
  17. EXO Damn impressive work. You really got the feel and spirit of the character's face on that Hikaru. Can't wait to see this finished.
  18. Regular Enamel paints will destroy the sculpey. Had a sculpture almost melt from the stuff. You must use acrylic enamels only. I would sand away the parts if you can and recoat it with Tamiya acylic enamels. Also if you are not already doing it use super sculpy as it is a better sculpting medium.
  19. Need to repaint the legs for a 1/60 custom. What do you guys use for the diecast parts? Thanks Steve
