I don't really understand why everyone is so surprised at this. In terms of the Valkyries, just about EVERY initial release had some sort of problems, some were fixed, others were not.

Macross Ii Anime Film Awesome! *heavy Spoilers!*
Skull Leader replied to retroborg's topic in Movies and TV Series
Wrong. It's not part of canon Macross continuity at all. period. At best it exists as a separate AC (I'll borrow the term from Gundam fandom for a bit) timeline that goes from DYRL, to the numerous Super CD and PC98 games and then on to Macross II... even that is pushing it. (along those lines it's like people ASSUMING that just because one of Silvie Gina's grandmothers was meltrandi that it MUST'VE been Milia 639... there isn't any connection other than what fans are trying to bring to the table.) -
This site, for all it's enormity for the english-speaking Macross fan, is but a mere drop in the bucket. Not only could Yamato do perfectly fine without us, we're LUCKY they notice us at all.

I learned that quite some time back. For the longest time I assumed ALL radar-guided air-to-air missiles performed the same way. I later learned otherwise.

The thing you have to remember about the phoenix missile is, it was designed to flight a non-existent threat (wave after wave of Soviet bear bombers during the ass-end of the nuclear scare... it turns out that they had far fewer Bear bombers than we thought they did). what it was NOT designed to do was fight the much smaller "fast-mover" community. While the AIM-54 has a speed of well over Mach 3, it has a turning radius like a SR-71 Blackbird flying at top speed (which isn't really much of a turning radius at all). Which basically means it's easy to dodge. Even the slightest turn could defeat the shooting solution if it was timed right. Even your most basic fighter jets today could fumble an AIM-54 without too much effort (if they knew it was coming) So in reality it's only good against two kinds of targets: Those that are slow and turn ponderously (heavy duty prop-driven bombers), or Super Sonic targets that can't really turn (other fighter jets in a high speed run, or Jet bombers which turn like your average chevrolet)

Ah, so they CAN be released sans-radar lock. It's a shame that we had such an expensive weapon system that was so finnicky (to those who have no idea what I'm talking about, read back a page or two, when a pilot would "fire" a phoenix missile, it would just as often drop off the rack and NOT fire as it would actually go), we only fired one in anger, and we can't even confirm if it destroyed it's target or not! Still, it was never designed to be an anti-fighter missile, so I guess it's to be expected.

That's pretty much how things are in AC0. You can't get all the aircraft playing through one time, and instead of specifying a certain special weapon for each variant, they went back to having 3 different special weapons, two of which you have to purchase.

But is it closer to 4 than to 5? 5's replay system was rather lackluster in comparison to 4. 394723 Sadly I think it's closer to 5 than anything, but sometimes you can get some really cool moments Sze, I'll see what I can do about getting you my AC4 save

I find it incredibly funny that "Robotech sells" and they're proving this through DVD sales, yet they can't afford to pay ADV to market their new series... (I'm thinking ADV probably smelled a sinking ship and jumped overboard before they lost money on a bad project) -
I wouldn't call it any marked improvement... AC4 still has the best replays as far as I'm concerned.
-
Watching the replay was like watching the final duel between Isamu and Guld in Macross plus The "realistic" mode was a plus!

One of the prototype Tomcats was configured as a single-seater (it was their engine test frame I think). And before you ask, no it didn't look any different. They simply removed the seat and most of the stuff from the rear tub area. And unless I'm mistaken, radar missiles generally won't fire unless they're locked on to something (I could be wrong about this, can't remember). Plenty of sidewinders have been "boresighted" in vietnam against ground targets, but if a sparrow hit anything on the ground, it's because the Phantom was too low to the ground when it launched it (sparrow is a "drop-fire" weapon) and it hit something on the ground before reaching the mig racing at tree-top level. The Phoenix missile is the same way (it drops away from the aircraft before the rocket motor fires). Because of this, even if you could fire the missile without first aquiring a "tone", it would be difficult to boresight it simply because there's no telling for sure what the missile will do once it leaves the LAU-92.

Yes, but not overtly. Hrtbreak 1 is one of the Allied aircraft in one of the missions. The carrier Kestrel is also in one of the earlier missions. Not exactly. Sony owns Poliphony Digital, hence GT games only on Sony consoles. Ace Combat is a Namco franchise. And Ridge Racer, another Namco franchise that launched with the PSX, recently made the jump to 360... In any case, who picked it up yet? I freaking love the game. It's like a subtle blending of 4 and 5. Like 5 - Controls, including wingman controls, the fact that you have wingman with names and what not, the setting, missions where you shoot things around castles. Like 4 - Computer briefing instead of fat guy, return line on some missions, Excalibur (think Stonehedge), return of the buying of special weapons, slightly less story than 5. My one gripe? While replaying the game to earn all the planes and medals will add length, there are only 18 missions. While that puts it at Ace Combat 4 length, five kinda spoiled me. On the other hand, while there were some truly awesome missions in 5, there were some crappy ones as well (both of the ones were you had to fly in between radar balls, the one where you had to hit the targets in sync with the wingmen, etc), and so far, I've enjoyed all the missions in Zero. I also like how this one gives you a little bit more in the way of choices. Like, in 4, you started with the F-4 and you liked it. In 5, you were flying the F-5 for awhile before you had the option to fly anything else. In Zero, you had three from the get-go, and I rather enjoyed flying the Draken for awhile. Of course, I unlocked the Su-37 WAY to quickly, and ever since the other planes just haven't been worth it. 394642 You get to unlock the 37 really early, but it's ages before you can afford the damn thing, so it kinda evens out I think!

I'm with David. It might've been able to fly, but it would sure as hell need all the lift it could generate minus the outboard wing panels... hence the variable incidence wing-body would be in the raised position. (they just said it could fly.. they didn't specify how good. I'm wagering a pilot wouldn't want to go into combat like that.)

Got news for ya, Bud. That ain't AF1. The video is a hoax (a very expensive one). It was debunked on MSN a couple of days ago.

Yeah whatever what?

I supported RIFTS and a number of other palladium games for a while. I'd CONSIDER giving him money if he'd come clean on the situation.

*flinch* I figured you'd be above a fallacy like this one... Nothing in the MacII RPG books should be accepted in any way as canon. Kevin Siembieda took a great number of liberties (lncluding a couple of mecha names) with the material he was given (a half-translated copy of the "This is Animation Special" book). Same goes for any kind of stats. They were mutilated to better fit in with his bastardized RPG system, he pretty much re-molded MacII to be compatible with his little world. -
Yeah, I wonder what's in this combo,, will it be the Orange GM or a Rx-79G gundam. I'm betting on the normal Orange GM this time since if its was a Gundam it would most likely would have been label that instead of GM sniper. I hope they comes with HoverTanK and both huge backpacks of thiers. 392972 Well since all the GM sniper is is a Ground-type GM with a friggin huge laser rifle, I imagine that's what it will be... all they'd have to do is repaint the figure in the desert cammo, give it a shield and an autocannon (or beam-rifle) and they'd be good to go... (unless they REALLY go out of their way and give you the Ez-8... which would hella rock)
