  1. I remember reading somewhere that it was plastic, guess I was wrong. but what do I know, I don't shoot nikon.
  2. OH MY GOD, THERE WAS SO MUCH AWESOME I HAD A F***ING SEIZURE!!! As an aside, I now desperately want to drop nearly $500 to get the yamato M&M VF-22's even though I'm broke. thanks
  3. I don't trust anything with over 6x optical zoom. and I don't trust anything with a plastic mount (so I wouldn't be buying the 35mm)
  4. for a first lens I'd recommended one of these. http://nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Produc...5.6G-IF-ED.html http://nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Produc...5.6G-ED-VR.html they're slower and more expensive than a prime, but the versatility of a zoom lens in that range is really good for starting out.
  5. Of course not, you can't expect a man of his incalculable brilliance to be arsed with such minor details as factual evidence and logical reasoning. who the hell do you think he is? he's the Goddam Doug Bendo! all this thread is missing is pizza the hut to reveal his SUPER SECRET MW spy acount, then we'd have a perfect storm of failure.
  6. no because the PROTECT Act only covers sex related things. It's perfectly ok to talk about/visually depict the murder of children, just not having sex with them :edit: but you did use a gun in the commission of your fictional murder so you're probably violating some sort of gun control legislation
  7. that's kind of my point. based on previous supreme court rulings, and the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, it's protected free speech and they aren't considered real people; as you said. BUT, the most recent application of the most recent law (This case and the PROTECT Act) relating to this subject says otherwise. It may not be right and it may very well be struck down in the future by a higher court, but until somebody with a better case than this sap challenges the law legal grounds still exist to say that cartoon characters can be treated as actual minors for legal purposes.
  8. Most of those I do see the connection, but the actual conclusion of Megazone part III doesn't seem like the ending of the matrix trilogy. The ending of the Matrix (as I understood it) was that Neo agrees to go on a suicide mission to stop agent smith and restore the matrix for the machines and in exchange the machines would stop trying to wipe out zion. Neo wins, the Matrix is restored and the machines decide to give humans the freedom to choose whether or not to stay in the matrix. I don't see how this relates to the actual ending of Part III. In Megazone 23 it's (as far as i can tell) never explicitly stated why shogo had joined with Eden's core but in any event it's functionally a very different thing. in the Matrix Neo dies and is just carried away. shogo becomes corrupted by the system and actually start using it to try and undo everything he did in the first two films (i.e. bringing humanity back to earth). also Megazone 23 part III had an actual conclusion to everything (the real Eve leaves with Edens computer core to dismantle ADAM and get rid of the last of the computer's controlling humanity), the matrix is just "well we're not fighting now, wounder how long that will last?"
  9. as much as I hate to disagree with you, under current US law it still counts even if the minors involved aren't real So if the depicted individual(s) can in any way be construed as a minor (either they look like one, or are described as one) it counts, even if the minor(s) in question are just drawings or even verbal/textual descriptions of people that don't exist. If they cans show this and prove that the material in question is "obscene" (based on the Miller test, which itself is a pile of industrial grade bullshit.) it constitutes CP. on a less than related note, Canada and Australia both have even more restrictive laws of this type than the US. Ironically they have the highest rape rates amongst industrialized nations (78 and 77.8 per 100,000 respectively); more than double that of the US and some 44 times that of Japan... just something to think about. this of course fly's in the face of Ashcroft v. Free Speed Coalition which ruled that both visual renderings and verbal descriptions ARE protected as free speech because they DO NOT depict actual children and therefor =/= CP. Of course since MacF never had any actual content that could even remotely be construed as obscene (although with the current state of the US legal system you never know), the question of it being CP/illegal in the US is still kind of moot. But for the record any character depicted in any cartoon/anime/comic book/hentai/doujin etc that can be construed as a minor IS legally considered a minor in the US (until someone who isn't a pedophile gets around to calling shenanigans on this BS law.)
  10. I love this one.
  11. The bumps are molded into the wing. because of the way they mold it (two part metal mold that forms the top and bottom of the wing) wholes are left in the top of the wing which is why the sencond piece is needed. if they were to mold it without the holes, it would require a much more complex breakdown of the mold parts in order to make that shape and be able to get it out of the mold. in order to get the little nubs on the end of the mounts (green highlighted parts) they have a projection that comes down from the top mold through the wing, (red highlighted part) this makes it easy to mold the complex shape of the mounts, but now there are holes in the wing. so the inset panel covers them up
  12. the actual mounts (the little donuts the missiles clip to) are molded into the wing. the part you're pointing out is a panel that gets glued in to cover up the back side of the missile mounts :edit: since I'm not sure if that made sense (it's late) here's a picture the green parts the wing, the bump on the bottom is mount (donut shaped piece), and the red square is the panel.
  13. wat? that's not how megazone 23 part 3 ended
  14. the M9 (like the M8) is a very specialty camera. Rangefinders lack much of the versatility and precision of SLR's. accurate framing and composition is difficult at closer distances due to the viewfinder being offset from the lens, and focusing through the viewfinder doesn't always work with zoom lenses (hence why rangefinder lenses are usually primes). the benefits of a Rangefinder are that they are very compact relative to the quality of lens and sensor size they have, and because of their design they can use VERY wide angle lenses. also because of the nature of the viewfinder you can shoot with both eyes open, and can get a view that's larger than the actual size of the picture you're taking. basically for studio photography, macro/close up photography, and super-telephoto photography, SLR's are better. but for environmental photography where you want to be in amongst your subject, Range finders are better. (compact size, better situational awareness, and the look of the camera doesn't make people as nervous/attract as much attention) really rangefinders like that are more for serious, experienced photographers than for the casual shutterbug/guy just getting into photography. that said, I'd sell my soul and take out an advance on the souls of my future children to get my hands on one. also, Ken Rockwell is an arrogant, self-righteous tool.
  15. the legs look they're infected with some sort of flesh eating disease for robots. There is No way on earth you could possibly justify a robot with a massive, ornately decorated samurai sword outside the context of a super robot show or some sort of parody/comedy. I not particuarly thrilled with the chunky, segmented, complex purely complexity's sake look of the PG strikes arm (I think the design used in the anime is better than the Gundam Evolve version) but they work with the overall angular/boxy design. The Red frame on the other hand is 50% boxy, 50% streamlined, 100% incoherently styled. The crap mechanical design refers to the fact that it looks like whoever designed the red frame took random part they thought were cool looking from about two dozen other Gundams, smashed them all together, wiped away the blood and called his abortion a finished design. (sorry to tell you this Mr. Akutsu, but cramming as many odd undulations and angles as you can into a design does not make it good) my point is that the red frame Gundam itself is an ugly abortion of a robot, and it's PG representation ruins the otherwise great Strike kit with it's horrifying fail and ugly. Just because a model is a perfect, painstakingly detailed representation of a pile of shit doesn't change the fact that it's a pile of shit. (buy the way, the buster sword on the PG strike is retarded as well, although not quite as bad sinse it's not a giant robot sized samurai sword complete with ornately decorated scabbard. just say no to massively over-sized swords on robots... small knives are fine) tl;dr: well engineered model of an ugly robot is still ugly.
  16. the "armor" isn't even armor at all, it's a type of binder used to keep the EVA's under control. the A.T. Field is what does all the protecting. the A.T. field is as you said force field type thing which isolates souls from each other (it makes much more sense when taken in the context that within the shows world a soul isn't a theological concept but a quantifiable energy pattern). The Eva's have there own A.T. fields. Each EVA contain a donor soul, who's A.T. Field is amplified by the body of the EVA. the pilot is then able to synchronize with the EVA and control the Unit's A.T. field. it all makes much more sense if you watch episodes 1-24 then The End of Evangelion movie.
  17. to spread the word of the one true faith.
  18. Hmm... I'm never heard of them before. let us know how they are once you get them.
  19. they have AT fields. geometrically shaped force fields that make them invulnerable to almost everything except for stuff with stronger AT fields.
  20. buy the GP01, it's god-tier levels of awesome. red frame sucks. also, from the DX quarter thread here you go
  21. YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Dark City is such a great movie. also Megazone 23 parts 1 and 2 where really good (the character designs in 2 weren't nearly as good, but it was a really well done sequel. 3 could have been good but it was unnecessary and the in-between animation was SO BAD. I love part 1 )
  22. no, The Matrix blatantly copied Dark City, which blatantly copied Magazone 23.
  23. I think they should do no weathering on everything. yamato weathering looks like ass stains and I like my toy's squeaky clean anyways.
  24. What's interesting to note is that Sky Net DOES make an infinite number of attempts to change the time line at that point AND never made any attempt at the same time. In fact by the very act of possessing the ability to travel through time and even the simple action of conceiving such action, an infinite number of possible permutations of any given event are instantly and simultaneously created, each consisting of unpredictable levels of variation off of an arbitrarily designated mean. the Net result however is no change in the macro view of the time line. In this case the macro view is that of the inevitable destruction of sky net at the hands of man. as demonstrated in the films themselves through mans repetitive inability to prevent the rise of SkyNet time and event's are, at a sufficiently large scale, fixed. While it is possible to change relatively minor details (dates locations, etc. etc.) the bigger picture can never be altered in any meaningful action no matter what action you take. The interesting fact this creates is that Every film and depiction in the terminator universe is equally valid and invalid at the same time. any depiction of events presented in the films are simply one of an infinite number of possible variations on a specific set of events at any give point in the time line. Did that blow you're mind?
