  1. My fear that certain Valks would become web exclusives has turned true. I think I even posted this earlier on in the VF-19 Kai thread.

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed that DYRL Hikaru VF-1S doesn't receive the same fate...

As for Max -1J, I thought it was only briefly shown in the last two episodes of SDF.

  2. What doesn't look encouraging?

The size? Or because Bandai is supplying smaller swappable wings for Battroid mode?

Personally I like what I'm seeing, and I like the fact that Bandai is trying to address all modes of VF-1.

I'm pretty much sick and tired of Valks being solely designed on fighter mode and having garbage compromises for the other two modes!

  3. Seen the latest news... wow The-O is definitely a great addition to the MG line.

So what about V2 Gundam (1st) and 00 Raiser (3rd) from the MG survey, are they going to be made too?

On a side note, am I the only one here that wishes the MG Gundam Ver.2 looked like the Real Grade one.

  4. I don't have much Macross stuff, but by far my biggest mistake was getting the YF-19 closely followed by the VF-0S.

The YF-19 has plenty of gaps, missing locks, horrible carve outs, it's floppy and

it has a cockpit transformation step that will at first leave you with stress marks

and later on with a broken plastic piece.

The VF-0S is just so loose that battroid mode becomes a completely useless, not to mention the stress marks on the shoulders.

In retrospect I really can't understand why I jumped and got these, willingly making myself a beta tester for Yamato...

  5. Thanks for the pics MickyG.

The square fit for the two parts is a bit of surprise.

I think I could get the the square plate rounded, but the leading stem looks so short that there is hardly any room to work with.

Nah, I don't think I'll touch it. Otherwise it will just end in a botch job.

But it baffles me why Yamato omitted the waist joint, when it was working perfectly for the 1/48's?

  6. So I've had my RD Stark Jegan and Geara Zulu for awhile now and I love them, I plan on getting a couple more of each to have a little squadron. I was quite surprised that both are quite a bit bigger than the Gundam Unicorn, but if you look at the specs that's actually "correct".

Are you talking about the actual RD toys?

Because the Jegan is specified at 19.0 meters, making it bigger than Mk. II or Zeta but smaller than RX-0 in Unicorn mode.

  7. uh... that head is definitely not where it's supposed to be and those pictures just make it that more painfully obvious. You see the top of the chest piece? That's where the neck is supposed to start. I also don't the low hung nosecone is a huge issue. First, the 1/48 had a somewhat elongated nose which makes the problem worse. Second, there's plenty of line art that shows the nosecone beneath the wings.

    a) That line art you are referring to, also shows us that the nosecone doesn't hang as low as the knee joints.

    b) If my VF-1 toys could magically shrink its wings like the line art, then I wouldn't have a problem with the nosecone being longer than the wing tips.

EDIT - the Yamato's priest collar and the chest-leg gap of the Bandai are both pretty much minor nitpicks for me... something i could quickly get over once the toy is in my hands... but the advantage of the Yamato for me is not in the head placement or anything like that... its that it's PT w/ the heatshield, landing gears and all that... plus the fact that the armor parts and SSP are readily available, whereas for the Hi-Metal, any add-on after the base figure is released would most likely be sold as some kind of ridiculous exclusive.

I used to be die hard PT too, but nowadays I prefer to put emphasis on as much accuracy of the individual modes as possible.

People are crying for PT heatshields and landing gears for what...? Only to have the Valk sitting in fighter mode on a stand...

And the fast/strike pack thing for Hi-Metal is just complete speculation on your behalf, and not a valid argument against it until Bandai actually releases some details.

  8. I don't know why Yamato is getting so much slack for the slightly incorrect head position.

I'll take this approach any day over a VF-1 with a low hung nosecone/fuselage.

Some people need to refresh their minds on the ugliness of the 1/48 VF-1 in battroid mode...

Back on topic with my obligatory complaint: BANDAI THE HI-METAL NEEDS SIDE COVERS!!!!

  9. Wow looks very impressive. Its following the same design principle on the full armor Nu-Gundam GFF. Im happy with the plain MC version though. That many accesories is cool and all but its a bit much. Looks like a back pack of tubes and pipes. Not very practical in a fast action scenario. Some ppl may like the overabundant add ons but it just isn't my cup of tea.

Has nothing in common with HWS Nu Gundam and those pipes are propellant tanks.

They are supposed to help one cover longer distances and then are basically jettisoned afterward.

They are not intended to be used in fast action fights/melee combat.

To me at least the "Full Armor" is kind of false advertising.

Actually it's not misleading, at least if you take Japanese usage of English under consideration.

They label it as "Full Armor" as in maximum payload. If you are thinking of "Armor" as in heavy shielding like HWS Nu Gundam

then they probably would have labeled it "Full Armored".

  10. That hip joint system is some nice innovation on Bandai's behalf.

Too bad it looks like we won't be getting any side covers.

On a whole I'm really excited about this Hi-Metal line. While I haven't completely turned my back on Yamato stuff,

it's going to be hard to justify buying one, when I could probably get 2-3 Hi-Metal Valks (depending on VF type) for the same price.

Also, I do think the 1/100 scale is a better for fiddling around with when your bored.

The 1/60 scale is nice, but anything bigger than VF-1 quickly become awkward to handle.

  11. ...

And in Nemesis, the -E was literally a few hits from being destroyed (I believe it was the first time ever we see a decompression on the main bridge), and the movie concludes in spacedock. Damm... Picard must have trained Engineering Team III.

Every time Nemesis and the damage the -E sustained is mentioned, I always imagine Picard sitting on the edge of his chair,

face-palming and asking why his Enterprise doesn't have a neck and saucer separation.

Voyager should have looked more beat up and patchwork by the time the series was drawing to a close, yet always looked pristine at the end of the day ;)

Lack of attention to plausible external details has sadly always been Star Trek problematic.

Remember DS9, why was the Federation sending out Galaxy-class ships WITH saucer attached to fight the Dominion???

    Back on topic:

Watched the first 10 episodes, slow and a bit on the boring side (like season 1 of DS9). I hope the pacing in the episodes pick up a bit.

Oh, and I really wish the trend with shaky cams and constant zooming in and out would just DIE!!!!
