  1. Stop the press......

Max was able to adjust the wings on his VF-22 during the fight with the Varuta...the ability wasnt' just exclusive to teh YF-21

The VF-22 does not possess "morphing" wings. Both the YF-21 and VF-22 do possess the ability to cant their wings downward for high speed atmospheric flight. This is not the same as physically changing the structure of the wings...

  2. i honestly don't think sunlight or any light has to do with it and let me explain why.

if any of you remember, i recently sold my MPC vf1J hunter veritech.

i literally pull it out of the box once, transformed it, noticed how crappy it was, put it back in the box. its never seen the light of day and i've never displayed it...EVER! it was the crappiest thing i bought, and a disgrace to have it next to a yammie so safely it stayed in my closet for however many months.

well i threw up the auction and didn't bother opening up again, anyone here who checked the auction knows i didn't even bother to take a pic of it. so finally the auction ended and i decided to give it a once over, you know, to make sure everything was in there, etc when i noticed one of the wings had yellowed! :o WTF!!!

the fact is that the MPC was never displayed, never seen the light of day(opened it at night time), packed exactly like it came from the factory, stored in my closet, sealed in the box, sealed in a plastic bag, and then put into a another box and it still yellowed?

now mind you, i got this before this past christmas so it wasn't like it was hot...it was BRICK here in NYC, and it still hasn't gotten warm enough nor has the humidity level really gone up.

so how do you guys explain that one?

The answer is really simple. Have you inspected the plastic on the MPC? Compare it to the Yammie 1/60 and you will notice that it is of significantly lower quality, much softer than the Yammie. Not only that, it is more translucent than the yammie, which is basically opaque. Hence, the glowing head syndrome... The Rick 1J MPC is white. Without the presence of dyes and combined with the translucence and cheap plastic, the yellowing will show up much easier and earlier.

Anyways, in the end ALL plastics will oxidize by virtue of the air we breathe. Yellowing is inevitable. It can be slowed but not stopped. Ok, that's not true. You could keep it in a sealed chamber flooded with inert gas and it will probably not yellow, but if you have that kind of money and devotion to a toy, I think you need to get a life.

Air oxidation is usually not a big problem for quality plastics. UV is much more effective at breaking apart organic bonds. That's why we wear sunblock: so our DNA doesn't get damaged. Not only that, UV is capable of initiating free radical oxidations, a chain reaction, in compounds that have halogens. Since many plastics contain halogens, I would guess this could be a problem.

Just to clarify, I do organic chemistry as well as molecular biology for a living and while I do not work with plastics, the principles involved in any organic chemical reaction is pretty much universal.

  3. UV is bad. UV radiation can break chemical bonds in organic compounds. Plastics are organic polymers and as such will degrade under UV lighting, natural or unnatural. What will happen is that your plastic will discolor, become bittle, and after long enough of an exposure will turn to dust.

  4. In Ep 34, right before Kaifun Left Minmay, he says "When your songs have a kindness that projects concern about people's feelings, then you will be a real singer."

In Ep 36, Misa asks "Minmay, who on earth do you sing for? We fight for the same reason you sing your songs."

I'd say the power of emotions and conviction in song was always a major theme of Macross...

  5. A priest, a rabbi and Kawamori was on a boat fishing. Another boat came by and asked if they wanted lemonade. Kawamori gets out of the boat and walks across the water and walks ssafely into the second boat. He drinks the lemonade and raises a cup to the other guys. The rabbi gets up and runs to the other boat and quickly sinks and drown. The priests gets up, does the sign of the cross and walks out of the boat. He too sinks and drowns. The woman with the lemonade looks at Kawamori and proclaims " You truly are the Froating Head..."

Kawamori smiles at her and tells her, "I just know where the rocks are..."

That is plain awesome. Did you get this and modify it or is it an original?

  6. I don't see it. The three sections that forms the abs and chest would make it look weird and not in a distorted clothing way. However, even weirder would be the back when he's hunched over because the spider symbol on the back would be... stretch out... Mind you I love the black outfit way better than the standard one...

  7. I have no idea what the hell they are called since my interest in aviation is nil. But you all know what I'm talking about, right? You can see those black and yellow fins on Skull-1 move when Hikaru has finished entering the atmosphere and initiates propulsion in Ep. 27 Love Drifts Away.

This actually makes sense. Those things would burn up and rip off if undue atmospheric pressure was to be placed on them, so they move to be more aerodynamic in relation to the craft re-entry.
