  1. Different plastics will be affected by UV and air oxidation at different rate. I don't keep up with plastic technology, bet I bet they do have plastics that are resistant to one or the other. Mind you resistant, not immune. Bullet proof glass is made from polycarbonate. They suggest you have it changed once a year because UV causes it to weaken and breakdown.

Of course, even with the most perfect storage possible, one cannot stop entropy from taking over...

  2. One simple answer: oxidation.

Oxidation is a chemical process whereby a compound loses electrons. We live in an oxidative environment. That's why metals rust. Our biochemistry is tuned to take advantage of the oxidative nature of the air we breathe. Guess what oxygen does? Exposure to ordinary air alone will cause all plastics to yellow. The stripping of electrons will make the plastic breakdown and change color.

Plastics are polymers, in other words long chains of carbon. This opens up even another source for oxidation to occur in plastics. UV light is easily absorbed by plastic. UV is extremely high energy and can cause electrons to be ejected. This causes the formation of free radicals that cause chemical reactions to break the plastic down.

All plastics will yellow over time in the environment. White plastic will exhibit the most obvious yellowing while colored plastics will be masked by pigments. Some plastics yellow more rapidly than others. I have no doubt that Toynami opted for cheap plastic that yellows easily. The only real way to prevent yellowing is to lock your toy in a vault that is flushed with inert gases and bury it underground.

  3. When exactly did Prime use the Megatron gun either? That has always confused me...

several times. Against Bruticus on Cybertron and when there was this super exploding thingy that threaten to destroy all of them and Megatron transormed so Prime could fire it off and save their asses. Sorry it's been almost two decades since I've seen TF. But I do know there were several times when that happened.

  4. Is it me or does the AFOS resemble the Protodevilns alot? Both in looks and capabilities. It seems then that the Protoculture employed techno-organic weapon platforms (which the Protodevilns were). Perhaps the only difference between the AFOS and the Protodevilns was the super dimensional organ?

  5. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!  THAT is the SDF-4!!!!????  What a piece of crap!!!!

HG employees should just quit showing up to work.  They are SUCH retards.

Personally I'd just be happy if they didn't make this crap:

    ok... was that really necessary?

  6. Is it me or does it look like the arms have to detach and reattach to that big black piece in battroid mode? the legs I understand since that was what happened with he 1/60 VF-1's, but this is not acceptable. So basically you have to disassemble everything to transform it. Why the hell didn't they do with a slightly larger scale then?

  7. AFOS is huge compared to the tiny little VF-0 escaping that explosion in the hand pic.

I don't know if that is accurate. They put the AFOS inside the carrier. We see work being done on the AFOS. In neither scene does it suggest that the AFOS is that large. Also if it is that huge, the Anti-UN must be really stupid if they think they can steal something that large with a few Sv-51's There's no way they'd be able to carry it off!

  8. well, if you don't mind a job change, most schools will offer you a substantial discount if you work for them at least half time. This is especially true in the public schools I have found. I work part time for my school (UT Austin) and earn more than enough to live off of as well as extra spending cash, and I don't even have to pay for tuition. I am also covered by their insurance benefit program. So I guess my advice is find out what the benefits are for the school you want to go to if you were an employee and if it's a sweet deal get a job there and then apply for admission. Being employed by the school will invariably guarantee admission and give you lots of benefits.

  9. I'm currently working in two modes... fighter and soldier, using the same parts and scale/fit them to get the right proportions. The most difficult one is the canopy... in soldiermode it sticks out too long... but in fightermode I can't make it shorter than it is.

As for the rest there should be no problem at all. This time you can open the window on the canopy. Some parts are to be covered with transparent film.

    Collapsible nosecone?

  10. I admit the foldlines are a bit of a problem... it takes a lot of time to fix that.

I could have exported the model to lines only but the flaps just overlap the surface and that's what I don't want.

But I'll try to fix it later with some effects.

But I've decided to keep it that way for the time being..  it doesn't look bad on the test model.. the dotted lines could be mistaken as rivets.

As for future papermodels... it may be possible to make one but I will need help from others. It's simply too much work.

Can you make the line super light grey and hairline thin?

I would offer my help because I'd love to see all of the Valkyries more than just pictures. However, I have no idea how to do the stuff you are doing, but I'm willing to help wherever you need me to.

We have Macross Design Works so we wouldn't have to worry about references.

EDIT IN: How cool would it be to have all the Macross valkyries to scale on your shelf???!!!

  11. maybe I'm slow but wouldn't the dotted fold lines show up in the final product and make it look bad (and not in a good way either).

You should see if you can make transformable versions of all the Macross Valkyries. There's so many of them and most of them have never been created as a 3D representation. I'd love to see a VF-3000 Crusader. That would kick so much ass. I know that someone has already made a battroid papercraft of this, but I wasn't impressed by it.

  12. I don't like the way he made the outfit or the hair look, but as far as the sculpt of the figure, that's just pure awesome. If you check out his other stuff, I think the thing that impresses me the most is his ability to sculpt anime faces into 3D figures. They are all so spot on.

EDIT IN: Wow, his Witchblad figure is phenomenal. The Super Girl is... interesting. Hell his entire collection is nifty. He does like adding a sexual element to his work though. Personally that does not bother me.

  13. Awesome work Kin

Your legioss puts the MPC to shame. Love how you make armofighter mode look so well propportioned.

I just don't get it. How can you make all the modes look good and Toynami can't? I do think your fighter mode puts all the transformable "representations" out there to shame.

On another note, I was wondering if you could get the fins on the side of the nosecone to come together in soldier mode? I have to give credit to Toynami for pulling that off.

  14. You know what's funny. I was sitting at a table in SDCC waiting for the raffle and the HG people were there. Tommy Yun was saying how fragile the 1/48 was and compared it to the MPCs (both versions). How they were meant to be played with and the 1/48 was closer to a model that is only for display.

Well, if you are going to lie at least make it reasonable. Anyone who has handled a MPC VF-1 and a 1/48 would know that was an incredibly stupid thing to say. Did anyone call BS on him?

I guess it would disappoint Tommy to know that I play with my 1/48 more than the MPC?
