  1. A lot of people don't like the movie, but the fact is that it is very popular even today for many reasons. Now Bladerunner with modern CG and without Ford? Now that truely would be a turd or the next Matrix movie.
  2. Here's what I learned about the fiction behind the blaster from reading on different websites. It is created from the charter arms revolver and the Steyr bolt action rifle. The idea is that the pistol can fire 2 different types of rounds. Usually the pistol is fired in the normal mode which feeds rounds from a detachable box magazine below the barrel where the LEDs are located. Supposedly in the original story boards there is a shot where Deckard reloads the box magazine. The LEDs might be some sort of ammo counter. The bolt action section on top is suppossed to hold a single manually loaded special super round or armor piercing round which can be fired when more power is needed. From what I read from different prop makers, in the film they think Deckard fires 2 different types during the film. Supposedly the first round he fires and miss at Batty when he enters Sebatian's apartment is the special high power round as an extra large discharge is shown with the the large smoke cloud. The prop I completed was a $125 kit that was pretty rough with a lot of bubbles, it has no moving parts except for the light up LEDs and laser sight. PKD prop I think it came out ok for my first ever film prop build. It has a solid brass barrel and the grip is filled with lead so the pistol actually has about the right weight for a real pistol. It feels great in the hand the grip is amazingly comfortable like a nice target pistol. The grey one is the monsters in motion kit for $200. I haven't begun building it yet. It does have all the working parts, but the actual kit parts are not nearly as precise as the stock photo there, its going to take some major work to get it to operate completely. Check out this guys web page, awesome. He's got tons of info on the blaster including pics of a blaster that a guy made out of the real gun parts entirely in metal that actually fires blanks!!!. The best I've seen by far. He also has working Alien pulse rifles. Bladerunner Blaster homepage All metal blank firing Blaster made from the original gun parts
  3. PK-D model I made last year with working LEDs and Laser sight. I've got a different model kit I haven't built that has a working bolt action and opening revovler cylinder complete with dummy bullets.
  4. Finally, it's about time. Can't wait!
  5. The reason I say its sad when developers change the core elements of a great game is because it almost never works. It is ok to improve on the original design, but to reinvent core elements changes it to something else alienating your biggest fans. I think there was more to Raiden than just the crappy english dialogue. For one he has a lot of feminine qualities, the face, the body shape. I think its Hideo's personal fasination. Its pretty obvious when Hideo himself puts a character in MGS3 that looks excactly like Raiden called Raidenovic who is a Russian gay man that takes it lovingly from the main badguy. When you steal his uniform he is sporting some ridiculous thong type underwear. Obviously Hideo was making fun of himself, but that's just a bit much even though it was very satisfing to finally get to shoot Raiden in the face and kick his dead body. I have to give it up to Hideo though, when I loaded up MGS3 for the first time and the intro cutscene had Snake in a Raiden disguise he had me ready to throw my controller at the PS2, that was damn funny. For me the difference between Snake and Raiden is their character types. Raiden was like a boy coming of age, which I understand for younger gamers, but it didn't work for me. The new Raiden isn't cool, Gray Fox is cool and that's who that character really is. Snake is a classic spaghetti western toughguy like Eastwood. He's pretty much a complete rippoff of Snake Plissken from John Carpenter's Escape from New York. After all in MGS2 Snake even uses the last name Pliskin. If you watch the documentary on Escape from New York's special edition, Carpenter explains the character of Snake and how he is derived from those classic western tough guys. Its cliche, but still badass at the same time.
  6. I really hope Hideo doesn't do a repeat of MGS2 and not make Snake the primary character. I liked MGS2 a lot (all dog tags, beat every difficulty even extreme), but Raiden was extremely anoying and will never be as good as Snake. Big Boss in MGS3 was the greatest decision yet, I absolutely love that game and I wish I could continue as Big Boss. Unfortunately it looks like that is the case. There is a Hideo interview on Gamespot and he talks about how much he likes Raiden and about how no one liked him. He goes on to talk about how he wanted to prove that Raiden is cool and that is what he is doing. Its sad, but true. I am a game developer myself and I see it happen all the time. For what ever reason the developer in charge always has to put their personal opinion on the game. Even on mega franchises, more often than not the lead developer feels the need that he must change what was so great about the original game. I guess they are always trying to best themselves, but it almost never turns out that way. I really hope I'm wrong and Raiden is only a supporting character.
  7. Got mine from Hobbylink about a week ago. Its awesome, pics on the way.
  8. Just got my VF-0S from Hobby link yesterday. Overall I'm happy with it, but I must say it was a little disapointing because of the fit of parts, otherwise it could be the best Yamato VF. I am much more impressed with the VF-1 Stealth, it looks awesome and it is by far the tightest fitting and most solid Yamato I have so far, its like a rock. Pictures of both are on the way. I avoided all the major problems, but when opening the box one of the tail fins was snapped off and laying loose in the box. It snapped back on fine, but I stressed it a little to get it on. Also one of the screw plugs on the inside leg was missing and no where to be found. The design is amazing, the sculpt is amazing, the proportion is good, Tampo printing is perfect, but the assembly and fit are absolute crap compared to the VF-1 models. Someone here said it best that they took 2 steps forward and 2 steps backward. Its not that one or two parts are loose fitting, pretty much the entire toy has a loose fit on everything. It is difficult for it to hold a pose. In fighter mode the whole front nose and cockpit hang limp at the heatshield joint (I found that if you smash the head against the shoulders it stiffens it up nice). The thing that really kills me is why Yamato eliminated all of the locking pieces from the VF-1, the locking head, chest piece, backpack, back flap, hips/turbines in fighter mode. On the VF-0S none of these parts lock/snap in place like the VF-1. It really feels like they cut production costs on this one and then jacked up the price??
  9. My VF-1J Hikaru is an off white beige, not like my VF-1S which is white. I thought it was weird that it was off white. Is it suppossed to be that color?
  10. My hobby link Japan VF-0S preorder just got updated from May Restock to June Restock. That sucks. Anybody else have preorders with them?
  11. I'm pretty sure you have to escort the helicopter. If I remember right there are some enemies that will attack the helicopter so don't leave it alone, make sure to stay close to it and destroy any enemies firing on the helicopter first.
  12. Sauron in armor in humanoid form The Balrog Vader The Emperor in EPIII The original Terminator The devil from Legend GR13 in Universal Soldier
  13. Thanks, I thought it was 1/55 when I bought but, for some reason I expected it to be a bit bigger. Guess I been looking at the 1/48 VF-1 too much. I like everything on it except for it being smaller. It would be nice to have an exact 1/48 scale alpha high detail toy.
  14. Do you guys know the exact height of the MasterPiece Alphas and their scale? Is 6.5 inches high in Battroid correct? Is it 1/55 scale? I just picked up a Scott Bernard and it seems really tiny compared to my Gakkens. Thanks.
  15. Here's my past and present. Current ride: '99 M3 Silver Bullet 45K miles, 18" AC Schnitzer 5 stars, AC Schnitzer short throw shifter, AC Schnitzer front strut tower brace, euro style all white light markers, xenon headlights, sprint exhaust, around 285hp, 1200 watt stereo with 2 JLAudio W6 12 subs and Diamond Audio 6 tweeters and 4 mids. Past rides '94 5.0L Cobra 300+hp, 17" Cobra R Rims, 9" wide fronts and 10" wide rear tires. Flowmasters, H-pipe, KN filter charger, Super Chipped. '89 5.0L Mustang GT 300hp, Flowmasters, H-pipe, KN filter charger, Super Chipped.
  16. 28. I'll admit I started with Robotech as a kid. Lived in midwest back then and that's all we had. Always knew Robotech was a rip off though because the series were so different. Found out the complete real deal on Macross because I was going through the only 4 transforming toys I saved from childhood (Mospeda Gakken Blue Alpha, Red Alpha, 12" Cyclone, and Jetfire. I noticed that sometime in the last few years my Jetfire in good condition had yellowed badly. So I wanted a replacement and I was thinking wouldn't it be great if I could find a real version of the 1/55 toy with the Skull-1 color scheme instead of the crappy Jetfire scheme. So I got on the web found Macross World and the Yamato 1/48s, then it was all over. Just recently checked out DYRL movie and Macross 0, now I'm hooked.
  17. I agree, after you get the flight stick, nothing else can compare. Although is does take the difficulty way down in my opinion. You get so much more precision out of the flight stick, you can shoot down planes with guns with ease. On AC5 I can just completely own every level on ACE even with crappy planes. And don't forget you can go back and play AC4 with the stick if you want. Glad the price dropped, can't wait. April could be a really good month, AC Zero and VF-0S, what could be better.
  18. Thanks. Few pieces of painted pvc tube, a few screws and metal clamps, and a couple pieces of board. Doubled up the pvc tube so its strong enough you can bang on the controls. The 2 mounts plug into pvc elbow joints. Bought the flightstick bundle with AC5, $60 chair $25 mounts, got the TV later.
  19. I'm ready for ACZ to come out. Ace combat is one of my favorites next to Steel Battalion.
  20. Thanks for all the info guys, I'll figure out how to create a sweet looking officer pod some how. Here's some pics of the Matchbox pods and a sweet pic I just found.
  21. I was thinking I would display it next to a matching scale VF. The 1/48s look good together by themselves. I saw some matchbox battle pods on ebay for about $60, but no officer pod. I agree they are very much a toy and lack the detail and feel of the Yamato stuff. That's why I was thinking about doing up a nice officer pod model, but 1/100 is quite a bit smaller than the matchbox, so I don't know. I was also thinking about the 1/60 scale Yamato female power armor, but I really want a nice officer pod.
  22. The matchbox looks like it would be 1/72 scale or smaller. 1/100 scale? How about the Bandai 1/100 Officer Pod poseable model kit? There are some on Ebay right now, anyone know if it is that any good?
  23. I was looking for the same thing. Even if its not 1/48 scale I still would like to have a nice Officer's pod. Anybody know where to get one? Is the Matchbox version the biggeest and best one there is?
  24. I handle mine all the time as well. As long as you don't use too much graphite it won't smudge unless water or something gets down into the seem. The moisture from your hands is not enough to seep down into the seems causing it to smudge as long as you don't use too much graphite. Also the seems are deep enough that the graphite won't easily come out as ghostryder said. The only negative I have found with the 0.3 pencil is that you can't really make extremely dark panel lines without the risk of the graphite getting everywhere, but for subtle panel lines it is very safe.
  25. The 0.3 pencil works really well if you do it right. The trick I used to keep it clean and prevent rubbing smudges everywhere is just using enough to bring out the panel line. On the VF-1J I used it very softly so there was no extra graphite that would have to be rubbed off or smudge later. You can't use too much and you can't get really dark black panel lines with it without smudging, but that's ok because that wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted the panel lines to show all the detail, but not stand out. Also the 0.3 is so precise, since I don't have the money to buy more 1/48s I didn't want to take the chance of anything touching, smudging or even slightly discoloring the white plastic. I really wanted to make sure that the pure plastic color shows through perfectly that's why I didn't use any type of paint or wash. And the fact that it is so easy and took about 2 hours. I paint a lot of miniatures for Warhammer 40K, some of them are quite good and take upwards of 20 hours, but on the Yamatos I didn't want anything to discolor the pure plastic.
