  1. Yeah I saw these go up last night. I am not familiar with the seller but my guess is its not the same person. Though the M.O. is the same, buy low on YJ ans sell high on ebay.
  2. The version I have is 40 pages, but mine is most likely second hand photocopies of one of the original packets.
  3. Yeah that artwork is cool, but not for $200. I have a painted cel of the first Minmei image listed there.
  4. Yeah some of the BWA items are nice. I don't suspect the prices will stay where they are for much longer.
  5. So you're the one I was fighting with over this one! Nice score.
  6. I don't think I will stop collecting any time soon. I do it because I love it and I only buy what I can afford. If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't do it. And if it is true that collectors are/where selling off their collections I don't think it is happening right now. I see fewer cels coming to market now than a decade ago when I started, and those that are are of lesser quality in my opinion, and being offered for higher prices. If many collections were being liquidated we would be seeing a lot more cels offered and prices would be lower because of the higher supply. i don't see prices dropping any time soon either. Unless there is a mass liquidation of collections which flood the market, or interest in anime and Macross specificially completely evaporates, there is always going to be a demand on a limited supply of items. Of course it is going to be true that as the years go by and Macross fades further into memory there are going to be fewer interested collectors, but there will still be those who love it and will stick with it. Look at the current generation of anime collectors. I would say a majority of them don't also collect old-school Disney, but there still is a base that does, and quality cels from that genre still claim quality prices. But hey, if I'm wrong and there comes a point that no one wants to collect Macross any more that is just fine with me. Sell off your collections at fire-sale prices. I'll buy them all!
  7. Ha,ha. I am glad my collection is in the Midwest. Fewer dangers, lol.
  8. Yeah that one has been relisted at least half a dozen times with an ever dropping price. It was considerably higher the first time it was listed. I'd talked with the seller at some length when it was first listed. The autograph is on a separate card. I think it was something like $5k originally. The seller purposely elevated the price because of the Kawamori connection.
  9. I see the most recent Macross listings on YJ have 8% sales tax being charged on them. That is unfortunate. It would certainly make me reluctant to bid, having that extra expense.
  10. Not a bad price on that cel, though there is considerable paint loss so the price doesn't surprise me much. It is a little high for what I would have paid considering the damage. I have bought from Mandrake occasionally, but I haven't really noticed any trend in the prices that cels go for. I haven't interacted much with Mandarake recently but I find their new layout confusing. I can never tell what is going on with the "Everyday Auction", "Live Auction", and "Big Web Auction". At least I never seem to find BWA items when they are actually running. All I find are listing that have already finished.
  11. It might very well be true that many American cel buyers are not aware of YJ auctions, but I would think most of the cel collectors who would actually pay for a cel the kind of money he is asking, certainly the Macross cels, are indeed already aware of YJ. It seems he is counting on the uninformed Ebay buyer to shell out a chunk of change for artwork they don't really know the market for. Seeing that all but a few of his Macross cels are still there waiting to be sold, I would say we Macross collectors are indeed smarter than he gives us credit for, lol.
  12. Perhaps a little bit off topic, but still original artwork and related to Robotech. This is the original drawing for the REF Battlepod in the new REF Marines source book by Palladium for their Robotech RPG. I picked this up from the artist himself last week at Gen Con. There has been a lot of for and against discussions on the new mecha designs in the book, but I must say, either way the actual artwork is quite impressive in person.
  13. Well I just took a look through his recently sold items on Ebay and he might not be completely out of his mind. He has sold 239 items in recent months. I did notice though that probably 90% of them went for either an accepted best offer or had a price reduction on them (20-25%). Only a very few were buy it now at the original price. He rightly accesses that Macross is one of the higher draw shows, but we all seem to agree that his estimation of that is quite inflated.
  14. Seems to me he replied with a counter offer the one time I tried to get one of his cels, but that was some time ago. Oh well, his prerogative. If he is trying to do this as a business for profilt I doubt he will have much success and will eventually have to give it up (or change his ways).
  15. Someone should message him and say, "I know what you pay for your cels on YJ. How about taking a resonable price for one".
  16. Exactly. I offered him what I thought the cel was worth on its own merrits, but since I can only buy the cel, and not the experience he had acquiring it, I wasn't willing to pay a premium.
  17. I had made him an offer when it was listed the very first time, but he chose to relist it to try and get more. The story behind it is indeed cool, but in my opinion, doesn't add much to the value of the cel. Oh well...
  18. jvmacross that may very well be true but it has backfired on a couple of occasions. I have seen him sell a cel or two.
  19. Yeah that guy is nuts with his prices. I lost a cel to him on Yahoo Japan for 9000 yen, so like 100 bucks. It soon turned up on ebay for over $500. I made him a reasonable offer based on what I know he paid for the cel but he didn't accept. Cel is still unsold.
  20. I've bought cels in the past in person from Anime Link at a convention that were never on their site. Best to contact them and ask what else they might have that isn't online.
  21. I got them from a private collector I met at a game convention. I bought a Macross game from him and we got to talking and he mentioned he had cels also (obviously he didn't bring them to the game convention).
  22. Hey all. Been a while for me. I haven't been super active, but I do keep an eye on things. Its also been quite some time since I've bought anything but I was happy to pick these new ones up yesterday (not at SDCC).
  23. Huh. Much less than I would have thought. I was expecting around $100. I don't think I have a desire to get any for myself, but interesting to know the service is out there.
  24. Well done stuff. What kind of price is a "nice price". How were the backgrounds done?
  25. I agree. It looks like line fading to me. Common on cels the age of Macross. I don't know if it is caused by fading exactly, or oxidation, but the lines that were transfered to the cel from the pencil drawing will start to turn red/brown over time. It is one indicator of age on a cel, which for this specific one is a good thing, because if any scene from Macross is popular for counterfeiting, I would say it would be that one. If a cel proporting to be from that scene didn't show the age of line fading I would be very suspicious about its authenticity. Still, for the starting bid price, I would still be very cautious.
