  1. I agree about CGI. It has it's place but it's been abused way to much in certain years (Star Wars Prequels for example (not the large scale battles mind you but in the other places but that might be for another topic)). I too would rather have an extremely well done costume then CGI. The trailer for the new film looks great. Gotta be honest though I still enjoy the first film. Personally I'm of the opinion that it suffers from the very same thing both Spider-man 1 and X-men 1 suffer from. It's an origin film and it has to be told. Now with that you can't just not add a villain for the heroes to fight. So they took the time to do Doom's origin. Now I like that they did that but I can see how the film suffered as a result. Sure they could have just jump into things with the characters having their powers but for those new the characters that wouldn't have worked to well. I do think they messed up with Jessica Alba though. The other characters I had no problem with. I always liked the guy that played Doom ever since I first saw him on Charmed and now on Nip/Tuck. Michael Chiklis was THE best choice for Thing I feel and he made that character. When you have a great actor for the part, costume works just fine. Which is why I'm glad they went with Hellboy as a costume as well in that film. Ron Perlman is Hellboy due to how he acts and a CGI version in the same with Thing would have actually been a negative. I think now that the origin material is out of the way they'll be able to hit the ground running in terms of a better story. They tried to do to much in the first film due to the number of important characters (5 total here). Where as with Spider-man you mostly had Spidey and Green Goblin and everyone else was secondary. With X-men it was only really Logan, Rogue, and Magento. Prof. X was really important as well but he and other X-men didn't require a LOT of development due to X-men's plot I felt.
  2. There really needs to be a chart made that places the Zelda games and their timelines in order. Is there one out there, at least a partial one done by a fan? It's getting way to confusing. Initially one can think that each game is a world unto it's self which is what I thought but then things just start getting confused. I haven't played Majora's Mask yet. I didn't even bother with it cause I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the time trying to understand it. Now Twilight seems to adding other things.
  3. So is Twilight Princess a new storyline or is it a continuation of one of the past few recent games? This reminds me I still need to beat Windwaker, got to the end but just stopped playing for some reason.
  4. Not that impressed by the trailer. I mean I didn't expect much to begin with. My biggest problem is that CGI in general. It doesn't look right to just straight up weird. Not so much as bad I would say but it's really lacking. The actual animation looked decent from what I saw but it won't be winning any awards. The meshing of the two is just bad I think, if they had gone for one or the other I think things might have been better at least visually. One shouldn't go for both unless you can afford it. You don't need to have both for something to look good, no need to jump on the current fad. Things just look to dark and the objects were to bright. Where are all the stars is what I'd like to know? What's the price being pushed for the film again?
  5. So what did they say about the Towers?
  6. I remember reading that the Superman vs. Captain Marvel battle/episode was very similar to the their fight in Kingdom Come. That was one of my favorite episodes with Superman in the somewhat bad guy role. Would really like to know what Kingdome Come was really about.
  7. I happen to be watching Raw that night when that happen. It was a beautiful thing.
  8. I always wondered when this would happen. It makes sense why they would demote it. Annoying, I agree since I'm so used to "nine" but not to big of a deal though. Space no longer really interest me as it used to when I was a kid. Real life wise I mean. Now talk about something going to hit the planet or advances on space ships and actual plans to colonize the moon or Mars or something would be useful and actually interesting. Yet haven't heard anything like that in a long time. Guess my dream of living (at least my final years) and being able to die off planet won't happen, not that I held that much hope once I started being realistic about life in my late teens.
  9. You know going by those toy pictures those are actually what I expect a live action version with CGI to look like. I mean come if they are going for a look as if they existed in the real world I doubt we'd get the versions we are used to. I knew some change had to be done and I really doubt we are going to get the exact action seen in the comics and cartoons. How would an alien race of robots actually design themselves? I say go for the more complex design to see how it works (toys can be made to reflect the look, not like you have to tone a toy down on detail (which might have been the case years ago). The animation seeing them transform, better be detailed, will be pretty amazing on it's own. I'm still trying to hold my final opinion on these designs until I see them in action in a trailer though. What will make or break things I think is how they actually appear in motion and in actual action scenes I feel. If that's well done enough I think people will overlook the different designs.
  10. Wouldn't trust those reviews anyway. I mean a lot of people on RT.com are either so starved for any new type of Robotech animation that they will praise it no matter what it's like. Also many of them are clueless at the overall situation and really don't care to know any better I think. It was like that years ago. Those that didn't just accept poo for what it was and actually paid attention to the entire situation are pretty much gone or were banned. Tommy Yune and Steve over there like it when people kiss their ass and act like they are the best thing that's ever happen to Robotech when it's exactly the opposite. The term "fanboy" is what should be used to describe a lot of people there even if they aren't out seem that way themselves. The phrase "ignorance is bless" comes to mind here and covers many of the people at Robotech.com. Not all of them but the majority.
  11. I don't know about this. I really don't. I guess in the end though, I have to agree with the opinion that any Snake Plissken is good Snake Plissken. Just to see Kurt in the role would be cool, at least one more time. I most certainly wouldn't have high expectations for this but just enjoy it for what it is.
  12. Release dates from RT.com (and HG) mean poo I feel. Until I hear a store actually shipping the item and someone reports to have gotten their own in the mail or from an actual store I couldn't care less. If this is so, I wonder how long it will take before it's on the internet. No way in hell I'd spend money on this thing without seeing it first and even then it's debateable.
  13. I've always wished they could pull a Vader with Joker. Have anyone playing the role that could get the look down but then just dub Mark Hamil's Joker voice over the actors voice. The same way Lucas did with Vader and James Earl Jones. That would be a perfect setup I think.
  14. Maybe but it seems that Cartoon Network has been trying to stray away from anime shows in favor of their own inhouse work or produced work. I think Saturdays is really (early in the morning to early Sunday morning) where that programming is at. From what I recall reading, can't find the link but this was brought up on the DC boards I think in relation to the superhero shows, that Cartoon Network makes more money from their inhouse shows (toys, etc), in a somewhat larger percentage then from other shows where they have to pay out to show them and don't get all the money generated from them. That was one of the concerns when it came to doing shows like Justice League. While owned by Warner Bros, it still had to pay Warner Bros animation and DC comics I think to show it. I'd guess the same would have to be true of anime shows, which could be why they have cut back the way they've done in recent years. So just saying it being shown on Cartoon Network isn't really a sure thing giving Funimation's connections with Cartoon Network. Especially since RT, didn't really rack in the numbers last time it was shown. They already seem pretty reluctant as I understand it to show any more Gundam. I guess because no show has been the hit Gundam Wing was for them. Something else just came to me. A lot of shows try to put out toys or items for people to buy. I think that's true about almost all anime on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim at the moment. I don't think Robotech would be in the same position. The toys worth getting cost way to much and I doubt people at large will buy them, not to mention I don't think they are made anymore since they had limited runs. There are really no other tie in products out there for Robotech at the moment (comics are over and were by large crap save the first mini series and even that fell apart at the end I feel). The games have come and gone and weren't really hits. I still see Battlecry in stores but Invasion not so much. Do you think HG is looking to make their money back based on dvd sales alone and the money they get from Funimation to release it? I wonder how viable that is considering the situation.
  15. Have you watched it? If so did'nt you find it odd what the EA soldiers found on the GiNN? 417333[/snapback] No I haven't watched it, which is why I asked who was on the winning side of the battle.
  16. True they could be doing it themselves. I've been kicking around the idea though that what if after doing this film and putting the money on it they finally sat back and realize that the RT fan community or anime fan in general (still don't consider RT an anime in the sense that it's a japanese animation show, at least this new version and due to the changes the older version went through) won't accept it or care of it. I wonder how possible would it be for them to realize that what they've done is create something that the fans of RT will not like and won't care for it and they are stuck? That might be a long shot though. Most likely case is that they have to high of an opinion of RT and it's standing in todays setup and are demanding to much when it comes to getting distrubed. Or perhaps, with the legal mess around RT, which I don't doubt anime distrubing companies heard about, perhaps no company wants to risk releasing it without making sure they won't get caugt up in the mess if something happens later on. Or like my first thought, it just might not be any good. Now if HG wanted to release it on their own, they very well could I think. Take preoders I guess to see what the interest is, based on that burn the copies and get the cases and cover slips made, charge the people and slip them out. Or charged them first (preorder buyers fulling knowing that will happen) to cover expenses. I would tink RT.com would be able to do that and them being in Cali, sure there are places that can do the copying and case creation work for them. If they aren't willing to do that, then it might be a case of the show not being any good or them knowing what the reaction to it will most likely be and are stuck now that it's been made. How long has it been since they announced it was finished? 5 months or more?
  17. Film Festivals really don't mean a damn thing. The only thing that matters I feel is the dvd release date or it airing on cable say on a channels animation block. Outside of that it really isn't worth caring about I feel. For the different places they've shown it I've heard nothing about it. Which either means two things to me. 1. The only people that saw it don't post on the internet. 2. It really wasn't worth talking about or running back to tell others what it was like. Number 2 is the more likely situation I think and might be why it's not out on dvd. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hard time shopping it around or perhaps they are asking for to much when it comes to a deal. Still as it stands and it's been this way for th last year or so, if it comes out I'll check it out as a rental or a download. Only after I've seen first (all of it) will I decide if it's worth any of my money or not. No way in hell before.
  18. Yeah. If anything Square-Enix could just turn into an animation/cg studio (them not doing the story though since they are hit or miss at that at times) and just watch the money come pouring in. They just get better and better at it.
  19. This is really what happen to me. Originally I didn't care as much for the Robotech Masters aspect of Robotech but I was really young when I originally saw it. Then I got copies of the episodes and then the Legacy dvds when they came out. Around this point I wasn't just watching the battles but actually paying attention to the story and I understood "character developm, plot, and story". Just one of those things that changes as you get older when you watch a show, you realize there is more to it then the explosions, even though those are still cool to see. My apperciation of the part of the story grew and I like that part now and wish it would be expanded upon. Actually I started to dislike other aspects of the Macross saga as result of this new outlook. Mainly post-Rain of Death and what Lisa was reduced to and realize just how much of a jerk and ass Rick was.
  20. I've been wanting to check out GI Joe vs. Transformers. Is any one side the bad guys or is it more GI Joe/Autobots vs. Cobra(or other bad group/Cons? I'd like to have a set continuity but not really a deal breaker. Just how long were each of the first two volumes though? Are we looking at perhaps an entire year of one cotinuity and then restarts or perhaps a few years and then restart? I mean is it long enough for characters to know and develop bonds before new volumes come out? Thanks.
  21. Has anyone been reading the new Transformer comics? Any good, or not worth the time? Sales numbers of them?
