  1. This is how I see it: HG tried to nab anything and everything that was Macross because they felt they were entitled to it but that was proven wrong because of the litigation. Big West made a play to nab the international rights to SDF Macross which would've made Robotech null and void. They failed because those contracts are set in stone. Tatsunoko Pro has international rights to the SDF Macross and by proxy Harmony Gold. No one is disputing that BW has control of character designs, mecha designs, and overall story concept but I think the real prize was international distribution of the original show.
  2. I think this was all due to Hasbro/Takara leasing the mold of the VF-1 for Jetfire from Japan. HG wasn't allowed to make their own toy because that toy was already on the market. Though Hasbro couldn't animate it or even publish it in the comic book media because RT was on the air and being published by Comico. That's why the robot Skyfire looked so radically different from the toy. There was a commercial for Jetfire that retained the VF-1 look but I think that was due to the advertising of the toy.
  3. HG (through Tatsunoko Pro.) has rest of the world rights (except Asia but somehow RT landed in China in the 90's) to the original SDF Macross tv series. However they have no rights to any Macross derivative or sequel produced by Big West. Tats and HG never lost rights to the original series but they have no claim to any new Macross project. Now Manga who did produce the only English adaption of Macross Plus has been distributing RT on their VOD and You Tube services. The RT store has sold the entire Mac Plus series on their site.
  4. I always say support the official products whenever possible but I'm sure Big West isn't ignorant of it's Western fans who have supported Macross just as much or more than Eastern ones. To pretend there's not a market in the U.S. especially when Macross products sell better here is pretty weird. BW can't really hide behind "well this is a Japanese only release" when it finally hits the net it'll be a hot illegal download. You're going to have bootleg copies but if English subtitles were added it be a good gesture to their Western supporters. So either BW wants to avoid a legal battle with HG, too cheap to add subtitles, or maybe their in bed with the bootleggers are the only reasons I see for not having subs.
  5. Robotech II: The Sentinels were the additional episodes.
  6. Rumor: Lindsey Lohan is considering auditioning for Mary Jane Watson. Friends of hers that are Spidey fans are pushing her to do it. This could be almost as brilliant as RDJ as Iron-Man but I don't think it's going to happen.
  7. In the beginning the 80's Turtles wern't that goofy. I think the show was originally animated at a Japanese animation studios (like other 80s cartoons) and concentrated on a lot of action. I remember a scene during the mini-series where all the Turtles were going to sleep except Leonardo and April was there. Leonardo commented on how his brothers were going to need their sleep while cleaning his katana blade (I thought that was a hard scene). Hey, a lot a pre-schoolers liked the Turtles so they began to cater to that market but older fans (elementary to middle school) became alienated and the quality of the animation suffered. Needs more Turtle Prime!
  8. Some set pictures have surfaced with Conan (Jason Mamoa) drinking at a tavern with scantily clad bar wenches. Looks like the film is going to have some nudity (YAY!) For the censored pics: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/BrentSprecher/news/?a=22049 The page has a link to the uncensored ones for those who are 17 & older (wink, wink).
  9. And why was Macross 2 over-hyped in the U.S.? Didn't the producers think they can make a lot of money by capitalizing on the success of Robotech and the fans familarity with it? In my VIZ Macross 2 manga they make a point to mention RT and it's connection with Macross. Also, Chuck Roven didn't leave the LAM for Dark Knight(he already produced that movie) but for the Voltron LAM whose status is always changing: is it in production or is it cancelled. So Chuck switched to a project that's been reported dead. Maybe not the greatest business decision. If Harmony Gold passed on the Kasdan script how come Lawrence Kasdan was announced by Tommy Yune as a part of the writing team with Tom Rob Smith, Alfred Gough, and Miles Millar?
  10. I thought Karl went off to die because he was running out of oxygen and due to communication problems he would probably be dead long before anybody arrived on Mars to save him.
  11. Teaser page for the Macross F Christmas Special. Not a lot of info but a cool still fom the Mac F movie: http://macrossf.com/christmas/
  12. Y'know I forgot how violent Sentinels was. Women, children, & even old people all bought the farm. That would've been great for afternoon children's programming. And you thought a lot of people complained about a cross dressing rebel fighter who liked to sing.
  13. I think I see the confusion; he's speaking very ambigously but he's referring to the new ending but doesn't mention that RT the Movie is based off of the original Megazone 23. He admits that the Idol Co. did the original animation but he doesn't say how he changed the original script or the reason for the Paul Power storyboard (that they were changing the end to appease Canon Films). Now I'm guessing here, Carl maybe didn't want to admit (at the time) that RT the Movie was an edited MZ23 because he wanted the film to stand on it's own merits like how he did in other interviews he did for RT. Like making it seem that the Japanese studios were creating new animation for RT and not admitting they were actually purchasing them. The movie was still being distributed in Europe & South America; it was even broadcasted on tv in South Africa. So even though the film was dead in America (except for a few film festivals) but abroad was still making money.
  14. A lot of it is actually really interesting, though I question how much is true. Most of the stuff about Robotech the Movie is dubious since Megazone 23 is never mentioned, moreover, they credit some American dude with the storyboarding and everything. They might have been referring to the Paul Power storyboard that gave Robotech the Movie the opening using the planets and the new MZ23 animation used for the ending.
  15. It's too early in the process to give my opinion on the OAV; in a earlier post I held my opinion of the Sera art that was leaked because it was so fuzzy. When I criticized Shadow Chronicles was after I've seen it and I could give an accurate accessment based on facts. Now I hope the OAV's a good story and something worthy of Robotech but it's still too early.
  16. You're argument makes no sense....I could read the same statements you did and come up with an entirely different scenario. That's called an opinion. HG's movie has not even been released but it's under so much scrutiny of being recycled garbage. The last time that happened was over 2 decades ago. It seems that HG has been going out of their way to avoid all those criticisms of the past. You're inferring from statements and innuendo but the truth is I don't know what this OAV is all about and you don't know. There might be some wishy-washy fan boy tunnel vision but it seems to be a definite negative push on any project that HG is involved in especially Robotech ones.
  17. Yeah it does seem being an anime idol is a trap of sorts. May'n had albums out way before the Sheryl Nome thing and now it seems she's gaining more attention but seems to be trapped by the spectre of Macross Frontier. I have a copy of the Final Concert in Boudokan and May'n blew me away. She was so professional; a true performer.
  18. I think all this speculation is much ado about nothing. The last time HG used recycled footage was the Sentinels & RT the Movie over 20 years ago. To be honest there was more recycled scenes in The False Diva then there ever was for Shadow Chronicles. I don't understand the why there's a controversy that a RT feature movie could be worked on as we speak. It didn't take Satelight too long to release the MF movie; just a matter of months.
  19. Do you think if Mrs. Macek read your post she would think hey this guy isn't really accusing her of pimping out her late husband's death for profit? It's ok; he said "IF"... "IF" is convenient out to say something you really mean but pretend you don't. I understand what you meant when you said "IF" but it's still pretty disrespectful to even go there. That poor woman has lost her husband and it's only been a few months. So I'll play the "IF" game. Has anybody even thought that maybe its therapeutic for her to face the fans of her husband to experience the love and respect they had for the man. Or maybe it's an obligation because Carl left his future projects unfinished that this might be her way of completing Carl's legacy. Y'know"IF".....
  20. Shaw Bros 4 LIFE! Anything with the Deadly Venom Mob: 5 Deadly Venoms, Kid With the Golden Arm, Killer Army, ETC, ETC. White Lotus Trilogy featuring the evil priest Pai May and the One Armed Swordman's movies. Gordon Lui (Return to the 36th Chamber) played Pai May in KIll Bill Vol. 2.
  21. Whoa, those are a lot of accusations from people who aren't even sure what is the true relationship between the Ms. Svea Macek and Harmony Gold. She even said when they first met she was an employee for HG and even drew Comico's English adaption of Macross. To trash that woman on the way she deals with the death of her loved one to me is very disrepectful. You want to diss HG or even Carl's treatment of Macross fine but to cast judgement on her is way over the line.
  22. The trailer was decent but Asgard was too clean and pristine for my taste. I mean where was the fur and the funky norse armor. They are Vikings not the knights of the table round. All you have to do is watch the movies the Vikings or Hammer's The Viking Queen for a reference. I don't think they paid a lot of attention to Jack Kirby's art. Though the Destroyer stole the show for me.
  23. Since nobody's talking about it I might as well be the first. The Robotech exhibit at the Cali State Fair: http://www.toyfusion.com/pages.cfm?cp=robotech_exhibit Don Yee's gonna be there; I love his artwork in RT Art 2.
  24. It's official...Robert Downey Jr. is the King of Marvel! Nuff Said!
