  1. I agree with the big-brother/sempai/fatherhood figure thing, especially since Hikaru's father died in the air circus. But Misa as mom? Ewwww.... Now that's getting freaky. I wonder if their kids had any extra arms or something? Seriously, I don't think he made that much of a connection with her until mid-way through the series. I think he considered her more of a pain in the @$$ bridge officer who constantly put his and his men's lives on the line from the safety of the bridge. Maybe she was a female in a position of authority, but to be truly 'oedipal' implies there was affection there, which I just don't recall seeing evidence of until maybe half-way through the war. Maybe it was a kind of love/hate thing esp towards the end of the series, but I don't see anything that stands out as particularly maternal. Interesting idea, though, btw.
  2. It was just a model. You didn't see them until Flashback. It was destroyed on Britai's flagship just prior to them being caught (forget the episode, and can't check from work). It was also destroyed unintentionally by a mis-timed Daedalus attack by Misa in the ep just prior to "Phantasm". After that, he "inherited" skull one. We wasn't flying - he was chasing him on foot through a field of flowers. I'm pretty sure it was the VF-4, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a while since I've seen it.
  3. Hi, A little OT, but this same thing happened to me a number of months ago with a 1/72 Glaug I won off of Ebay, and Cobywan came to the rescue with some scanned instructions. There was no way I would be brave enough to try something that complex without a road map, so he pretty much saved that kit from being a big fat waste of money to me. Just wanted to say thanks again, Coby - that's so very cool of you to help out like that. It's people like you that make MW a great place to be.
  4. I can't speak for MiM, but I'll second that Valkyrie did a fantastic job with his Club M VF-4 recast. It couldn't have been a more pleasant experience, and the quality of the recast was just spectacular. It really showed how much work he put into this, and if you get the chance, I highly recommend getting a hold of one of these. I'm just afraid to build it yet because I really want to do it justice, but don't trust myself just yet ...
  5. I have to go with either the Max/Millia VF-1J's. They have all the improvements and just absolutely beautiful color schemes. Since I had to pick one, Millia's got my vote, but they're pretty much equal in my eyes. After that, it'd have to be the VF-1D, believe it or not. That's pretty strange, as I was never really a big fan of the 'D, but after penning in the panel lines and stickering her up, she's really turned into one of the most eye catching valks I have.

    Your Valks

I was just thinking the exact same thing. That, and I want one of my newly FAST-pack loaded 1/48's in fighter mode with the gear up. I may just pick up a few of these ...

    Buying Slump!!!

$200 in parking tickets? WTF?? What did you do - block the fire lane in front of a burning preshool???

    VF-1J

Definitely WITH the FP. I'd prefer to swap it out for a GBP system, though. I'm not really too wild about the Hikaru 1J with FP's since this was never featured in the series, but those changes they're making to make them TV-acurate are just too tempting to pass up. I'll probably get it w/ the FP's and transfer them to another valk when possible. Maybe if they ever made a cannon fodder brownie in 1/48 ...
  9. Roy was the original VF-1S jockey, and still the best IMHO.
  10. Not in the case of fuel for a fusion engine, which is the case of the VF-1. Nuclear fission requires (well, really doesn't require, but it makes it a lot easier) radioactive materials to bombard with neutrons and cause the fission reaction. Fusion works like the sun, and can use pretty much anything - probably hydrogen into helium or another light element for efficiency's sake.
  11. I don't know about that. Maybe it points to a deficiency in the GBP armor system's design - a little too much "Anime Magic" perhaps? Remember, the old Bandai/Takatoku 1/55's that the old style GBP armor fit on had a nosecone that was much shorter than what appeared in the original line art, and that's the only reason it fit correctly. I don't think that the Yamato's nosecone hangs any lower than say the Hasegawa battroid's, and I think we can all agree that theirs is the most acurate VF-1 sculpt available anywhere. I think that perhaps Kawamori ignored (or didn't notice) that the GBP's waist armor section couldn't possibly fit given the dimensions of the VF-1. It's just a thought, anyway. 12. I dunno. I'd personally be a little disapointed if it was much smaller than the 1/60 monster, and this is one item I really wouldn't mind spending the $300+ on (provided it warrants it, but hey - I have no doubts they can deliver). As for the last item they make for Macross - that'd probably make it potentially years away. They have the Macross Zero stuff to do, and probably more enemy mecha and maybe Destroids coming up. I would imagine that more Macross Plus stuff too would be coming (hoping for 1/48's of the 11, 19, and 21) ... They seem to be making a mint off of their Macross lines with no signs yet of interest tailing off in sight. You'd think they'd release it sooner rather than later to capitalize on all the current fan interest, especially before we all get jaded and cry 'no mas!. This is all speculation, btw, and I of course have no idea what they have up their sleeves. I'm just itching for this one - the ultimate Macross centerpiece ...
  13. Amen. If you guys want them, more power to you, but I think the enemy mecha in 1/60 is going to be plenty big enough for anyone. The 1/60 Q Raus is already bigger than the 1/48 VF-1's, and your Regult, Glaug, etc will be about as big. I love these larger-scale toys, too, but jeez...
  14. Nice sets, guys. Sithlord: Holy crap! If you ever get around to making that thing, please please please post pics in progress a la wm cheng for the rest of us. Very cool idea about that motor, too, btw. I for one would love to see you build it.
  15. Yikes!!! None of mine have turned yellow, and I leave most of them out on display. Do you have them exposed to direct sunlight in any way? Or, if not, can you tell us what exactly you mean by "asian climate" so the rest of us can avoid this? I'd hate to have to purchase an anti-humidifier to keep my toys from deteriorating, but as much as I've paid for all of these things .... Edit in: Ooops! Back OT, I love the Yamato versions best, though mine won't arrive until tuesday or so (thanks Kevin!!!). Even though I haven't handled them yet, I'm all about aesthetics (I know, I'm so shallow ), and in IMHO, the old Takatoku/Bandai's just can't compare.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it in 1/60. Why not? As much as I'd love it in 1/48, I'd take what I could get and be happy about it.
  17. I don't think you'd be able to hold your breath. The pressure would just be too great, and there's nothign your diaphragm could do to keep the air in. Even if it could, you wouldn't want to - the difference in pressure would cause your lungs to rupture. And then you'd really be in trouble.
  18. Hmmm.... What do you know. Great link, btw. I stand corrected. They still wouldn't last very long. From Bioastronautics Data Book, Second edition, NASA SP-3006, edited by James F. Parker and Vita R. West, 1973, in the article "Chapter 1: Barometric Pressure," by Charles E. Billings: Maybe not bloody, but it sounds messy to me.
  19. In atmosphere, perhaps. In space they'd quickly die as the gas in their bodies (oxygen/nitrogen) rapidly expands and forms bubbles, boils away, and turns them into an agonizing hideous and bloody mess. No kidding. They'd be dead long before asphyxiation had a chance to set in. And no, despite popular miconception, people's bodies don't explode in a vacuum - it'd probably be a quicker and less painful death if they did, though. This is essentially what happens to deep sea divers who surface too quickly, though on a much more extreme end of the spectrum. The entire flight suit would have to be completely sealed and pressurized in order to survive if the cockpit depressurized in space.
  20. Didn't we just already have a poll about this? Here? and (arguably) here too?
  21. Heh. Just wait until you see her flying Yamatos around the room making 'swoosh' noises. Then it's time to break out the ring.
  22. You CAN'T afford it. You can buy 3 copies of the Evangelion Renewal DVD box for the price it fetched. Yeah, but it's not like that was a mass-produced item, was it? It looks like a scratch build that some master sculptor spent a lot of blood, sweat, and tears - not to mention time - on. I'm not saying it was a bargain, but it's hardly surprising. Craftsmanship like that doesn't come cheap. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here ... <_<
  23. Someone actually listens to that stuff??? (j/k) I'm a Milla fan - but I can guarantee you it has nothing to do with her music.
  24. You made the right choice. I'm as big an Eva fan as anyone else on these boards, but there's no possibility whatsoever I'd drop that much money on a dvd set - I don't care how good those remasters look. Go out and treat yourself and your significant other to a night on the town with the money you saved. You'll be much happier you did. Or, if not, there's always lots of new toys to buy ...
