  1. Kinda lol. I need to actually play and follow the series. Now I'm imagining an extremely salty Shinsei engineer supporting Anti-UN groups because the NUNS turned down the VF-19 for widescale adoption, who may or may not care about the export laws enforced because of the VF-19's conception. Honestly, I kinda like how we see some like the VF-5000 and VA-3 being used past their prime by the time we see them; it shows the passage of time in the Macross timeline without having to completely boil them down to just being old and useless. I still want to see a bit more about what happened between SDF and Plus, just to get more of a grasp on how big the world got since the advent of emigration fleets and planets. EDIT: IIRC there was a tidbit in either The Ride or the Frontier novelization that even by 2058 the Macross Frontier fleet was still in the process of decommissioning their VF-11s, way long after the move to the VF-171. And that's not even mentioning the (un?)official SW-XAI Schneeblume that used the VF-1 as a reference for a stealth VF to pair up with the VF-17! Honestly, the moment I saw the VF-1EX in Delta with its own EX-Gear system I'm convinced those things will be a universal constant in the franchise. If it means anything, the VF-14 is mentioned to have an airframe that's easy to maintain, so it seems like a sturdy machine that can last a bit more than some of its contemporaries, which probably explains why that and the VA-14 was popular with Zentradi pilots. Having a stealth system before it became the norm with the 4th generation VFs I think is a nice bonus too all things considered.
  2. It does kinda remind me of Armored Core in that field, except a lot more dystopian and a lot more casualties in between events depending on the routes you take. You know Frontier and Delta focus so much on General Galaxy's shady business and connections, sometimes I wonder if Shinsei has some dirt and/or blood on their hands. Maybe as a part of a life extension service like what the VF-1X and similar variants went through, I can see it. Either that or as modified export craft like the VF-5000G and VF-19P. Heck looking deeper the Elgerzorene has the same max cruising speed as both the VF-17 and VF-171 at 30,000+ m Mach 21+. So maybe the Gustav isn't really all that different from the original craft and the VF-11 were just very unlucky to fight practically an army of 4th generation Valkyries.
  3. And here I thought the ban on cybernetics would make the VF-27 follow suit. I'd assume most NUNS territory probably wouldn't adopt it since either the VF-24 or VF-25 are more better options in flexibility. In the same vein of antagonist, maybe illegal VFs, I'm almost certain aside from Fasces no one adopted the Varauta Army variable craft, almost definitely because of the Spiritia absorption beams and a little more because the Fz-109's base model VF-14 wasn't as popular as the VF-11. Although looking through the stats, comparing the M3 VF-14 and Fz-109F, the latter has a noticeably higher standard cruising speed (10,000 m Mach 4.5+ compared to 10,000 m Mach 3.8+) and I think it's a safe bet that the max cruising speed is much higher. It strikes me as odd since they both use the same type of Shinnakasu/Daimler FF-2770D thermonuclear turbine engines and P&W / Daimler HMM-5C thrusters, unless the airframe was modified to the extent that it can handle quicker speeds.
  4. I'm wondering if after all of that they only adopted the VF-19 and tried to make them more pilot-friendly through the VF-19F and S types in a extreme sunk-cost fallacy situation by that point lmao.
  5. And we thought the VF-19 lineage was too much of an ace pilot/main protagonist Valkyrie lmao. At least if a fleet is allowed they could make enough for a team or a squadron. The YF-29 is probably the closest we get to a Gundam-type mentality in Kawamori's Macross.
  6. Thinking about the Varauta ships and how before we saw them in 7 proper they were all UN ships. It got me to wonder if their anti-ship high-angle beam guns was something that was always in the original design or something the Protodevlin added for their modifications. As far as I know, nothing else in the franchise has those types of angling beams, although I remember someone saying the Marduk ships in Macross II had them as well.
  7. It makes the SDFN-class all the weirder for existing, wouldn't it? Considering it's a class built from a modified ship that was a massive improv on all fronts and still has a sizable civilian convoy of ~7000. Though I suppose it's an outlier with a very specific role, it is noticeably more offensive than a Megaroad or the Island Class by a longshot. The account also interestingly has two NUNS modified versions of the Medium Sized Gun Destroyer; a typical version and a more recent 2060 one. Not sure the specific details, but I could imagine instead of just modified ships there would be new Zentradi hulls built afterwards for their proven reliability
  8. That makes more sense; in the show when Britai's ship folded to the Main Fleet it seemed like it took a long while to fold jump there, probably doing more than one at a time. Considering there were multiple of those and the population of the Macross 5 fleet in total being 300,000 I'm starting to wonder if all of them were micloned.... That book with the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs is weird to me because they never really acknowledge the actual official UN conversions it had. The book also apparently had a Thuverl-Salan Battleship converted into an Environment Ship as well. I couldn't find any text or translations of it but it was uploaded on Katsumi's Pixiv: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/102319454 Not the smallest ship but considering how they were the workhorses of the Main fleet I can imagine that they'd find all kinds of uses for the UN. I would imagine there'd be a mix of giant and miclone crew as we saw on Britai's ship in the timeskip, probably the standard for UN Zentradi battleships from my few cents. On the topic of Eden, it feels like the UN won the lottery if the first planet they migrated to was a Class A habitable one. Though considering how rare those are according to Macross Chronicle, and rougher ones are used for agricultural and industrial purposes (thus building Anti-UN sentiments,) I wonder what would be the standard colony planets would be, since those aren't really focused on at all. Considering the Macross Class and Megaroad Class were described to be city ships and combat ships, they probably still would have room to keep most if not all of their combat capabilities and still hold tens of thousands of people with no issue as well. No wonder in older material Britia's ship was designated SDF-3 at one point. Only (standard) non-Macross class UN military ship we know of that's bigger than the picket funny enough is the Uraga, being 550 meters. Honestly considering how the only UN built ship the Macross 5 fleet was only the stealth frigate the three Neo Nupetiet-Vergnitzs bis was probably all they need
  9. On the risk of sounding like a broken record, I was thinking about Kawamori's notion of how some of the surviving Zentradi ships became colony vessels a bit more. From the Otana interview, there weren't any specifics in that regard except that they could be just made up of Zentradi. I'm trying to find where someone said that those ships were put into short-range fleets because they can't make longer trips, although with 7 and Delta showing Zentradi ships within either far-fledged colony fleets or planets I wonder how much that holds under scrutiny. Maybe like the SDFN class, they could've also been used to secure routes for other emigrant fleets since I think the allied Zentradi played a part in the early stages of the Mankind Seeding Plan with their already existing maps of the galaxy. And to get a bit more specific, what would you guys think would be the Zentradi ship classes that'd be best fitted as these Emigrant ships? My safest bets would be the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs class for their sheer size (and I believe some of if not the biggest ships the NUNS have under their control) and the Quiltra Queleual LST for the internal volume and how much it'd carry.
  10. Most SDF retellings/flashbacks/callbacks/etc, pretty much use the DYRL? designs because in that Doylist perspective, they're probably the more "updated" designs compared to the TV series with a hilariously strained budget. Honestly seeing designs from the TV series like in 7 and Delta catches me off guard when it happens.
  11. Which strikes me as weird since Macross Chronicle also references the Queadluun-Nona, which was from the Saturn/PS1 Do You Remember Love? game. Wonder why nothing else was given a mention, much less a sentence, considering even the ones who were stuck in the Advanced Valkyrie series (The V-BR-2, VA-X-3, etc.) also had a mention in the official setting.
  12. Excuse me for the late posting, but I'm sort of wondering since the Queadluun Alma and Neo Glaug lineage is on the generation list, I wonder if other Zentradi craft could be compared by generations as well. Ignoring how the majority of them were made hundreds of thousands of years before even the first VF-0 plan was drafted, I do know how the Plus Battlesuit is compared to the VF-11, the Queadluun Rhea starting from 2040 had upgrades to gradually have them match the VF-25 in a dogfight (and to a lesser extent the Delta Regult models for efficiency and survivability,) and how all of the battlepods and Feios Valkyrie in VF-X were designed with active stealth like the contemporary 4th generation designs.
  13. So I'm assuming the VF-15's method in-universe was either not as effective or economic as the ones we're familiar with. I've read through his blog a lot, basically his farewell post had him say he's gonna step down from the "spotlight," for lack of better paraphrasing, since there's been more voices for Macross, and wanted to let them (and Big West) do their thing. He's still active in fact, on another blog doing rewatches of other series like Srungle and Southern Cross.
  14. So kind of a precursor of the concept the EX-Gear finalized for the entire 5th generation Valkyries? Considering how even in 7 they were leagues above the VF-11 despite their base machine being from the same generation I can see the Gustav being comparable to a 4th gen fighter. Does make me wonder what modifications made the originals more effective than the stock VF-14. Even if they were I don't think the Galaxy fleet could adopt the VF-25 anyways, lol. The more I hear about the Ride the more I'm wondering how come there hasn't been a translation of it, especially since from what I saw it had a bunch of coverage on fan sites here and there.
  15. This list can tell a lot about the development of Valks throughout the timeline, it's kinda fun to see what were the priorities they were built under at the time. Wish we knew about the Second-Generation fighters, they seem the most diverse period out of everyone. Though with the bomber version of the VF-3000, I'm wondering if that actually went though some form of mass production since the regular one (VF-3000S) was too oversied for its mechanics, and development went to other variable fighters instead. Think I'm learning about some Valkyries that I never knew about or passed my sights here too! I'm familiar with the VF-16 being the one where the VF-11MAX got its engines, but what significance in-universe does the VF-15 have? And what about the Elgersoln Gustav? The only other faction aside from the Varauta/Protodevlin that uses those would be Fasces. Would those be their custom/modified variants?
  16. If I can share my few cents on this, I'd say that despite its age SDF probably has the most compelling antagonists we have with the Zentradi; that isn't to say the ones afterward aren't great in their own right, but I think the message of unity and understanding hits the hardest in this series because the antagonists are just humans who were led into the wrong path of constant war because they were told that's what they were for, which parallels the Earth and it's UN quite nicely. So to hear not only Robotech botching their story to a pessimistic spiral of tragedy and seeing their increasing irrelevance and easy villain material after the original show hurts. Am I being a bit of a fanboy? Almost definitely, but I noticed a lack of Zentran in my SDF soup and I like the Regult noodles in there, lol.
  17. And here's the third member of the "love triangle" of sorts: Vera Iijima Age: 22 (Born 2034) Lineage: Human Height: 5'2 A girl who keeps most of her past a secret, even to her closest fans. Even though she was born on Earth, she moved to Jotun to live away from her birthplace. On the ship she was on, she met Caudi and helped him when pirates from the Ares Clan raided the ship, locking the friendship between the two. Afterward, she settled down to live a secluded life as a Macross Nald's worker, yet she finds herself more connected through the incidents in the Ymir Star System than she wished she'd been.
  18. This was something that I thought would have some elaboration on; iirc Shammy's parents and some of her other relatives survived on account of evacuating to the Apollo Base on the moon, and something else about a space colony on Jupiter. Do we have any information on those colonies, such as when and why they came to be and how they looked like? They kinda feel like they only exist to have some humans survive other then just those who barely made it in the Macross. Guess you could say for a short while in Macross' history Zentradi made up the majority of humanity on Earth.
  19. Tiera 047 Age: 24 (Born 2032) Lineage: Zentradi Height: 6'1 (Approximately in giant size as well) One of many cloned Meltradi from the Flem'Lolekka Squadron, a group that had separated from the Chlore Fleet and decided to settle in the Jotun colony. Contrary to those still ecstatic about culture, she's a cold and distant type who seems to think that Zentran is best at fighting, which is her reason for being a member of the 6th Marine Batallion. Ironically, this makes her an oddball to not only the social world of Jotun but even to her colleagues in the same platoon. Pilots the Queadluun-Rhea/40.
  20. Gonna try to do some character sheets and sketches; starting with the main character himself: Caudi Wright Age: 24 (Born 2032) Lineage: Zentradi-Human Height: 5'7 A miclone pilot of the Ymir NUNS 6th Marine Batallion, he stands out as one of the several non-giant platoon members. Although as a reserve pilot, he has a job elsewhere regarding the industrial workings of Jotun; mostly in the Factory Island. Even though nowhere near being skilled as an ace pilot, he's a passionate soul about everything he puts his mind; to from working to fighting, and about his cultural origins as a Jotun Zentradi, even when it gets him in trouble. Pilots the VA-110 Neo Glaug bis.
  21. When I got completely into the franchise back in 2021, I always thought of what kind of story I'd want to tell in the universe I grew to love, and with the announcement of a new series and waiting for more details on it, I thought it'd make for a good time to work on the fanfiction I've been developing since then. This story takes place in 2056, mainly on Planet Yotun on the Ymir Star System, one colonized by humanized Zentradi. It follows the young and old pilots from the 6th Marine Batallion, a unit belonging to the NUNS Reserve service, one the main one being Cadi, half-human and Zentran who finds himself juggling his life as a construction worker and a Variable Attacker pilot. Even with the colony no longer on the constant watch from the central NUN government, they like any other colony have their conflicts, the most recent one being the increasing amount of pirate raids in the Star System. The local forces are sent to stop them, but before they realize what they got themselves into, this all leads to a conspiracy plot, that'd have to force Jotun to fight for their autonomy once again. Appreciating and loving the detail that went to Eden, Ragna, and Windemere before it, I always wanted to expand on the different kinds of colony worlds that existed all over the galaxy. But like any other Macross story, it'll still have its flying action, love triangles, and all of that good stuff. Before I can share some of the characters involved, here's some concepts I've been working on as well for the story: The sketch I made of the Neo Glaug bis' Battroid form as it had no proper depiction in Macross: The Ride. A (not really final) idea of how Jotun's cities will look; was greatly inspired by the bio-organic look of the cities from the Dominion Tank Police series.
  22. There's also the Gjagravan-Va in the game's Mission 6, which IIRC was also compared to Destroids as well, and was close as one since it's pretty mobile all things considered when you fight it.
  23. Clearly by the VF-4's development with its arm laser cannons and internal missiles that mentality was nonexistent. 😆 Actually I think every 4th generation Valkyrie had internal weapons on their person one way or another. (Sorry for the double posting, the site refused to load the progress between pages!)
  24. There's also Macross 2036 where there's a proportionately sized battlesuit for Zentradi to pilot like a mecha that was a boss fight there iirc. Which is ironic because in DYRL it seemed the Nousjadeul-Ger was more common then the battlepods there, who only had a minute or two of combined screentime.
  25. I always liked it when the VF Master Files added these types of stories in; Macross always had a focus on the worlds they take place in so it's nice for all its mechanical faults, the fans have an understanding regarding the franchise. Wonder if there's any interesting narratives from the VF-11 book. Dakurd was a nice, surprisingly optimistic story despite the ending and being from the Anti-UN which didn't go well for Nora and Ivanov. It is kinda melancholic in hindsight that many things from the Zero era probably didn't live long past SDF, like the old guard is passing for the new generation to bloom. Think the few descendants of characters there we do know of are Sheryl from Sara Nome of course, and Makina being the great-grandaughter of Raizou, the chief engineer on the CVN-99 Asuka II.
