Wotafa’s review of the Zeta Gundam:

Looking at more reviews I wished they would have found a way to cover the hinge in the chest. Looks way too much like a toy.

I wonder if we will get a Zeta Plus (red and blue creamsicle) from that mold.

I would also like to add that the Metal Build Zeta looks like a Transformer; what are you doing Bandai? :p

Most likely the Zeta Amuro colorway. That's just a shield swap... maybe slightly different wing binder shape?

I would be down for Zplus C1 though kinda doubt it since the Ka Signature line has those so filled out.

  2. I think basically boils down to Yammie for almost perfect proportions but not finish in fighter mode, Bandai for a good but not great Battroid due to the backpack, but much better posability. Also depends if you want a toy to handle or a display piece.

That being said, I'm a big fan of the Yammie 1/48 VF-1 Stealth and it's colors way more than any other color variant...so I'd at least give that a look. Probably something about the color that hides the cheaper plastics finish? But it looks awesome in fighter.

  3. Yeah folks like to pile on. I have two, and personally like the figure. Sure it's got its issues, but it's finally got a good battroid mode. I absolutely hate the Yamato version and the comically skinny legs, plasticity finish etc...Maybe I'm just used to MB and GFFMC type finishes? Glossy plastic just feels too toy-like for me. But each to their own.

Come on guys let's cut Bandai some slack already. Don't you remember the SV-51 ankle debacle? Where Arcadia said having the wrong ankles installed was just a "quality variance" and told everyone outside Japan to piss off?

Bandai is a pretty small company and couldn't possibly handle the cost of replacing all those broken head lasers.

Yeah man, just think about the exorbitant shipping costs to send out these replacement lasers, and global warming! /s

I too prefer Bandai's YF-19 specifically because of the no-gap chest in battroid (and the shield-integrated cover and no extra bits for the back of the thighs).

What's most puzzling to me is that the Yamato version was there for them to copy what works and that this was designed almost at the same time as the HG version. Did the design team for the DX suffer some kind of temporary blindness or something?

They got the legs right, though.

Since they teased the project in 2019, it's been 5 years so I wouldn't be surprised if the project had been suspended several times internally, and had a switch of design team members or at least significant turnover. There's too many design inconsistencies and engineering approaches that just feel like there were many inherited decisions from previous designs that they didn't bother to revisit.

I felt like I overpaid for the Metal Build Kampfer at P-Bandai (I did), but now that the money is in the rear-view mirror I'm just excited to get my hands on it next month.

That's how I generally feel with P Bandai, it ends up being more expensive, but it's guaranteed. For most items you can probably import from Mandarake for cheaper, which I'm starting to do with some things that aren't absolutely must have.

Probably pretty tough to beat, never heard of the place though. There may be some sales coming up soon though, but I kinda doubt the prices will get lower than that

They are legit and been around for a while, but the way they keep prices low I think is because they ship surface/sea to US warehouse first...hence the ship date of this in October 2024, usually 2-3 months later than other shops that ship by air.

That's why I asked about Gundam items as a sanity check. Do we see the same pattern or are Macross items more costly to buy from US shops? Right now I think many of us have a gut feeling that the Macross prices are much higher than they should be, and it's a hard feeling to shake.

They're equally inflated for Gundam items on the official P-Bandai US Portal, for example a Metal Build that sells for 27k yen MSRP ($185 at today's exchange rates) is often 270 USD+shipping+tax which ends up like 315 USD when all is said and done, not to mention the 2-3 month shipping delay. They are shipped by boat and distributed from the West Coast by former Bluefin.

So price-wise it often ends up cheaper and faster waiting for see secondary market options even with shipping like DHL. That being said, for some items it is much easier to secure a PO on PBUS than the JP sites, so there's the tradeoff... It is more guaranteed.

I stand corrected about the MB GN Arms , looks like its going to be an options set.

I wonder who over at bandai had the common sense to make this decision

    https://p-bandai.com/us/item/N2698829001001

Probably the manufacturing lead time for a full GN Arms set is too lengthy....and the profit margins on options sets are much better?

It's almost half the price of a full set for maybe 25% of the parts. Not so much Bandai grew a conscience.

You’re giving the greedy sleezebags at Bandai too much credit. This is going to be a full release , then they will re release the other GN Arms with a slight color change and then maybe they will just sell the conversion parts by themselves

I'd typically agree with you, but I do remember a Japanese press release teasing the Type D as option parts and not a full release. I guess we'll see.
